WTF is an IGeek? Is this some kind of new geek i'm not aware of?
Like some computer geek who has access to the internet? Yeah right. - aliengoods, on 10/12/2007, -6/+475Her website is so bad, at first I thought it was some kind of Nigerian scam.
But then I realized, the Nigerian scammers aren't that ***** in the head. - Mirag3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3481994 called, it wants its website design back.

- Jernej, on 10/12/2007, -7/+215her website loads like crap under firefox.

- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -6/+156Apparently she never heard of "robot.txt"... Thank god she has no case against Archive.org... XD she should have just read how not to be included in a spider site's results, but instead she goes around suing anyone she feels like... XD
Maybe we should introduce her to Jack Thompson?
After looking at her site... DAM what a bitch... - tamoneya, on 10/12/2007, -14/+156IGeek would probably be a geek who only uses apple products maybe
- muag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+140This is also a scientology plot
Scientology has been trying to shut down Archive.org for quite some time. I bet with a little googling it will turn out that this woman is not a fool but part of an orchastrated attempt of nuisance suits against this utility to drain cash from them defending themselves. Before thinking me a conspiracy nut, google "Suzanne Shell" and "scientology". scientology has documented policies of suing people not to win but to create a nuisance and shut them down. The "do not spider" was certainly only put in english and not meta tags just to set the suit up.
And sure enough, I googled Suzanne Shell and Scientology
http://www.freedommag.org/english/vol32I1/page02.htm - Here she is quoted in Scientology's Freedom Magazine
http://www.freedommag.org/english/vol32I1/page03.htm - Here she is quoted again in Scientology's Freedom Magazine
http://www.freedominclearwater.org/iss14/page08.htm - Here is a quote about her "Family Advocacy Center" mentioned again in Scientology's Freedom Magazine
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/paren...ts/message/4428 - Here is an e-mail from a newsgroup she belongs to, where she mentions she "worked with Scientology's CCHR" before
This is the intro to her e-mail
Suzanne Shell posted:
NOTE on following forwarded email -
CCHR is part of the Church of Scientology. They focus on psychiatric abuses.
Unlike many of our grassroots efforts, they are backed by money.
I have worked with various of their offices over the years. I also refer
relevant cases to them because of their expertise in this area.
The cases being sought would include court orders which impose
psychiatric abuses on parents or children who fall under the jurisdiction
of the juvenile court.
Thanks Chronocyder_Spyder from somethingawful for this info - Simplex42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+136Copied from her pdf:
"You wouldn't believe how many people offered the "If you don't want to be on record, just
follow the robots.txt standard" advice.°"
People offered that advice because it works. Looks like she's not after the outcome she claims (To get her site off archive.org), but something else (Sue archive.org!). People aren't stupid or greedy just because they don't know how to fix something, but they are morons the instant they're told how to fix it and refuse to do so, and stupid when they decide it's not their fault, and wish to blame someone else.
Once, I used to leave my wallet in my locked car quite often. Eventually, it was stolen. I figured out pretty quickly that there were actions I could do to prevent that, so now I no longer leave my wallet in the car. I learned from experience. I bore some of the responsibility, so I changed what I did to solve the problem and make sure it didn't happen again.
Thirty seconds in a text editor could have prevented all her archive.org problems - an effort so small that doing anything *but* adding a robots.txt entry means there's an ulterior motive. Whether that's to be seen as an eternal victim, moneychasing, trolling... I'll leave that up to others to decide.
SK. - growlzor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+136racist bitch called all of us iGeeks!
- sergeantmudd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+129Even if she did have robots.txt file, web crawlers are under no legal obligation to abide its requests.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -2/+124Whoever wrote that PDF has problems and certainly is not showing the level of professionalism you would expect from a lawyer.
I feel the need to correct their views on spidering. Perhaps they haven't realised yet that plenty of places cache website content. I've always thought of that as a valuable service but I'm inclined to thing this womans rambling shouldn't be preserved at all. Hopefully she will pull down her site and fade into obscurity. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+116If she uses robots.txt, she will sue crawlers for reading her robots.txt
- sw17ch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+113Risking quoting the pdf:
FACT: Ms. Shell has no objection to 'spidering'. She wants her web site to be included in the search engines.
Okay, how are search engines supposed to be able to index her site if they don't store copies of it to index against. How about my Firefox cache? I'm "archiving" it for viewing purposes. Am I going to get my ass sued because my browser is trying to be efficient (*gasp*)?
IMHO, I think her site doesn't make any profit, and she got this grand huge idea to sue some one with money because she can't make it legitimately. (If she could, she would have hired a better layer, perhaps one who knows more French--search the PDF for the word "booku" and realize it's "beaucoup.")
Oh, here's another funny thing. Another quote from the PDF.
"FACT: Ms. Shell is running a non-profit, too."
Here's the stance from the website:
"The content if this web site is intended to generate income..."
WTF as in Worse Than Failure -> This woman couldn't make a dime with her "non-profit" so she has to sue some one else to make a living. - EuphopiaB, on 10/12/2007, -5/+115FACT: This woman has no balls.

I'm not using my mouth on the internet. - SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+106ROFLMAO! I just called her. I explained that I didn't agree to any of her terms, clicked cancel and the red "x" and my browser had archived her site.
She wasn't very pleased. - squeedgie4me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+102Oh Psh. Why can't Archive.org pay the nominal fee to archive her website..I mean according to her website she accepts Visa, and the price is a steal!
"Permission and limited, non-exclusive license to reproduce this web site, by any method including but not limited to magnetically, digitally, electronically or hard copy, may be purchased for $5,000 (five thousand dollars) per printed hard copy page per copy, in advance of printing. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, check, money order or cash." - rasensio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+101. "This web site is licensed to be viewed on a computer only"
*****, I was about to browse the site with a bread machine. - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+97Rules of the Internet:
1.) If you don't want your content to be mirrored or cached, make a robots.txt file.
2.) If you didn't make the robots.txt soon enough, make sure to make one anyway, then contact the offending mirrorer/cacher and they will promptly remove the content.
3.) Problem solved.
Oh, wait, I forgot to put in the step where you sue people because you're a selfish fiend. - changyang1230, on 10/12/2007, -4/+99Apple should sue her for using the word "iGeek".
- joshjoneswas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+97I can't really be expected to read that webpage can I?
Two thumbs down. - darkip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+95Even after reading that PDF, i still think she's a silly cow
- synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+94Whats with the sudden barrage of mentally disturbed lawyers with a vendetta against nerds? First Jack Thompson tries to take away our video games, now this nutjob is trying to take away our internets.
Begun, this Nerd-Lawyer war has... - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+88From the PDF:
"It won't hurt Google or any other of those valuable search engines out there who are NOT copying."
Uhhh, sorry to burst your bubble, lady, but Google's mirroring your site, too.

- Novion76, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71ouch on webdesign. Not compatible with firefox.

Oh the irony... - tomvendetta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+65We're just a bunch of iGeeks.
- gravis86, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63"her website loads like crap under firefox."
It loads like crap under IE and Safari, too. My brother could design a site better than that, and he's only five.
Edit: Haha, she bought it through GoDaddy... And she uses Earthlink....
Does this woman know anything about the internet? - underthelinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+59NoahHoward,
Seriously. I read the whole thing and the rebuttal on each point is written with the literacy of a ten year old. As per people mentioning the preventative measures she COULD have taken, she just scoffs.
That being said, I understand her problem and her point. But when you search for her website, Internet Archive does not come up. In fact, in order to get to a website in the Internet Archive, you have to go to the Archive.
My point is, if you're going to make this a real argument, please make sure you don't sound infantile when writing rebuttals. And expect the flame from whomever you are attacking, and their supporters. - lozaning, on 10/12/2007, -6/+62have at her
