- spiceasy, on 11/29/2007, -8/+218t'would be interesting if there was a "buy" button next to the albums= the legitimacy of piracy.
- TiMMY8765, on 11/29/2007, -2/+164Web 2.0?
time to remove some vowels
Th Prt By - asdfrewq, on 11/29/2007, -2/+138Why would fake torrents be well seeded?
- shark72, on 11/29/2007, -2/+62Agreed. We all say that piracy actually helps us find new music to purchase; we download first as a "try before you buy."
If TPB did this, it would show their support for this idea. But, sadly, I think that'll happen at the same time that TPB announces a "we'll donate 5% of our profits to the artists" policy... ie. the day after there's ice skating on the river Styx. - Voldon, on 11/29/2007, -31/+86and yet the pirate bay is still full of fake, badly seeded torrents.
- mrgulabull, on 11/29/2007, -1/+31At first I wasn't sure that these changes really counted as web 2.0. But then I took a look for myself and saw it wasn't working. I believe them now.
- aigulf, on 11/29/2007, -0/+27Well, there *is* a 'buy album' link in the last.fm widget. If you click play it shows up with the current track.
- raleighDan, on 11/29/2007, -6/+33Am I the only one that gets annoyed by the phrase "Web 2.0"? Believe it or not there were constant improvements to the web previously.
- MikeyMoose, on 01/30/2009, -8/+35Why not link to the site? Link spam? Why not title the post - "A story about the Pirate Bay going Web 2.0"
- Jugalator, on 11/29/2007, -1/+24Yeah, you'd better start an own tracker. I'm sure it would rock more.
- InuX, on 11/29/2007, -2/+22Is it me or did the search engine just stop working?
- LowROI, on 11/29/2007, -0/+18Not in the word "Bay". But if you mean the word "by", then the "y" is a vowel.
- g2g079, on 11/29/2007, -5/+22Now that's snazzy! example: http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3400273/Queen_-_Greate ... press 'show detailed artist info'
- themacx, on 11/29/2007, -1/+16okay so now pirate bay is down??.. hmm nice 2.0...think 1.0 was better ;-)
- skidooer, on 11/29/2007, -4/+17Web 2.0 isn't an improvement. It's a different way of using the web. Web 1.0 documents (HTML) are formatted so that humans can consume the information. Web 2.0 documents (XML, JSON, YAML, etc.) are formatted so that computers can consume the information. Where it gets confusing is that tools like AJAX use Web 2.0 services to get the data and insert it into "Web 1.0" documents.
Yes, the name is pretty silly. But it does make sense to have some kind of distinction. Web 2.0 is a fundamentally different way of using the web compared to what most of us were doing in the "Web 1.0" days. - heathuff23, on 11/29/2007, -0/+13I hate PirateBay...I was spoiled by the search capabilites of demonoid :(
- jijacob, on 11/29/2007, -5/+18So they basically just copied the Oink+ greasemonkey script. Either way, it is a useful feature.
- FiP0, on 11/29/2007, -1/+13And since a lot of online shops have "referral" programs, the pirate bay would make a lot of money :)
- Azimuth1, on 11/30/2007, -0/+11Or just download ***** I don't already own because it's free and I don't have to get off my arse.
- Daniel15, on 11/30/2007, -0/+11Or "Piratr" perhaps?
And don't forget the "BETA" tag! - DJCult, on 11/29/2007, -1/+12Sometimes.
- zeromancer, on 11/29/2007, -1/+12and video killed the radio star. what's your point.
- TheZorch, on 11/29/2007, -6/+16Arrrr! Them be clever pirates!
- feshmania, on 11/29/2007, -4/+13i digg yarrrrr mashups.
- stoanhart, on 11/29/2007, -0/+8Since they are integrating with other sites, they could just link in with Amazons DRM free mp3's
- jo0zi, on 11/29/2007, -5/+13digg killed The Pirate Bay
- simpleid, on 11/29/2007, -2/+9isohunt and mininova are better, so is btjunkie, at least i can find what i'm looking for there. i've never needed the pirate bay. it's just an icon.
and if private is so leet, invite me then, thought so, stfu. - limpits, on 11/29/2007, -0/+7I don't understand why people are digging you down. I was trying to find an example and it wasn't the easiest thing in the world. A lot of the music torrents don't have it because their algorithm can't figure out who the artist is. Thank you for posting that link.
- Kyan, on 11/29/2007, -3/+10Web 2.0 is simply a term for people who are usually business minded yet have mindsets that pre-date the web altogether.
They simply ignored the web in the 1990s, because they failed to really understand its potential. Their impressions are web circa 1994. They were not impressed and then basically ignored it.
Meanwhile, young, unadulterated technophiles have improved the web step-by-step all these years and brought it to where it is now (and will take it where it is going tomorrow).
Somewhere along the line, these young folks, the googler's, facebooks, amazoners, etc. started to make a pile of dough.
Then the old timers sat up, took notice and said "whoa, look at what's on the internet MOOLAH! It sure is a diff'rent bird from what it was before - must be web 2.0!, yeah! (Now we can really push DRM)".
AND THAT'S THE WHOLE TRUTH. ;-) - IIIKrazyKiDDIII, on 11/29/2007, -3/+9You should have said "badge" or "starburst"
- jetsetter883, on 11/29/2007, -2/+8couldn't agree more. i use TPB as an absolute last resort. their search is terrible and the torrents are way too scattered and ***** overall.
- storstygg, on 11/29/2007, -0/+6I agree. I try before I buy... or I just DL ***** I already own since it's faster than ripping and organizing.
- aliguana, on 11/29/2007, -0/+6the record industry did it by itself. As Clint & co prophesised, years ago... Pop Will Eat Itself
(thats £20 you owe me lads) - Jugalator, on 11/29/2007, -0/+6Jeez, they just have a waffle break!
- jololli, on 11/29/2007, -0/+5Whew, uploaded in 1970, an oldie but a goody.
- j4200, on 11/29/2007, -2/+7User moderation is great! Also another way of spotting a fake torrent is if the album or movie isn't out yet, the torrent probably isn't either.
- inactive, on 11/29/2007, -2/+7It is quite easy to determine what is a fake torrent and what is the real item. Check comments and scan everything with kaspersky you should be fine.
If you are having trouble after following this advice then stop trying to download PORN ! - Khac, on 11/29/2007, -1/+6Long live the pirate bay!
- ssjtoma, on 11/29/2007, -0/+5love the comments on the site......
- aliguana, on 11/29/2007, -0/+4nor do they want to:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/11/29/pirate_bay ... - spyd3rweb, on 11/29/2007, -1/+5and pirate bay killed the record industry.
- jon3k, on 11/29/2007, -0/+4Did you both to read why it was down?
- TheChunt, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4Oh no my friend. Web2.0 is soooo much more.
- ***** names
- Gradient backgrounds
- Rounded corners
- Huge fonts
Its a revolution baby! - inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4Agreed! Their search sucks so badly.
- MattyLite, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3I'm not sure why you were dugg down so much; I thought your joke was funny :/
- jon3k, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3I was searching earlier and getting no results also. I was actually wondering if they were filtering results from ARIN address space so I used a web proxy out of Australia and got the same thing.
It's actually down for maintenance now, so I wonder if something wasn't up earlier. - Indieana, on 11/29/2007, -2/+5The same for Mininova (also The Pirate Bay) and some other sites as an extension for Firefox: http://oinkplus.blogspot.com
- Chirp08, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3a bash quote got it perfect: "You provide the content. They keep the profit"
- rotundo, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3Hey, I download _only_ porn, and I have none of these "fake torrent" problems. Don't give porn downloading a bad name, bro!
