- twiztidsinz, on 08/10/2008, -5/+91Pirate Bay takes one step forward.
Italy takes two steps back. - mimigins, on 08/10/2008, -1/+80I read that link as something completely different.
- s0merand0mdude, on 08/10/2008, -4/+80In Italy and disappointed? Check out http://labaia.org/ which is a temporary mirror for you.
- sfacets, on 08/10/2008, -1/+60Any surprise, knowing that the prime minister also owns the major media outlets of the country?

- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -1/+50MAMMA MIA!
- mrfizzle, on 08/10/2008, -3/+41Honestly, why do they even bother? There's no way they can completely cut off access to a website. If anything, they're making Italians even more encouraged to use the pirate bay.
- jrbrewin, on 08/09/2008, -0/+38indeed. the greatfirewall of italy? what next?
- cambo125, on 08/10/2008, -2/+34Good luck blocking the 1000's of web proxies out there Italy.
- doshindude, on 08/10/2008, -1/+26cs_italy FTW.
- h0ser, on 08/10/2008, -2/+27dang, now I have MC Hammer stuck in my head. Thanks!
- taseedorf, on 08/10/2008, -4/+26while there IS AN EXCUSE to pirate, there is NO EXCUSE for censorship.
- HappyScrappy, on 08/10/2008, -2/+23Of course. Berlusconi owns 75% of the TV media in the country, and he's a crook. He doesn't like challenges to his and his cronies' criminal supremacy.
- user12345x, on 08/10/2008, -2/+22I'd heard Italy was on a slippery slope back to fascism. Looks like it's going along pretty quickly.
- nathanww, on 08/10/2008, -5/+25Because obviously Bittorrent is NEVER used for anything legal
- zerocooler, on 08/10/2008, -4/+23This fight will never end. Go Pirate Bay.
- angryfirelord, on 08/10/2008, -1/+18A repressive government can't operate truly under secrecy if there's a freely floating internet around. So these governments use the excuse of copyright infringement and other BS to shut the site down. Fortunately, it seems the internet is always one step ahead of these people.
Spread freedom! Long live The Pirate Bay! - Paulish, on 08/10/2008, -1/+17The article said the big ISPs blocked TPB. Maybe a list of ISPs that don't block TPB should be complied, see what happens when everyone starts using competing ISPs
- Hockey13, on 08/10/2008, -0/+15It's a bit unusual to receive news about Italian domestic policies in the United States, so I understand that most Americans wouldn't be aware of what's happening there. Essentially, Berlusconi has returned to power, and he is, for the most part, GW Bush's distant political cousin. Just recently the government deployed the army in the streets for "security." Security against what? Your guess is as good as mine, but here's an article in English:
http://observers.france24.com/en/content/20080806- ...
The Italian government is much, much more heavy-handed on domestic policy issues than even the US government. There isn't a very clearly-defined barrier between the national, provincial, and local governments that (theoretically) exist in the US. This gives the national government much more power to do ***** like this.
Suffice it to say, I often laugh when non-Italians talk about how wonderful it is to live in Italy and "la dolce vita" when they've never experienced the huge government bureaucracies that suffocate their economy and make it nearly impossible to go a year without a recession.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601068&si ...
Italians are, according to a poll done at the end of last year, the least happy in Europe:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe ...
La dolce vita, indeed. - MavRevMatt, on 08/10/2008, -1/+15Yeah. Those Linux iso's are obviously SO illegal.
- JesusPickle, on 08/10/2008, -3/+16arggghhh
- disrupter, on 08/10/2008, -3/+16uh oh spagetios
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -5/+18Yet the mafia has full freedom to do pretty much anything in Italy.
- Sakumi, on 08/10/2008, -2/+15Nice to know that they just presented a hurdle that takes 5 seconds to bypass.
Anyone who seriously visits the site can figure it out I am sure :) - angryfirelord, on 08/10/2008, -1/+13First of all, PB does not host movies, software, or anything else. They only host .torrent files, which does not contain any "copyrighted infringement". The peers are the ones who contain the suspected material.
Next, (and this is more of a political opinion) the government has no business in regulating the internet. ISPs have no business in doing that as well. I suppose if I check a CD out at my local library, I'm committing copyright infringement as well because "I might have lost a sale for the record company." If blocking PB catches on, what other information is going to be regulated? Will I have to go through a government certified source to get my information? I like have to have my internet open and unregulated, thank you very much. - Definition, on 08/10/2008, -0/+11When you have a media tycoon controlling the country, well, you know what goes on from there.
- thirteenthcor, on 08/10/2008, -1/+11Can't touch this! Da daaanana. da na, da na
- borsaid, on 08/10/2008, -1/+10Competing ISPs? I wonder what that's like. . .
- TheGuruStud, on 08/10/2008, -2/+11What kind of argument is that? Tons of info. is spread via p2p, not just pirated DVDs. I love the irrelevant attack on people that smoke weed. So, how's that drug war going? Uselessly spending billions, killing innocent people, throwing millions in jail for possession of a harmless drug, etc. Yeah, damn those hippies with their weed and "internets" that have free speech.
- nick2, on 08/10/2008, -2/+11Lets hope this doesn't create a chain reaction and other countries start blocking TPB.
- MasterChief4134, on 08/10/2008, -1/+10here i go again
- ludditte, on 08/10/2008, -0/+9as if there were not other torrent sites, you close one down, people discover 2 new ones.
Italia, check out demonoid... - insurgente, on 08/10/2008, -6/+14Ah, ***** Berlusconi and his gang of neo-liberal thugs.
- winmywii, on 08/10/2008, -0/+8Everybody knows it's the boot.
- TheGuruStud, on 08/10/2008, -1/+9Canada is already USA's bitch. Have you not noticed your new copyright laws? Not to mention that your ISPs absolutely love to kill P2P connections.
- bitterman316, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7Only 1.26 billion people.
- newbyx86, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7It's only a matter of time until some anti-piracy group, be it a government or the **AA, loses it, kills anakata, and finds a loophole in the law to get away with it, or even better, gets pardoned...
- Skrezium, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7Thanks, mate. I'm *really* disappointed about this *****' *****.
In più l'hanno fatto quando tutti stanno al mare, a veder le chiappe chiare, così che non ci sia molta risonanza mediatica. Assurdo, veramente! - nathanww, on 08/10/2008, -3/+10To provide cultural materials to people who can't afford them? To keep greedy corporations from making megabucks on something that could be dirt cheap?
- protodon, on 08/10/2008, -3/+9Cretini! *shakes fist*
- agentbob, on 08/10/2008, -0/+6I would rather say Italy takes one step back while TPB takes two forward.
- kotn2012, on 08/10/2008, -1/+7My my!
- Adamande, on 08/10/2008, -0/+6War on Terror is going on with the world, which means everyone is the enemy and every measure can be taken by government to fight the enemy (i.e. the people). Considering Italy's rather lengthy love affair with fascism, I'm not very surprised at the totalitarian approach there. There are several other nations heading down the same path that worry me a lot more. Sweden and France for instance.
- iatebabies, on 08/10/2008, -4/+10dude, shut the ***** up.
- JamesMorris, on 08/10/2008, -1/+6Demonoid, remember that Canada?
- brentinkc, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5I'd like to audition for the part of "The man down"
- Travelsonic, on 08/10/2008, -1/+6"It's like the potheads saying they want to smoke marijuana for medical purposes, we are not that stupid."
No we're not, that's why I buried you.
Medical marijuana is a reality, whether you like to believe it or not. -
