- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+90NOTHING IS CLEAR. Reason? The submitter has linked to some lame blog instead of the official news announcement or the site itself.
http://thepiratebay.org/blog/56 is where this story should link to. I'm burying it as spam. - omenmedia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+78Piracy 2.0! YARRRRR
- ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47AJAX is the perfect way to keep the poop deck clean...
- mojoel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Any respectable pirate should use Ajax while swabbin' ye deck.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33shhh... what's the first rule of usenet again?
- mraustin1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23"A lot of other torrent sites spider our site to find new stuff. Contact us instead and we'll figure out a better way to give you the content. We're gonna do a lot of fixing on the bay so many scripts that are dependent on our design will break - and Yes, it's OK to ask us, we're just glad you like our content."
It isn't pirate bay's problem that Torrentflux hasn't contacted them. Get mad at Torrentflux. ;-) - Doomhammer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Are you telling me that the entire point of Digg is _NOT_ to shamelessly promote your own blog, despite the fact that nobody cares about your blog ?! :-D
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23wrong ajax...
http://www.j0k3r.net/img/prog/ajax/index-ajax.gif - edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Look, I hate blogspam as much as the next guy, but slyk.com is basically the central hub for p2p/usenet/etcetera news. It most definitely is notable.

Not for long it won't. You had to know someone here on digg was going to do this right? - slushpuppie, on 10/12/2007, -9/+25 yep, nothing with a wikipedia article is lame, eh?
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15The piratebay has horrible search. Or that was just my experience with it.
Type in something like classical chinese and you get "fiLmS DiVx StuDiol33t" or something. - samelevel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Why would you not post the link to the Pirate Bay blog?
Slyck.com has nothing to do with this story.
http://thepiratebay.org/blog - theseaweedking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Or, you know, we can just talk about this story right here. You know, where it's easy and convenient to do so.
- brandonhoth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11classical chinese? You must be a lot of fun at parties.
- behn1220, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Yeah, um...USENET is just some stupid service based on the ancient NNTP. Yeah. It can't possibly be a good source for pirated movies, music, books, software, games, or anything of the sort. Its got to be REALLY slow, too, unlike those speedy bittorrent trackers that are so great and consistent!!! Going to USENET to download things is like anonymously breaking into your Grandpa's creepy, old and musty house, grabbing a screener for "Pan's Labyrinth" and leaving without a single trace that you were there. Why would anyone wanna do that? Move along RIAA/MPAA. USENET is dead and nothing to be concerned about. ;)
- SamKellett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The whole point of AJAX is that it ISN'T "flashy crap"!
- JJR2527, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That is ridiculous, I logged in just to block you.
- Doomhammer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Doesn't Google'ing for:
site:www.thepiratebay.org
work?
That's what I use to search pretty much all sites I visit, because 99% of the time their search functionality simply doesn't compare to Google's. - mraustin1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6So true. They have furthered the movement but it isn't because of their search engine... Their search engine is totally balls.
- r3neGaDe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Read their comment on http://thepiratebay.org/blog
They came out and said that the new Ajax system would break a lot of other sites that depend on the current system's setup. They even threw in the comment that all such sites would need to do is ask TPB for help and they would gladly lend a hand (how awesome).
Maybe you should just go to TBP and search there instead...
[EDIT] - .... wow, got beat twice - go figure. - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They're taking it over by force.
- MikeEFresh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Slyck is the hub of pirating things.
- muffinmanpoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Lol, poop deck.
Tee hee hee. - Tippis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why use XML to transfer data?
Because your (XHTML) page already consists of XML and you're already viewing it through an XML parser. If you want to change its structure by adding more data on demand, it's hellalot simpler to get that data as XML and just slap it in where it's needed, rather than having to build a completely new XML structure out of some other random data structure and *then* slap it in there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Pirate Bay's main page shows a picture of Sealand, calling themselves "The Pirates of Sealand." I thought they weren't buying it?
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3rtfa - it's not their job to supply other sites with content...Torrentflux spiders TPB.
"A lot of other torrent sites spider our site to find new stuff. Contact us instead and we'll figure out a better way to give you the content. edit: mraustin1337 beat me to it :) - pyrexia, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Ajax always makes everything cleaner...
- crysys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pirate!
- Nicolay77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I haven't found a reason to use XML, I use AHAH, that is, to send plain HTML instead of XML. You can send javascript there and it works as expected.
Much faster in the browser, and easier to maintain too.
However, I have not made any "fancy" graphical effects, just a fast and responsive "AJAX" application. - xister, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's right behn1220. Why, when I search usenet, I never find any mp3s or movies or software or prOn... Just a lot of unintelligible ascii art..

- Cablito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, nobody cares about piratebay.... right.
- code_of_life, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Found a bug, search for "ericsson", then sort by seeds...It will show you the search results for "eriksson"
- chaimpot0k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1isohunt kicks tpb's ass
- Just, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OMG it is so quick the website
when u organize by most leechers or seeders
i am impressed
wow - burndive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Electric fields.
- everling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Because your (XHTML) page already consists of XML and you're already viewing it through an XML parser."
Except that you're forgetting that IE7 and IE6 doesn't have an XHTML parser and parses your XHTML with its HTML parser. - SwissCamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess they needed to clean their bathroom up quick. Those threats from various agencies obviously have been taking their toll on those guys.
- tiqtiq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not a bug, It's a feature. In Sweden the sir name Ericsson is about as common as Eriksson.
- Azap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Ajax is awesome
In myth he was a big warrior, now he helps us download things with ease,
The only thing it needs now are previews of the files, another cool site with Ajax is Myquire.com, its like myspace went out and learned how to make a website - HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Well, in Soviet Russia... Oh, never mind.
- davidcg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1spam, the site isn't ajax yet, so who cares, why post....
- tomakun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"Air Force insiders are beginning to think seriously about potential military uses -- for example, antimatter bombs small enough to hold in one's hand"
So.. I guess this would only work if you were one of the lucky few who had a hand not made of matter. Seriously though, how do you go about storing something which will annihilate itself with matter upon contact? - rauz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Just stfu. For the rest of us who don't want to pay for less stuff at greater speeds, torrents are a viable alternative.
- joeTaco, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5"yep, nothing with a wikipedia article is lame, eh?"
Well, slyck.com isn't. - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3Great! My favorite Linux distributions will get even easier to find.
Later guys! I'm off to the store to buy the commercial software products and media that I've found to be useful and worthy by "demoing" them from all these great torrents. - Doomhammer, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1*sigh*, why does everyone like ajax so much? It's really not that cool. When you think about it, XML is actually a very inefficient language for transferring data (client-server applications can get the same job done with way less bandwidth and computing power, usually).
Granted, there have been some cool implementations of Javascript, but 99% of the time it's just a bunch of flashy crap that doesn't actually add any real functionality.
Plus, it kind of limits who can view your site. If your site completely depends on Javascript, then users who decide to turn Javascript off in their browser (either because of security risks, the fact that it's annoying, or whatever), then they're screwed. At the very least sites should have a Javascript-free alternative, or (most likely a better option) just code your site using something else.
Anyway, even though Javascript in general usually sucks, I haven't seen The Pirate Bay's new stuff, so we'll see if it's any good later, I suppose. -
