- craigosbourne, on 10/12/2007, -14/+180Pirate Party for Congress and Whitehouse !!
- plamoni, on 10/12/2007, -26/+106No, thank you. I already feel like the White House is robbing me as it is :-)
- tzmguitarist, on 10/12/2007, -8/+65Pirates are generally feared; not the clowns that Johnny Depp and the like portray. The idea behind the party is quite noble and has a just cause. It's sad that the words "Pirate Party" will never be taken seriously.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -18/+66"Pirates are generally feared"
I don't think anyone fears 110lb Swedes living their parents' basement. - EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -4/+50How about "The Technologist Party"? I can already think of a broader scope of party platform topics than just copyright:
* patent reform
* net neutrality
* "utilizing" or "de-privitizing" the internet and telco infrastructure (taxes paid for it, so why pay twice?)
* True and fair competition for telco providers (want more than one cable company in town?)
* FOSS donation tax credit
* Stronger frivolous patent/copyright/trademark lawsuit controls
* "hacker and tinkerer" legal provisions (when is it okay to mod your playstation?)
* Revising/Repealling the DMCA
* Repealing the Patriot Act (technologists, hackers and tinkerers are *not* terrorists)
/and/ * copyright reform
I'm sure there are other controversial topics that could be given a lot more focus under a party with a decent name and focus. - tonage, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47It is the Pirate Party. I would say that makes it a parrot.
- nacs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41How long till "The Pirate Party" is labelled a terrorist organization by the Department of Homeland Security?
- randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -9/+42@millixaw
One vote is NOTHING. A persuasive under-age political activist has more power then the vote-capable adult. - gDubz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27With a name like Pirate Party, they definately will not be taken seriously by any group with the power to make such changes. I wouldn't waste my vote on a 1-dimentional group like this. It's comparable to the Marijuana party. They'd be better off forming an activist or awareness group.
- wheremyarm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Awesome, but am I the only one wondering what the hell that's supposed to be a silhouette of in the upper-right corner of their site?
- fuckingstudent, on 10/12/2007, -19/+45No doubt it will be shut down under the f*****g patriot Act, wont be able to marry its counterpart in Sweden (same sex), will be invaded because of the suspicion of WMDrm etc etc
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+37 millixaw:: What an arrogant bastard..... Btw... I am 25, and I already emailed them requesting that they go through with it... and asked for membership. I am sick of all the idiots in our government not knowing a thing about the laws they are passing...
OMG you say that people are using the internet to steal things? ok I will shut that down right away!
I spend quite a lot of $$ monthly on entertainment, and damn it... it is my right to use that entertain ment as I see fit... Meaning, I buy a dvd... I can place it on my portable media player.... my computer..... my laptop.... - quine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Damn-it, Jim! I'm a pirate - not a web developer!
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Probably by June 8, 2006.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Comeon folks, you know that in order for it to pass muster in the US, it needs to have a better name...
May I suggest "Patriot Party", "Department of Homeland Freedom Party", or you could always just go with the tried and true "Anti-Terrorism (and freedom) Party". Nobody actually "looks" at the details for anything named this way, they just automatically vote "yes". - YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27It's a parrot.
It could be a NINJA Parrot, tho, seeing how it's all black. - klepto, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28If you want the public to take you seriously then I'd suggest changing the name "Pirate Party" to something more neutral and not automatically biased.
- gwax, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Considering the smaller version in the "Join the Party" section has the filename "parrot_logo_small.jpg", I expect that it's meant to be a parrot.
- gwdigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20will all pirate party candidates wear eye patches?
- wheremyarm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Yeah, found the smaller version, still don't know what it is. Maybe a deformed eagle? Someone do some design for them, they need it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Like "The Pirate / Ninja Coalition"?
- Xanin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18The government puts you on their watchlist for just joining Amnesty International, so who knows what they'll do if you join this....probably call anything they do 'pre-emptive' in case we fund terrorism by downloading music
- wompwomp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Right, but why is all the rum gone?!
- dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Not sure why they linked to a forum instead of the actual site...
- marix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I'm pritty sure the ninja party is gonna kill anyone who signs up for this thing.
or anyone still alive for that matter. - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14In...3...2..
NEWFLASH DATELINE JUNE 7th 2006
Pirate Party US Declared Terrorist Organization
The Pirate Party of the United States has been hereby declared a terrorist organization by the RIAA, the MPAA, AA, the NSA, the CIA, the FBI, FEMA, the ATF, the CDC and the NCAA. Any members should summarily surrender themselves to their local chapter of the Sen. Joe McCarthy Society and prepare for a stern talking to.
Said one representative of the Coalition of the Cranky: "Compared to these guys the Ninjas were a cakewalk." - Mohonri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Just make sure you don't have any pirated music/movies/software in your house. How long before the RIAA/MPAA serves a subpoena for the personal information of every party member, then files a lawsuit against each and every member of the party?
- tnerb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14i love the word art style red/white/blue effect...musta taken all of a minute to do (most of which would have been spent waiting for Word to load.)
also, note the great resize from the original on the 'join the party' page... - plamoni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11It will happen right after they repeal that pesky 1st amendment. You know, the one that allows free association?
- flipzmode, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I agree 100% that the logo isn't that great. I did realize it was a parrot, but it took me quite some time. Hopefully they redo it. :)
- TRexALot, on 10/12/2007, -8/+17@randomvictim
Back when I was 16, I thought democrats were better than republicans too.
Then, Bush stole the election in 2000 and the democrats sat on their asses, trying to play it safe.
Now, I do not support the democrats or the republicans. - auratus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I agree. Education (specifically spelling) should be dealt with too. ;-)
- Laurentvw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Haha, I like this on the website: "Founded: June 6, 2006". Definitely not a coincidence.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Your candidates are going to run on one sole issue which 90% of America doesn't give a ***** about?
Good luck with all of that!!!! :p - Toloran, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I would join (If, for no other reason, then to say I was in it) but for a few quirks in our election system. Mainly, the fact that you can't vote in the primaries (am I even thinking of the right thing?) for any candidate outside your political affiliation (ie, a Republican can't vote for a democrat and vice versa. A independent can't vote for non independents).
Oh, and one more thing:
Yarrr!!!!! - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9i agree..
just as with norml -- the pro marijuana group that uses a weed leaf as an O -- it will never be taken seriously like this. - technique, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9How in the world is Captain Morgan not the leader?
- CatfishJones, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10What's their stance on Quebecan representation on the international stage? Healthcare? Bill C-36? Our involvement in Afghanistan? The role and validity of a Governor General? Age of consent? Whether the Senate should be electoral?
I wouldn't trust a single-minded party with my seat in parliament. We have far more important things to work on. - geekee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12"it will most likely share ideas from the democratic party, ultimately pulling away democratic votes but not getting into office: handing it over to the republicans."
Democrats are heavily funded by Hollywood. Hollywood has no interest in weakening copyright laws. Therefore, Democrats have no interest in weakening copyright laws. - s000t, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9What wonderful web developers these so-called 'pirates' are...White on Black!? This site is a disgrace to pirates everywhere as they couldn't even 'pirate' a half decent platform or website. WTF?
- MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Umm, you may want more issues for your platform if you are really serious about establishing a reputable political party. Nobody in their right mind is going to vote for a party with only a couple issues on their agenda.
- smhill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"We also want a complete ban on DRM technologies"
That is hypocritical, and a violating the rights of the content producers. Though you may not like DRM, your course is not purchase things with DRM. Not force others to do things the way you want. Freedoms go both ways.
This one line shows exactly how ignorant this site/concept is. - randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -24/+30@millixaw
it will most likely share ideas from the democratic party, ultimately pulling away democratic votes but not getting into office: handing it over to the republicans.
=/ I am only 16. - jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9In the absence of a Tecnologist party, I'll join the Pirate Party.
- degree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Pirates do not embrace web 2.0!!!!!
- DougTanner, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Is there a Canadian branch?
- vvaduva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Oh yeah...that will really fly with the public...let's put teenage software pirates in charge of the welfare of millions of people and in charge of the largest military force in the world. Sounds like a great idea!
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Holy Special Interest Batman!!! No one is goin to...Sorry, no one with any political sense, is going to vote for someone in this party. You need to have a well rounded and well balanced sense of society, not just some special interest to ride on to get elected. So what would the average day be for a Pirate Party politician?
8AM Crank Call the RIAA
9AM Crank Call the MPAA
10AM Download the latest Britney Spears Tune from Pirate Bay
10:05AM Notice free porn and download that too
Noon Break for Lunch
1:00p Return to check on 2GB porn download
4:45PM Answer Call from NSA wondering why the Whitehouse incoming traffic bandwidth has spiked.
5:00PM Catch a ride home from mom - dolson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If the only concern is this, then it will fail. Contrary to some opinions, there are more important things than stealing music. Healthcare seems to matter to some people.
- degree, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Before I, even start reading, what you, commented, please learn how, to, use commas,.
Are, you a, student, of, william, shatner? -
