- vedichymn, on 10/12/2007, -8/+58Jesus christ, what next? Can someone just make a pirate bay category so that I never have to see another article about it?
PIRATE BAY CREATOR MAKES SANDWICH! - 500 diggs
PIRATE BAY CREATOR ADDS CHEESE TO SANDWICH - 732 diggs
PIRATE BAY CREATOR PREFERS DIJON TO YELLOW MUSTARD ON SANDWICHES - 989 diggs - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+40GODDAMN, PEOPLE!
MPAA = Trying to shut down PirateBay
RIAA = Trying to shut down AllOfMp3.
Though they are similar, they are NOT the same thing! - RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -8/+37I just love it how the dinosaurs at the RIAA got giddy over shutting these guys down – only to have them come back with a vengeance and rub it in their face!
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Force them to turn into MAFIAA.
BOOM!
No more confusion! - complos, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22For every site like The Pirate Bay that is shut down, there will be 3 more sites like it that will replace them. The RIAA should just admit defeat now before they humiliate themselves any more, although it is pretty entertaning to watch their constant defeats.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21It's the MPAA; The RIAA has nothing to do with ThePirateBay.
- vedichymn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@chicken101
There's been 6 front page stories in the last 7 days with "pirate bay" in the title, and 29 in the last 30 days. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Music And Film Industry Association of America%u2122 (MAFIAA%u2122)
http://mafiaa.org/ - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14You know, Pirate Bay has MP3s too. How do you know they have NO involvement?
Eric Wilson - diafel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16So what? Mininova is at 285 and it didn't need a government shutdown or countless news articles to do it either.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14"There's been 6 front page stories in the last 7 days with "pirate bay" in the title, and 29 in the last 30 days"
Lets make it a 1:1 ratio! - Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16With all the media it's getting, of course.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17do not trust Alexa.
1. Alexa doesnt track Firefox or Opera or Any browser other than IE. So, it doesnt work on OSX or Linux.
2. Digg is a techie website.
3. Since Digg is a techie website, Techies dont usually use IE. Alexa says Digg is 126. Its probably more than just 126 since there wont be many IE users. You also need the Alexa toolbar
Also, they admit to faking the rankings of all Amazon owned websites. Alexa is one of them.
Digg's true ranking is closer to 1 then Alexa says. Its probably below 100 - ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18I'm sure this was mentioned hundreds of places before, but does that matter?
- raingrove, on 10/12/2007, -11/+21erm. didn't kevin mention this in diggnation like 2 weeks ago?
- m0laria, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13plus all that money they save on free movies
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -8/+17*It's the biggest bittorrent tracker
*Bittorrent is popular, you know -- here on the internet
*It got raided
*people hate the RIAA/MPAA
There's your reason. - bamassippi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14The only way to get negative Pirate Bay stories on here is to have them pull a Netscape and copy digg.
I can see it now... "This story has been Pirated 254 times" - pjh3000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Don't forget the Film Actors Guild!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"I don't care about these guys one way or the other, but, if this were some dork posting his blog-spam everyone would be on him like a duck on a june bug. Since its Pirate Bay, and everyone here wants everyone else to think they're l337 haxors, they go off ranting and making pirate jokes."
Anyone else hear that? That's the sound of Digg getting owned. If only I could digg up this comment twice. - Jarda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Alexa, once a hated company because of their spyware bar is now used by the same people that used to hate the company to engage in "my penis is bigger than yours" competitions.
How sad... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11This is inevitably going to get dugg down by Pirate afficianados, but ... who cares? It's not even a good tracker. There's nothing there that I can't find on Oink, Demonoid or Z-Cult. Oh, they're making a statement? Nah, they're just playing chicken with content providers and governments. And, to be honest, I don't care who wins. As soon as it goes down, everyone just moves on to the next site.
No digg. - Shinta, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Friends don't let friends download overpriced movies.
- rollergoof, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8im sure there making a killing in advertising revenue..
- tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Look at the traffic history of the pirate bay's rank: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=3m&size=medium&compare_sites=&y=t&url=www.thepiratebay.org#top
Right now -- their rank is slightly worse than it was before the bust. - twiztedambience, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5wow big deal.... mininova sits at around 250.
- CoolDude330, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Interesting that the traffic rank went WAY up during June.
- nayten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they'll never stop, because they keep pulling in money from their ridiculous lawsuits and shutdowns. that's icing on the cake for them, since they're already making enough on their cds and movies.
- ojk007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6@foolfromhell
You sir, Are a FREAKING GENIUS!!!
I love it, coz it true... - championchap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4eeep, people need to calm down.. the MPAA is the one going after the pirate bay.. true
but copyright music is also available, dont be surprised if the RIAA isnt involved somewhere - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hes iGeterix now!
- javierror, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@ hyper
Great comment, A++++ for Oink mention. would digg again. - VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Okay, I thought I was the only one who thought this. Like a sheep, I decided to see what all the fuss was about; since the way it's been getting headlines lately I thought it'd be like the best thing ever.
1) I never found what I wanted, even though it's a simple and rather popular request (DDR soundtracks).
2) Everywhere I browsed, 99% of the torrents were dead or about to die. At first I thought it was because they'd just come back from being shut down, but even looking at the freshly uploaded torrents and 'most popular' torrents, most of those were dead too. :/ - javierror, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10but there's no 'F' in either of those...
- Miniman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hell, Mininova is in the Top 300... No big deal...
- BeyondALL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3TPB is really good because people comment on torrents so that fake downloads don't get a long life - Means I don't have to download wrond/bad stuff :)
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2thank you very much. okj007
- tamzarian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Or do they....
- synthax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't really trust Alexa, few pirates use some obscure toolbar for IE. The traffic to thepiratebay.org is about 50% higher now than before the raid according to the company selling ads there. They have a lot more nodes now then before the raid (about 2 million now).
http://www.google.com/trends?q=pirate+bay%2C+mininova&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all - klang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Mininova.org and PirateBay provide the same service .. It's interesting that they are both in the top 500 ..
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3 AVandelay your an idiot, isohunt isn't a tracker it's a torrent search engine and the majority of torrents on it are tracked by the pirate bay.
- 81v3d07g0d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I don't really like PB that much, the site is kind of user unfriendly. the actions and attitude the people behind the site are awesome and I hope they continue but I wish the site was a little better.
- elpepe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Torrent trackers help manage the actual uploading and downloading of the files. They may also allow you to search and add and comment on torrents. Examples: piratebay, demonoid, tvtorrents.com
Torrent directories allow you to search and add torrents. Examples: mininova, torrentspy
Torrent search engines search multiple web sites for torrents but they do not host them. Examples: isohunt, torrentz, Google - alceria, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Thank you MPAA, thepiratebay is so effing clogged with people now that *I* can't download squat today. Mission accomplished.
- AVandelay, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Agreed. ThePirateBay is a poor tracker. ISOhunt, Demonoid, and Mininova always provide better and more results for me.
- mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I somehow managed to decrypt your message...
Tracker is server that coordinate torrent downloads. It tells your BT client where it can find sources (seeds/peers)
Torrentspy is just search engine (like google) - dh8r, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Because they flaunt authority .... it gives them ... character.
- simonmcc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@foolfromhell :

I'd like to see some stats - I bet >50% of digg.com traffic is IE.....

true - section31, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2who the hell cares...look at mininova.
http://alexa.com/data/details/main?q=mininova.org&url=mininova.org - plausibledenial, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Definition of the word pirate:
a. One who robs at sea or plunders the land from the sea without commission from a sovereign nation.
So, yeah. That's about right, actually. Arr. -
