Piratebay doesn't watermark other people's work and try to pass it off as their own while giving no credit to the original creator, all the while making money off of it. That is why eBaum is a piece of *****. - Electrox3d, on 10/12/2007, -6/+58I do believe Huzzah's are in order... Huzzah!
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48They just had the biggest antipiracy campaign in the world go after - they recovered fully within about a week.. I think they're here to stay.

- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39He's prolly right. Content distribution will CONTINUE to evolve and BT won't always be the most efficient means to distribute content. When that happens and the number of BT users drops, TPB should switch over to the new medium.

* "Bite my glorious golden ass!" (said by a golden Bender during "The Farnsworth Parabox")
* "Bite my red hot glowing ass!" (said by Bender during "When Aliens Attack" just before he realises his rear end is on fire)
* "The modern world can bite my splintery wooden ass!" (said by a wooden Bender during "Obsoletely Fabulous")
* "Bite my colossal metal ass!" (said by a giant Bender during "Anthology of Interest I")
* "Lick my frozen metal ass!" (said by Bender during "The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz")
* "Bite my shiny metal-OH NOOOOO!!" (said by Bender when he realizes his crotch plate, and thus, his ass, was taken by the Robot Devil) - Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33w00t, Futurama!
Bender Bending Rodriguez rocks my thirty century - rolotomasi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Ahh, so this is how the P2P wars of 2008-2021 started. Most interesting.
/hops back into time machine - benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Bender and the pirate bay would create an unstoppable force.
- spectre, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Re-SPECT, baby. That's how it's done!
That said, while I'm glad they're back home, I won't be logging on again. I mean seriously, the fed's are watching them like flies on ***** and I'd prefer not to have my IP show up on a federal watch list. Again. - shuffle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23[counter-strike]Roger that.[/counter-strike]
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25That's it!
I'm going to start my own pirate website... with hookers, and blackjack!
In fact, forget the piracy!
Eh... forget the whole thing. - brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Personally I believe the artist should be compensated. If I could donate to the artist DIRECTLY I would. Probably for even more than the cost of the CD.
Since I can't do that I would rather go to their concerts, buy their merch etc since they get more money from that.
My view is this: Most artists recognize that CDs are just a form of advertising, and some even encourage downloading. The people that are losing money from it are the people that don't deserve the money to begin with.
But just download from iTunes. It's 99 cents. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -33/+53I know this risks getting me marked down, but I'm the kind of guy who believes in challenging entrenched belief systems.
The Digg position appears to be:
* Piracy--aka, taking copyrighted material with the artists' permission--is great in every way. ***** paying artists for their work. Anyone trying to protect their intellectual property rights by shutting down piracy services is evil.
* Eric Bauman of Ebaumsworld takes copyrighted material without the artists' permission, and this is...wrong! He should be shut down via the DMCA, and up with artist rights! How dare someone take an artist's work without his or her permission and without paying them a dime.
Does anyone else see the total self-serving contradiction here? It really illustrates the fact that a lot of pro-piracy viewpoints are formed solely on the basis that the person wants to get ***** for free without having to pay for it. That's simple freeloading. At least think through your belief systems before you adopt one. - invader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18i bet you felt really cool typing that.. are you going to bring up Tool, now?

// I got the joke :P - twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15ThePirateBay will close down sooner or later, but The Pirate Party is here to stay. Odds are that once Bittorrent is dead, they will have another site up for the new medium
- wolver1ne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12HA! I don't care if you thumb up or down.. but MPAA and US Gov are sucking knobs! So much fuss and yet they are back to where they began. Get a clue, anit-piracy organisations, you can't stop piracy! As long there's stuff to pirate, it will get pirated.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8They can't stop porn either.

- invader, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11it's not a matter of where the IP is owned... it's the wording of their law.

like most digg users, i thought nobody would be dumb enough to fall for one of those... well.. we were all wrong.. - jo42, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Nice to see someone doing a great big "Fork You!" to The Man.

Non-authoritative answer:

dev$ - Dymphna, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8All that needs to be said is w00t and I laugh at the MPAA.
Whether or not I ever used Piratebay, I laugh when the MPAA gets it's just rewards - poipoipoi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6wow, Ayn Rand. You must be at least 13.
- UnknownCzar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The way people look at piracy is that when downloading some popular song or a popular movie, you're "stealing" from some rich millionaires and the corporation they works for. Hence, "stealing" one song from them doesn't really harm them and their million dollar fortunes.
On the other hand, the artists who make the stuff the ebuam "steals" are not millionaires, they are normal folks that the pirates can view not as symbols but as people. "Stealing" from people is wrong in almost any ones eyes. "Stealing" from a symbol, like a millionaire or a corporation, doesn't seem that bad to most people. - Protonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just to be clear, I wasn't implying anyone do a DOS attack. (Who on this forum would anyway?)
Just meant to be a quick way to see 'hey.mpaa.and.apb.bite.my.shiny.metal.ass.thepiratebay.org' on your own PC.
merreborn's method is even better. - KANSUO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Is it just me or has the selection of torrents at thepiratebay gone down sharply since they got shut down? If you browse torrents there's far fewer pages of torrents and I get considerably less results when I search.
- aldenhg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm not sure that a pithy (and nerdy) insult is just rewards for screwing people out of their money with restrictive licensing schemes on crappy mechendise. Nor is it just rewards for tricking people in to constantly re-buying all the content they thought they owned when a new format comes out.
Anal electrical shock sounds more fitting to me. - Bakagamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You fail to note that this is in fact, a personal case for ebaumsworld.com's authors of "original content" who don't see a dime from their flash movie they make while in the *AA's case, it's a bunch of lawyers who sue the ***** out of everything that has the possibility of 'infringing copyright'.
- Gordin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41/(a really small number) = a really large number, so I don't agree with you. ;-)
- Virak, on 10/12/2007, -21/+25Err, it doesn't say apple anywhere.
- KJay, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Arrrrrrr you reaaady? I can't hearrrrrr you! Oh, who lives in Sweden Above the law! The pirate bay! Who thieves and plunders all day? The pirate bay! His torrents and links be something you wish! So hop on the ship and download like a fish!
- vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4give it some time...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I, for one, love pirate bay and anything to do with BT... I find it 'unique' that pirate bay has so many fans.. not surprising really, seeing as how good they are... anyways, peace to the pirate bay crew....

I found some free berries growing by the side of the trail.
Furthermore, I have never in my life met someone who meets the definition of being a "creator". They would have to live off the land from a handbuilt hut without using any modern products. Recording artists are certainly "parasites" since they require the talent of recording and mastering engineers, marketing and promotion people, managers, etc etc.
I get the sense that you're accusing pirates of being parasites, but it's kind of empty. - Tsuroerusu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ millixaw
"They can't stop porn either."
Exactly, truth be told: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5430343841227974645 - lj535i, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5m00kie, I think you are overlooking some valid points. As someone who owns over 400 music cds and 50+ movies on dvd I think I've done my part...
The MPAA and RIAA are using questionable tactics to protect the revenue streams of companies employing outdated business models. This includes manipulating the legislative process to serve their own ends.
Why did it take these industries so many years to adapt to new technology and customer preferences? Why should I have had to pay $18.99 or even $12.99 for disc with only two good songs on it? Why do these industries feel that it is better to sue customers and leverage law enforcement into protecting their outdated business models when they could adapt and give potential customers adequate incentive to purchase music legally?
Because these industries haven't been doing the right thing all along, I feel that they deserve all the trouble that groups like Pirate Bay can give them. They shouldn't escape the consequences of their bad decisions, and I for one cheer when groups like PB give em the finger. -
