- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57Is that $6,000 USD?
“So when I donate my money to Pirate Bay, it’s because I also want to be able to download music and movies for myself.”
Wow. Say that in America and you're likely to join the terrorist watch list! - bryant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Here's what they're buying:
Database server: HP DL145 G2, 4 gig RAM, 2 x Optron DualCore 2.2 GHz
Search server: HP DL145 G2, 4 gig RAM, 1 x Optron DualCore 2.2 GHz - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22It's 50 000 sek, that's around 6200 USD.
20% of the money he won. - SBelyea, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17It would be even nicer if your post had been in English. Please spellcheck.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19"*note stupid internet users placement of the dollar sign"
Hey jackass, in different parts of the world (such as Sweden), the money sign (euros, pounds, pesos, bolivares, yen, yuan, etc.) is often placed AFTER the monetary amount. Read a book before flaming you retard; both are acceptable. - znutz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15http://thepiratebay.org/blog.php?id=21
- Googled, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Oh this is going to piss the AA's off! ha
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Oh, yea. I love this soooo much. And what is really great is that right now I know that the MPAA and RIAA are having an apoplectic fit. This will probably result in another nasty legal threat letter getting sent to THB management, and it will end up on their page of theats, with their responses, here:
http://thepiratebay.org/legal.php
These are kind of funny to read, nice to see folks giving the bird to the RIAA etc. - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9a very clean torrent portal is http://torrents.to ,
try searching and a bar shows up on the top directing you to alternative results. it definitely gets the job done - xNaquada, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10yay! p2p!
especially like it because its a news story and the stupid **AA's can read it. - SirVanderhoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I use Mininova.org a lot
also, Torrenttyphoon.com is pretty good, it's a meta search. Still in beta though, so a bit glitchy.
isohunt.com is pretty solid
anyone else have good ones? - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Nice. Searches on Piratebay are a little shaky sometimes, and frankly PB is about the only torrent site out there worth a damn.
I hope Swedish laws remain the same, so that PB can continue to ***** on the MPAA and others. - ralphmalph, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Sweet - tack själv Petter!
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hopefully this money goes to helping their tracker stay up more often.
- freebirdpat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6More worthy cause? Maybe to the person donating the cash thinks that giving the money to the pirate bay is the most worthy cause he cares about?
Oh sure donating cash to help the homeless and the disabled is pretty noble, but maybe its not as worthy as a cause to the man that donates cash to a service that he thinks is worthwhile.
I mean why spend money on the space program or professionial sports when the money spent there could be spent on worthy causes.
Heck you could even donate your computer samdu to an auction and it could give the money to a cause you find worthy.
I think also European Countries typically are quite socialist, so the regular joes don't have to take care of the homeless, thats the job of the government to make sure the homeless get what they need. - jaggyg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4um... that's swedish for thank you. what's with the haters i wonder. the mysteries of those fickle digg members.
- ouvriere, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7shazeubaa: ThePirateBay is totally legal in Sweden, and US law does not apply in Sweden, Swedish law applies there, thank god.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Hopefuly they will get rid of those dreadful ads.
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Man, that's putting it mildly. Searching on TPB sucks ass. I'm glad that they are fixing it. And I'm glad this guy had the gaul to publicly support P2P.
- samfrench, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I like the pirate bay because I feel safe how they are in Sweeden and all. I like isohunt because they have a great search, and I like mininova because overall I just like the site.
- gODfall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Very generous man i'd say..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Nice. Piratebay is the *****
- kweee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If I were Petter, I would top it all off by deducting the donation from my yearly taxes.
- BrainsVolpe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Very cool search engine, dracula7. I noticed that Empornium.us (A site I've used since Nov '04) was only in 2nd place, and have checked out Adultsins.net, the #1.
My penis thanks you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3another one is demonoid.com
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, I like http://www.torrentspy.com , the search results always seem most relevant, and I like that you can leave comments if the file doesn't work, or sucks... or you can get help with open some of the triple-packed files people upload (lets put a .rar, inside a .zip and pack it all into an Alcohol-only format... nice).
I never go to any site directly tho', I have all of them listed inside my uTorrent program and search from there... it's a pretty sweet program! - zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Most cool. Congrats Pirate Bay. They could use the cash.
Can't wait to see the performance improvement. - Otakoner, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Score 92,718 for Torrenting! Piratebay rules!
- modian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3http://ts.kurtubba.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's only pirating if you don't own the original. Unfortunately the *AA don't see it that way
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've come to notice that the searches work just fine if you just hammer that search button a couple of times. Never had any problems in the long run.
But the Search Engine add-on for Firefox makes it a whole lot easier :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Because originals get damaged or simply too much trouble to use. For example, I own Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne retail boxes, I paid full price for them. But I do not use these disks at all when I play them. I downloaded the game from bittorrent and just emulate it, so I don't have to keep a game cd in my DVD drive. The only thing I use from the retail box is the cd-key. I did this to almost all my games.
- DrPlacebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0generous dude, nice.
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@dracula7:
Thanks for the link, a very clean site indeed! - rauz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@SirVanderhoot,
torrentspy.com is still one of the best sites if you need to find everything there is...
tvtorrents.com for, yeah...tv, demonoid is pretty good and so's snarf-it.org
But still, I have nothing to complain about The Piratebay - except for all the pron and the ***** begging for seeds in the comments. We Swedes have to support our own :) - Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1isohunt is a good one.... but not if they get sued... :(
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1mmmmm tastes like candy
- Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2As long as a CD costs $20 - $25 and the artists get $0.5 - $1 of that, I'm going to pirate my music. The record companies need to get with the program.
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1some people live in countries where it is legal to do so
and some "non"profit ***** organization can ***** off - luke--, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That is so cool!
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think they should save it to cover their asses in a law suit.
- cam2009, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0piratebay isn't the best way to search for torrents, but it is the best tracker out there. i don't use their search function, so this won't help me. but i do see them a lot when i use other sites that search multiple trackers. if they can improve those results, too, that'd be great
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Yea I was wondering what "Petter Won" meant on the side of their homepage
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0mayhaps, but who is to say that TPB wont donate their old servers to a school or some such?
its a worthy cause, and important that someone is willing to stand up and say, "hey... i support what these "pirate" guys are doing". i cant say that i fully support or denounce either entity, but in this time when the MPAA and RIAA are running ads on tv and before movies, its nice to see that someone has finally stood up in public and say something supporting the other side. now if this could only happen in the US.
imagine two candidates running for president. one side has millions of dollars and has the biggest mudslinging campaign known to mankind aimed directly at the underdog. the underdog has been painted as a 'terrorist' in the media's eyes. imagine how hard it would be to have anyone come out and publicly defend the underdog. in the land of democrazy we should always be able to have some form of public discourse and compromise [ internet message boards, obviously dont count] - Dwebtron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1is this why they were down before, because they were upgrading / adding 'petter won' to everything?
- spacenettnet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1that is freaking awesome, peter needs to come here and present to congress his pro file sharing ideas, then maybe they will make it illegal to form groups like the riaa. I hate those bitches, congrats to pirates bay, you guys deserve it :-) Keep up the good work
- shazeubaa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Its the piracy that drives these prices up. Look at man.
- dragulaaeop, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3amen brother
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Not to rain on anyone's parade or anything, but am I the only one that thinks that a $6000 donation could have found a more worthy cause? Heck, I find it difficult to justify donating to TWiT for the same reason. Let's see... food/clothes for the homeless or faster/better search results for warez...
