- PLUMCRAZY, on 10/12/2007, -3/+91Three reasons this system SUCKS ! ! !
#1 It takes longer to load than it would have taken me to type out a stupid word.
#2 Most times there are only 2 hot women so you have to guess on the third and that takes even longer.
#3 This system requires looking at some very FUGLY women to use. How is that ever a good thing? - The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+90Brilliant idea, but I'm predicting some Digg submitters will have hurt feelings upon finding their picture along with photos of three hot people.
- macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38I like xkcd's take on it:
http://xkcd.com/c233.html
(make sure to read the picture's tooltip) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+47no actualy it is a crap idea, it takes freakin ages to decide which ones are the hot ones and which ones arent, its as if come of these girls vote for themselves somehow, cos there arent usually 3 hot chicks out of 9
- Platysquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39I'll stick with "Spot the Fatty" thank you.
- starfisch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39there are no girls on the internet
- dynamitehacker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36Discriminates against chubby chasers.
- unknamed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35Too subjective.
Depends on how desperate you are. Married? "Damn, they all look good!" = no pass for you.
Dating a model? "They're all a bunch of crack whores." = no pass for you. - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24I tried it where they showed pictures of men instead of women, but they pretty much all looked the same. Now, I don't have any attraction to men, but could a female digger giver her opinion? The contrast of hottness for the women was stark.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24They need to cut out the mid percentile. Third one is always a bit of a guess. Probably no worse a success rate than some of those bloody text ones with their 0s and Os.
I imagine race could also be a problem, but most I got were Caucasian. I mean, an Asian girl with no deformities might be chosen before an above-average Caucasian by some. - epiploce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22All the guys look the same to me. :/
When picking females its always the thin ones despite plump ones possibly having a nicer face. - hannahmar, on 06/11/2009, -0/+21The men were more or less the same, in my female opinion. There were some obvious "nots" (like old guys and such) but other than that I think it was all very similar.
- puffinkiss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19The hotornot men were all a blur of cellulite, belly hair, cowboy hats, and creepy attempts at seductive faces to me :p
- mikewhite314, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Why does it seem that there aren't even three hot people in some of these groups of nine?
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Jeez, I got "Die Bot Die" four times in a row.
The idea is good, but the selection of photos suck. Hot or Not is too heavily gamed to be useful as a source. - aussieNickuss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Well.....I tried it quite a few times, and I got it correct each time. I must be human after all.
- asdfrewq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13This system is extremely flawed and would be easy to beat. Since the images are hotlinked to the hot or not website you could quite easily have your robot find the page with the score for each image which would allow it to easily choose the 'hottest' 3. Even if they stored the images locally (which would add undue strain on any webserver using the system) assuming they keep the "meet me" links, a robot could still get 50% of the scores and eventually get a positive result.
Novel idea, but far from perfect.
EDIT: And on second thought, something tells me this is little more then cheap publicity for hot or not. :) - DarkYang, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18I'm gay, so I switched over to the male check, and a lot of the time there were four or five that looked good enough to be considered "hot", and sometimes no combination of those four would work anyways. That's the problem with a site like this, it is all based on opinion.
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The one I got given had 4.
I ended up not choosing the one that I thought was actually pretty cute because the other 3 were more in line with what everyone else thinks is beautiful.
Believe it or not, not every guy likes slim, grumpy looking, cheerleader types! - DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Does that thing automatically default to "Die Bot Die" every time? It's either that or I suck at spotting cute girls.
Probably the latter. - catdriver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Actually, it's German for:
"the Bot, the" - lagrange, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Lame, not everyone drools over skinny pre-teen white girls.
- hackajar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10But what if I don't think Paris Hilton is hot? (I'd rather hit her with a shovel)
- atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yeah, like spammers can't submit this to digg (or other sites) and have people sort that for them... there's no need for AI when you can use people to do the dirty work.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Bad idea.
Beauty is way too subjective to use. My second try, I picked the three "classic beauties" and it incorrectly identified me as a bot.
If it was three women and six men, then that would work. - columb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Wrong!
Die, bot, die. - BarryMcCawqiner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ya I got "Die Bot Die" too. Either the women on the sample are mostly ugly monsters, or I am robot. Being a robot would explain a lot of the problems I've had in life.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh crap! You know when all the nerds say that a hot girl (typically a celeb or something) is not hot just to sound cool? What are they gonna do now?
- bdub92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sry, only males here
- manageMyRights, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Who would've thought the best computers in 2007 couldn't tell the difference between a cat and a dog.
- Nudar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Well maybe chubby chasers should discriminate between carrot sticks and donuts.
- fareed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There are tons of girls on the internet. Although most of them are in .jpg
- Eicos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Haven't we already read that rudimentary AI systems are able to determine attractive faces on a scale of 1-10 w/in 1.5 rating points? Not a very good idea.
- Cossins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Soooo... I'm gay, what do I do? :-(
- Sprules04, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I could guess correctly the hottest woman every time but when I tried it with the the men I was always identified as a bot.
- drmistermaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6i tried male and i also thought 5 of them were pretty good looking...
are the ones with weird facial expressions supposed to be wrong? - christopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was able to get it right every time out of 5 tries. However, it was mostly by picking what i figured were the types of girls that would be picked by your average hotornot user i.e. skinny, long hair, highlights, pouty face or bikini, etc. - not always what i thought were the best three.
Interesting idea for idea's sake, but certainly not something i could imagine anyone using on their site (at least not any site i would go to). - noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Dugg for the kitten CAPTCHA.
- cykyc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Yes, but some of us males like males. My boyfriend and I tried it three times, but failed. I guess we'll have to start petitioning for same-bot rights now...
- gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hmmm, after looking at the photos, who is supposed to be hot and who is not is not always so clear. I mean, when your picking between a 300 lb. heifer with jowls and facial hair and a slim, chesty cheerleader with a cute face it is easy. Sadly, not all of the pictures are so obvious. A handful that are clearly intended to be not hot, don't look so bad.
Make it easy! You know, like Condoleeza Rice versus, erm... well, anyone. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3AHHAHAHA, i got like 6 girl attempts wrong.. then it gave me a guy one and i got it on the first try :((((((((((((
- databeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3chubby chasers dont do the eating, they do the chasing. cluebie.
- technobabble042, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Agreed. I had to try a whole ton of different combinations to find the correct one. Not a very good option, if you ask me.
- knuckles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The captcha is using the wrong premis, rather than picking amoung a group of similar people/objects it should be centered around "which one of these things doesn't belong here" like on the old Sessame Street. For example:
- 6 guys, 3 girls
- 6 buckets, 3 cups
- 6 cars, 3 trucks
... you get the idea. At least this way the user can identify the uniqueness EVERY time. However, I'm CONVINCED I've seen this as a prototype concept last year. - ArnoldLayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There are both male and female versions.
- ikimashokie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I never liked this captcha, my standards of "hot" are much different than everyone else's.
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I suffer from a severe case of yellow fever, where are the hot asians? All these white girls look the same to me :P
- Phil246, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3problem with this sort of thing is that it is entirely subjective. Some people may find other ones more attractive then the answers are.
- Kniggit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Actually, I was thinking more about how you would defeat such a system.
The concept of human beauty, based on what I've read, is based largely on symmetry and proportion, and in particular the Golden Ratio which is seen in everything from the distance of nose and mouth relative to chin to all sorts of architecture. In theory, one could use a measurement system that could intelligently extract these proportions from the included pictures.
But therein lies the beauty (pardon the pun) of this captcha system - the computational cost of analyzing multiple photographs, aligning faces and bodies, identifying features, calculating and presenting them would be prohibitively expensive relative to the incremental benefit of the automated spam.
I truly think that this is one system that will work against automated sign-ons, spam, and so forth. The only disadvantage is for people whose features and body types are similar to the "undesirable" ones. In such a case, it might make for a better case to request a comparison to someone famous (e.g. which one looks more similar to John Candy or Roseanne Barr). - NeoCortex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'll take the one on the right.
