- HaloZero, on 12/25/2007, -4/+131I think the more distressing news inside is that almost 50% of public torrents are hosted by the PirateBay. If PirateBay gets taken down, big trouble.
- chris9902, on 12/25/2007, -3/+89Their PR company should take all the credit. Without the MPAA's and RIAA's join efforts to promote the pirate bay in a global advertisement campaign surly it would be dead by now.
- fsblueangelpiot, on 12/25/2007, -12/+97http://thepiratebay.org/
505 internal server error.
Yikes! - inactive, on 12/25/2007, -5/+84Demonoid :(
- digitalpencil, on 12/26/2007, -1/+55Five Linux servers running OpenTracker - $12,295,00
Global Icon tee from the Bay Shop - $38,75
Advertising & Promotion from the MPAA/RIAA, doubling the Bay's traffic... priceless
There are somethings people have to buy, for everything else there's The Pirate Bay!
Merry Christmas RIAA... looks like you're in for one ***** New Year! ;) - omghax, on 12/25/2007, -4/+55Viva La Pirate Bay!
P.S. Merry Christmas, :) - inactive, on 12/25/2007, -2/+52Sharing is caring!
- silentphoenix, on 12/25/2007, -2/+50i like how all of the MPAA's and RIAA's efforts to take down these kind of things only gets even more people to do it
- defectDS, on 12/25/2007, -7/+53And they couldn't have done it without the fall of Oink and Demonoid...
- xqb4dpx, on 12/25/2007, -4/+47he means big trouble for the peer to peer community, private ratios or not. stop being so stuck up. you know you like those public torrents.
- spyd3rweb, on 12/26/2007, -3/+39Give the gift of upload bandwidth to your fellow peers this holiday season.
- Mejogid, on 12/25/2007, -2/+31I heard that the **AA are merely the propaganda branch of the pirate bay party.
- inertic, on 12/25/2007, -2/+22yaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
- kazamx, on 12/26/2007, -2/+20I honestly don't care if TPB are making a some money on all the hard work they are doing.
What I would love to see is TPB set up their own music label and start getting some money to the artists. - Daggity, on 12/26/2007, -1/+19If I could only pirate hardware, I would be content as well. :(
- Herolint, on 12/26/2007, -1/+17Personally, I bought quite a few season passes on iTunes to NBC/Universal shows. Once they decided to be greedy and not offer that easy method of buying their junk, I went to the next best thing. Thanks NBC/Universal, The Pirate Bay isn't as convenient as iTunes was, but it is much cheaper.
- BlueFalcon7, on 12/26/2007, -8/+24Kind of a strange story, as weird as it sounds, its true. This year, I got over 2,500 songs from my friends who are pirates. Because of all the pirated stuff I have from all my friends, I got everything I wanted. So this year for Christmas, I did not get anything. Instead, I'm donating what I'm getting. Thanks to the pirate bay, some charity will be happy with my sum of Christmas money while I rock out to Van Halen.
My one hope, is that whoever gets my money does not get sued by the RIAA or MPAA.
Merry Christmas. - sealbeater, on 12/26/2007, -3/+17Personally, I'm very happy that they are getting paid for providing such a service.
- JoeVet, on 12/26/2007, -1/+14Wow! An Riaa fanboy. I didn't think there were any of those left after the RIAA started suing kids and grandmas. As long as the RIAA is attacking the fans with mafia style extortionate attacks they are not the good guys.
- jcaino, on 12/26/2007, -0/+12wow that's a lotta people to sue.
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -2/+13....Im gonna go stand over there... I think you forgot your flamesuit....
- alexkriegsmann, on 12/26/2007, -0/+11too bad i am trying to get 3:10 to yuma right now and instead am getting 505 to yuma.
- xqb4dpx, on 12/25/2007, -3/+12does anyone know if the Pirate bay's new protocol will be released in 2008?
- lazyfisherman, on 12/26/2007, -3/+12So you are taking the money you would have spent on poor, starving artists like Van Halen and giving it to charity?
- ryuujinusa, on 12/26/2007, -0/+8I miss Demonoid's immaculate organization and comments. TPB's comments are sometimes immature and stupid.
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -3/+11No but you can steal it the old fashioned way, from a store.
- elnerdo, on 12/26/2007, -3/+10You CAN pirate hardware. Usually it's called 'shoplifting' though.
- CaviMike, on 12/26/2007, -2/+8"They told us that they will simply move to another country if they are outlawed in Sweden, without downtime!"
They already moved most of their servers out of Sweden so even if they came and confiscated their equipment(again) it won't mean a thing. - n0c0ntr0l, on 12/26/2007, -0/+6Music will exist RIAA or no RIAA. Just look at Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and all the bands that the pirate bay support. They are doing pretty well without the RIAA.
- CaviMike, on 12/26/2007, -5/+11They have jobs, TPB isn't it.
- Saulidus, on 12/26/2007, -5/+11kill yourself
- DividedYouFall, on 12/26/2007, -1/+7no, it is definately piratebay.org....
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -1/+6actually, if it were possible to make a duplicate copy of some hardware for free, i don't think that would be considered stealing.
maybe thats why they don't have money in Star Trek... - fkr3, on 12/26/2007, -5/+10Wow, you're a real Robin Hood for taking everything you wanted and giving much less to an irrelevant third party.
- ConeOfSilence, on 12/26/2007, -0/+5how much do they pay you to post such comments?
- spookyttws, on 12/26/2007, -2/+6Yeah, I tried searching for the Walking Dead comic 42-on and it gives no results for Walking or Dead andI get that same error every few refreshes. Perhaps they're upgrading hardware.
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -2/+6"The arts will always exist whether artists are being payed or not"
Open source software. Dug for making sense. - samssf, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4I think you missed the point. First, Red Box isn't widespread, so don't act like that's a wonderful solution for everyone. Second, tons of people do use Red Box / Netflix / Blockbuster (really?). I do agree that people who download movies via file sharing should get a Netflix subscription, solely because Netflix is a great service and is worth the cost. However, pretty much every other media delivery system is *****. Cost of cable is too high for the content, which is low quality and 25% commercials. iTunes Plus is great, but hardly any songs are available via iTunes Plus. Regular iTunes music is restricted by DRM, which makes no sense since you can burn it to a CD and do as you please with it, as with any other store-bought CD. NBC, Discovery, etc offer content online, but it cannot be viewed on a Mac, because you have to view from Internet Explorer, since the video is encrypted.
Encryption encryption encryption. These companies care too much about preventing their content from being shared. People will always find ways to share content if they really want to. All it does is burden the innocent and provide more of a challenge (desire) for the guilty.
Windows has copyright protection. I've bypassed protection for every single installation of Windows I've ever had, and benefited 100% from it. But when I switched to Mac, I purchased OSX, even though I could have pirated that with a simple download. And the install didn't even ask me for a serial number or proof of existing license. I bought it because I respect Apple, because OSX is high quality, and because it's only $129 (one version only). On the other hand, Windows is $400 for the Ultimate Edition, has tons of issues, and is overall crappy software. That's one example of how having a good image and providing a high-quality product or service at a fair price can succeed. - inactive, on 12/26/2007, -7/+11The arts will always exist whether artists are being payed or not. If artisans stop getting payed it will just mean we will be able to experience better quality products simply becuase the few people left will be making music and movies for the very love of doing so, not for monetary gain. Just think, music existed before the RIAA, why wouldnt it exist afterwards? All the RIAA and the recording companies associated with it did for music is turn it into a bloated industry that contains far too many jobs and uses far too many resources on something that has existed since the beginning of human life.
- samssf, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4***** the RI..... oh wait, thanks guys for letting me know about this awesome site where I can download free movies and music without the hastle of all that DRM mumble jumble!
- Biks, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4I know, this kills me. I FINALLY found someone would could've given me a referral to Oink...and it goes down. [insert Charlton Hestons final 'Plant Of The Apes' line here]
- michaelz92, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3Torrentspy sucked.
- phybere, on 12/26/2007, -2/+5I think it's been clear for some time now that it's copyright infringement, not theft.
- HornyFox, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3There are also a lot of good things, you know...
- hobonetweaver, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3Good thinking, you should tell them your idea.
- krusader3z, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3I have peerguardian installed and consistently pull 400+ from the bay
- hobonetweaver, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3You can't just replicate a bag of replicator gel.
...cause that stuff runs out. - inactive, on 12/26/2007, -0/+2Not if people do it properly = using multiple trackers and enabled DHT.
- samssf, on 12/26/2007, -0/+2RIAA can suck me off. Whenever I can download the content I want DRM free, and play it on whatever ***** system I want (mac, windows, linux) for less than my cable bill now (and still watch shows that actually teach me something, like most of the discovery / science channel content) I will be a very happy man. Until then, The Pirate Bay will continue to supplement my TV viewing. ***** the RIAA.
- samssf, on 12/26/2007, -0/+2They're NOT protecting the artists... that's the point. The RIAA is causing people to desire to use file sharing as a means to obtain content... more often.
People who are poor and have no money will always "steal" content... whether it's by recording songs from the radio, borrowing a friend's CD, etc. The point is, file sharing provides a very simple means of obtaining media and is DRM free. The RIAA is trying to make it so that the risk of taking content illegally from peers is greater than the benefit of obtaining it in that fashion. This will never work. People are pissed off, because pretty much everyone on Digg is smarter than the folks in the RIAA, and realize that if there was a way to easily obtain DRM free music at a fair price, people would do that. Just look at iTunes Plus and Amazon. It works. The problem is not enough labels / artists are embracing this concept yet... and the RIAA just keeps on trying and trying and trying to punish people (for something most people consider reasonable), rather than working with the people and trying to innovate and come up with a better system. -
