- bl4nk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+90I use uTorrent, and I have to say that it is by far the best client I have used to date.
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+52uTorrent rocks.
-700kB download
-header encryption
-tiny memory footprint
I don't know why anybody would use a different client. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32
Don't forget uTorrent's RSS functions. There's nothing like using TVRSS.net to automatically grab the Colbert Report as soon as a new one becomes available.
-----
Btw, my post has three components of what diggers like:
1. Getting illegal content.
2. Colbert Report.
3. Lazyness / automation. - Kido1986, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19uTorrent doesnt use NEAR as much ram (Azureus one day was using 400mb!). Because everything is small, stuff tends to load quicker. Also, the UI, esp the options, are much more intuitive. uTorrent just runs faster (not download speed, but responsiveness) and takes so much less ram.

because it doesn't have a linux version. I use Azureus, it works great, a slightly larger memory footprint doesn't bother me since I use it on a computer that is a dedicated internet browsing box & file server. Azureus is quick and has some features I like very much. Like the ability to copy a link to a torrent and have Azureus open the torrent file from that link instead of having to download it first then open it from a local directory. Granted doesn't take much longer, but it is a great feature.
And to anyone who suggests using wine with uTorrent, how big is the memory footprint now? Until uTorrent is native to linux I'm sticking with Azureus. - xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Is it just me, or does it seem like trying to fleece over a group of people who usually know what they are doing is a bad idea? ...especially T.P.B.
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9but it isn't open source. or cross platform (wine dosen't count!)
- bentrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Totally agree, every program should have build-in-Tetris.
- bentrop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Your comment = ignorant *****
Bittyrant doesn't have a "better D/L Algorythm", it has a different uploading algorythm. And one that, would everybody use it, would harm the bittorrent community. Even the developer of this "technical study" admits that.
Bittyrant:
no significant advantages for the user + harmful for the bittorrent community = rouge client
Luckily a lot of trackers already block it which should prevent it from spreading much further. - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It stole my bike, too.
- BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Do you mean to say that it is a blush client or that it is a *rogue* client?
- Muncher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7A virus?! What the heck are you talking about?
- Pimpalicious316, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8i must admit, i am pretty ignorant of uTorrent. I currently use Azureus and am happy with that. What are the advantages of uTorrent of Azureus?
- nav2k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree with bl4nk uTorrent is the best one out there, especially with built in Tetris! i mean how can you beat that.. by the way to get tetris go to Help > about and then press t
- bowels, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I like the Bitroll's malware better than Torrent101's malware. If you have to run malware, it should at least be good.
- madmathmatician, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Go to hell, malicious bittorrent clients! goes to show you that you should stick with the "big boys" in torrenting.
@philodox
Really? i use Azureus, i will definitely have to try uTorrent! - austindkelly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4uTorrent is great for its small footprint, but I have been using Azerus for a long time now, mostly for its plug-ins and features, but it running on an old imac that doesnt do ***** else but download torrents. But if you have a decent computer with decent amount of ram you should not have problems. Even when i ran it on my PC desktop it only ever got to about 16MB of use.
- TheTap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I use. and prefer uTorrent, however I have had trouble getting the webUI to work so I just use it as a stand alone client
- HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You do realize soliciting clicks on your ads is a bannable offense from AdSense right? I just took a screenshot of your comment and reported you to Google. I hope everybody else on here does the same.
- craterburnsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was always die hard Azureus user... but then my brother was using utorrent, and when i was staying with him for a week i wanted to grab some episodes of Heroes i missed, and wow, i was really impressed. Now I'm utorrent for life.
- sardon1c, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6uTorrent was acquired by BitTorrent, Inc., which is in league with the MPAA. Something to consider.
- v1p3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Pimpalicious316: uTorrent has almost all the features of Az whilst using a fraction of the resources.
(Clicked wrong reply link) - unidentified, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"What are the advantages of uTorrent of Azureus?"
Azureus is small, fast, and has a crap load of features. It's a great client, even open source, but it has to load the Java Runtime Enviorment for you to use it (a huge 50mb bloated file that can sometimes become unstable). uTorrent is a standalone client, you don't even have to install anything, you can just run the .exe which is why it's easy to recommend to friends ("You don't even have to install anything"), and it has every feature you need. It's the Jackie Chan of torrent clients. Azureus is more like.. Steven Segal.... powerful, but too big and not as well polished. - Soulhuntre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would it surprise you that a group of people dedicated to the theft of others works might have an ethical blindspot?
- godlovesme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thank you
Bram Cohen, - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I used to use BitTornado, BitComet, and now uTorrent. It's by far the best.
- klepto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1arctic torrent - 550 kb

Im downloading 6 torrents and its using 2.5 megs of ram - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The the ***** doesn't block ad's anyway?
- thedreaming1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I spotted torrent101 on torrentspy. I downloaded it and I was going to install it, but then I started reading their EULA...I hit cancel and deleted the file.
I've used utorrent and azureus and both of them work very well, I really don't see the need to use a new torrent client. - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Azureus small?
I'm sorry but Az is what gives Java a bad name. - BrokenBeta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What ads?
Oh, adblock, right, right. :-D - ryogahibiki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Torrent101 is advertised in big red letters on every single download page at Torrentspy.
- bentrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@BGFeltenink
Of course that should have been rogue client. *blush*
@DCstewieG
The whole point is, that while it says it is "more fair" and I guess even attempts to be so, it is NOT! Read a little bit about game theorie, about tit-for-tat and you will notice that BitTyrants approach is indeed harmful for the whole network, downloads start slower and take longer to finish, even if you DO upload a lot. All clients already have a simple tit-for-tat system against abuse in use, you do not need BitTyrants unnecessary radical approach. And of course all non-BitTyrant clients are discriminated against by BitTyrant which pretty much makes it a leecher for its own good. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The fact that they would promote malware clients in the first place suprises me. I figured thought that TPB would be against such clients as they are a big promoter of BitTorrent and it's erm, positive and legal uses.
Hrmm, actually I bet promoting malicious clients is a great way to keep the n00b leechers out of our precious network... - rubbersoul1967, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just switched to uTorrent. I'm really starting to get into low memory programs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1TorrentSpy also has links to those malicious torrent "applications." I wonder what they will do about it.
- Necoras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Azureus is good if you're using multiple platforms and want to remain consistent. Run it on windows, linux and mac osx and have your very own swarm :)
- unidentified, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Azureus doesn't use more than 30MB of RAM itself, and sometimes less (as low as 15-20), which isn't bad, but it's fairly bloated especially compared to utorrent. However when you add JRE it's freakin' huge... lol. There is a good review on the CPU and RAM usage of Azureus here...
http://javaadami.blogspot.com/2006/05/small-analysis-of-azureus-project.html - msvalente24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what makes uTorrent even more usefull is its ability to run portably, which is a bonus since i kinda run my computing life off a mobile HDD!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1uTorrent all the way!
- chadian22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I use azereus, i run all 3 platforms (mac laptop, windows desktop and linux desktop) and i've just know it inside out as i jump from computer to computer.
- godlovesme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1top ten list please?
- pero69, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2*contemplates going to the site, clicking on the same ads over and over again until your adsense account is banned for obvious false clickthroughs*
- DCstewieG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Personally I don't think BitTyrant would effect the community as a whole, just individual users. If everyone was using it and you are able to upload a lot, it's much better for you. If you can't upload a lot, you're screwed. It's actually MORE fair than normal clients which is the problem for people with capped uploads (most everyone). It would raise ratios of people who disconnect as soon as they have their file. Those are the people hurting the community.
That said, I use uTorrent which is plenty fast. - PleaseJustDie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@Kido1986
wth were you doing that it was using 400 megs? On my Linux box I never see azureus using more than 60 megs, usually 40 is as high as it gets. - arlene1985, on 01/10/2009, -0/+0The only bittirent clients that are safe are original BT and uTorrent. The latter even doesn't need installation and consists of one single .EXE file to run. But BT client is one thing and transferred files - another. P2P networks are full of malware themselves.
http://hubpages.com/hub/free-malware-removal - Tapewormz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Visited the Torrent101 website. You can tell it's malware just by looking at the page. It reads like an advertisement in a supermarket tabloid. They offer no support, and say "NO SPYWARE" lol! Someone should dos attack them off the web.
