- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -10/+329Thank you MPAA for the new Logo, and Most likely improved performance and Options...Oh yeah and the few million more people who last week had never heard of the Pbay :)
Everyone Send thier thanks to Mr. Glickman at the MPAA - phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -17/+265Everyone go download 10 movies right now. Just to spite the MPAA.
- phore, on 10/12/2007, -7/+165This whole incident must have given piratebay a ton of publicity. The site is going up and down btw, probably because it is getting flooded with people. Perhaps this just hit the main page on digg?
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -7/+131Email them and tell them "YARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!"
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -7/+107With all the publicity from news, digg, slashdot, mpaa and other sites, I wouldn't the potential pirate population has gone up by at least 10%. All MPAA had to do was keep their mouth shut and they wouldn't have a problem... oh well, not like they haven't dug their own grave before. Maybe they'll learn their lesson?.... nah....
- dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -7/+102"Everyone go download 10 movies right now. Just to spite the MPAA."
dont just download them.. share them! - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -5/+94I've been waiting 48 hours for this.
- en3r0, on 10/12/2007, -5/+87The New title for the site is also, "The Police Bay" haha
- xaviel, on 10/12/2007, -10/+86They wonder why they loose money? Ill tell you why:
Snakes on a Plane (Are you serious?)
The Breakup (Jeniffer is hot, movie isnt)
Poseidon (Titanic minus all the good elements)
Failure To Launch (Failed to stay awake during the movie)
She's The Man (Plz...)
See no evil (A pro wrestler doing movies, sounds like a great idea) - Garda, on 10/12/2007, -5/+69It seems to be comming and going offline. They probably just have a few issues that they need to sort out.
I love the MPAA for being weak and being completely unable to stop the TPB.
Thank you MPAA for all the laughs - dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+74Usually spam is posted with CAPS LOCK TO GET ATTENTION!!!!11!!1
A title with lower letters is more... respectable, I guess. Either way, congrats on being the first to break the news! - Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -4/+57EVERYONE EMAIL THE MPAA!!! tel them THANK YOU!
- LawnGnome, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54No publicity is bad publicity.
- sk33t, on 10/12/2007, -6/+53I can get to the homepage, but for Recent torrents I get a datbase error.
Edit- It worked. The first torrent after being down: http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3491989
And according to dnsstuff, they're in the Netherlands now. - mrpackrat42, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50Now, just a minute here. Let's look at that statement "hiding behind lack of adequate local law". The locality in question happens to be the country of Sweden, a sovereign nation. The people of Sweden seemed to find the "local" law quite adequate when their elected representatives passed it. That the MPAA doesn't like it is irrelevant. They can lobby like anyone else if they want it changed. The fact is, The Pirate Bay isn't hiding behind anything. They've come right out and said that they are exercising their rights under the current law to the fullest extent possible. The MPAA can yell and scream and (allegedly) lie to the police all they want, but under the law as it stands The Pirate Bay hasn't done anything wrong.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -8/+53If the site link doesnt work, try: http://85.17.40.35/
- HeyFergy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+47Oh yes, all of us that pirate are just a bunch of lazy free-loaders who don't work. Riiiiight. By my estimate...something like 90% of the people I know who download music/movies have one or more jobs and are in college (or high school). The reason I have done it in the past is simple...a movie that I will only watch once is worth very little to me. Definitely not $20, or even $8 to see it in the theater. It's not even worth $4 to rent. Why? Becuase I don't know if I will like it. But if I DO end up liking it I will go and buy it. The same with music...there is no way i'm going to mail order a cd for $15 or buy one in the store for $18 or whatever the hell they go for these days unless I hear the whole thing first. Especially if it's a lesser known band. However, if I download the album first I will more than likely A. purchase it, B. go to see the band live and C. purchase merch from the band (which is far more valuable to them than buying a cd off of amazon or from sam goody or best buy.
Saying that these people want to hurt all the POOR POOR artists/musicians/workers at these companies is also *****. We are not STEALING CD'S. We are downloading files. You can NOT say that every album downloaded = $15 lost. That is *****. Most of these people would never have purchased the album to begin with AND they are more likely to support these bands in other ways such as seeing them live or buying merch which as I said before is MORE IMPORTANT to these bands than selling cds. And as for hurting the artists/actors....oh no...poor Tom Cruise and Creed and Korn....I hope their million dollar homes, half million dollar cars, and $10,000 suits arent affected by my downloading...I would feel really, really, poorly that these over-payed, worshipped, people have to buy a lexus instead of a bentley next year.
I could go on but i'm done.
/end rant - RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41They need to post an update to their Legal Threats section that talks about the MPAA...
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37Yea, and on the third day it rose again, rolled back the rock and went unto it's disciples and said "Take this, all of you, and download from it, for this is the torrent of my server and it shall be given up for you."
And the disciples took the torrent and lo, there were bits for all.
Sacreligious AND illegal. I think I get a double word score for that one :) - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39PirateBay IRC Channel!

- shikaga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17mmm, I don't think that digg would break a terrabit server.
- cryptoknight, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19since when is YOUR morality issues my concern? as far as lawful that depends on the country you are in... as far as your opinion that every pirate spoiled and has a gimmie gimmie attitude well that's just crazy!! i use the pirate bay to find torrents for open source software.... your just pissed that you have bought into the mindset of "i must pay for everything" when a lot of people are taking a stand and saying no i will not pay for garbage software or music. personally i use allofmp3.com and purchase all my music but the pirate bay provides a valuable service. so please get off your high horse and go think about your morality

I mean how long have I got before whatever the ***** sucked the life out of you and made you so damn bitter gets around to me? Can you give me a rough estimate? There's a 14 day waiting period on firearms here and I want to make sure that if I ever start to get urges to start spouting off the ***** you've been wafting around that I'll already have a pistol ready to end the suffering of others post haste. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18..And the pirates prevail!
If anybody remembered what I said on my digg submission of the MPAA's press release detailing the sinking of piratebay.. "i'd love to see this bite them in the ass if the tracker comes back online"
ah, wishes do come true. MPAA won that battle, but we will win the War! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23***** THE RIAA MPAA
- wabbiteh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17That's probably not the digging -- just the server acting a little funky as things get going again.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15On the MPAA's contact page they have a survey for your favorite type of movie. I put "Pirate Movies."
- bolero421, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13#1- Every time a copyrighted work is downloaded != a lost sale.
#2- If #1 were not true, everyone who has ever used a library in the history of man kind has been guilty of copyright infringement.
#3- Think of torrent aggregators (and indeed, the internet itself) as massive, online, international libraries. They benefit humanity through the free dissemination of works of culture.
File sharing is library 2.0. In the age of the internet one can not expect the concept of the library to remain tied to its brick and mortar roots. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Wahhhhhhhhhh it's illegal.............WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH. *rolleyes* I've downloaded 0 movies in my lifetime but that doesn't stop me from renting them at the video store and copying them :p Besides, who wants to wait for a torrent to finish?
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15@
Actually, Ferg, he's not an extra. Extras don't get credited. He is more than likely a "day player" brought on for a day or two at SAG's (the Screen Actors Guild's) bottom-end day rate. And yes, he and every actor on a SAG franchised film gets residuals, no matter how small the role. Their residuals are dependent entirely on how much they were paid to start. Piracy affects every credited actor, not just the stars.
I'm glad to know you purchase a lot of movies. I wish more people practiced that habit. Unfortunately, I believe most who pirate do not. As you can read in the comments here, many don't even see copyright infringement as wrong. If they don't see it as wrong, why would they even consider paying?
As for bonchbonch (who I suspect is an artist of some sort), I agree with him or her, though I don't necessarily like the tone he uses. I understand it though. I've gotten frustrated here myself. People digg down people like him and me for having an unpopular opinion -- no matter its truth -- and it's easy to get frustrated and feel like you have to scream when people are willfully ignoring and insulting you. I know you might feel like bonchbonch is insulting, but imagine if you were someone like me, who is a "surviving" actor, and comes here only to find how blatantly people could not care less as to whether or not you're getting paid for your work -- and even seem to rejoice in the fact that they are depriving people of profits. You might feel insulted too.
The problem lies in that most people who take this attitude think they are just screwing a bunch of multi-billion dollar corporations, and that's simply not the case. As for me, I'm not even of middle-class income -- but I am a working actor.
I appreciate your empathy. Thanks for the response and your honesty. - azzwipe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Yay, today is my birthday and I just woke up! - best birthday present I could wish for..
