- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's he gonna do with the money? Make a 1 Billion Dollar Homepage?
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kudo's to Mr. Tew! I wonder if he'll do anything to top this? Hopefully there are more creative ideas in this guy's brain to share with the world.
- zodieman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alex's idea is so simple I'm still beating my head on the table after hearing about this story a couple of days ago!
Can you imagine telling your friends and family down the line you made a millions dollars on the internet with such a simple idea?? No business plan, no VC $$, no marketing... ??
Congrats to him!!! Now it's my turn to think of something so simple everyone else will bang their heads for not thinking of it first. - forgiste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Basically the pages was hosted either on a discount or free in trade for advertising space for his hosting company. If you click on the Free Hosting link, it explains that.
Also, the reason a company would want to buy space on that page is because it's inexpensive, it attracts a worldwide audience, it's a high-traffic site because it's original, and it's going to be up for quite a while.
Can you see the difference between spending around 800 dollars on that site and spending a load of cash for a billboard that only attracts a very small audience? This advertising is really a bargain. - Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm puzzled as to why you guys think the people that bought space are idiots for buying pixels? These guys got a killer deal by posting their ads at a buck a pixel and they are making money. These guys were smart to jump on this. :)
- Gnascher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@naaaaak ... just use the "ok this is lame" feature to undigg.
However, he didn't overcharge anybody for anything. Apparently he charged exactly the right price for the commodity he was selling, since he managed to sell a million units. If anything, he might have undercharged a bit since they sold so quickly. ;)
See .... this is how capitalism works. You sell a 'product' at the price the market will bear. If it doesn't sell, lower your price until it either sells, or becomes unprofitable, then remove it from the market. If it sells exceptionally well, you raise your price until demand beginst to wane. - Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seumas, It's more than a grid of pixels full of spam.. It's a work of art in it's own right. :) This page doesn't need content to draw people, people will just go there just too see it.
- ph3rny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Me and my friend had this idea well before he came out with it.
Shame we didn't think it was a good idea. - dponce80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's The $100,000 banner. Wonder why it didn't come out...
- DyPao23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0un-freaking-believable! we saw the page when it was, what, 3% occupied? Even *alex* didn't think it'd ever completely be filled, but there you go! Amazing. +digg!

I'd call it genius, what an awesome way to make a million dollars. Who knew.
/starts plans for his million dollar shoulderblades - catullus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uhhh Seumas i guess you didn't read the stories about how this site is actually generating real revenue for the advertisers?
- Flare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey, now that this page is sold out; are we going to UNDRESS MARTY now? LOL!
http://www.digg.com/links/Undress_Marty:_See_a_guy_nude_by_removing_pixels_on_his_site. - smokeybranch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Genius, luck or stupid, this guy made a mil this year, what did you make, haters.

- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry my last comment wasn't a question, it was a comment straight out. So please ignore the ?. LOL I wonder if he'll do this again. Think he'll call it the Tew Million Dollar Homepage? LOL
- rolypolyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now today he begins work on trying to get most of the advertisers to pay for their ads.
- dponce80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah.... linking disabled, never mind
- poipoipoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this just pisses me off! I'm hoping it's all just marketing.
has any news source actually checked to see if this guy has earned what he claims? A bank statement, a tax bill, anything? - oyourmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i wonder if i could do this...
- ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When did he start this project? Also, I bet that he used up all the money on his hosting!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Jealousy is a lovely thing.
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Naaaaak, you can. Just go to your preferences and choose "undig".
- shooby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uhm.....it's not completely filled yet. There's still 1000 pixels left.

- kderby2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Genius lies in the simpliest things.
- designshortcuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i came across this site, its a refreshing twist to the billion dollar quest and its hillarious too. think of truman show for a toy cymbal monkey. the my billion dollar homepage.

- karamba_kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish I was a millionaire. Way to go Alex!
- secretivecoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Sorry my last comment wasn't a question, it was a comment straight out. So please ignore the ?. LOL I wonder if he'll do this again. Think he'll call it the Tew Million Dollar Homepage? LOL"
Looks like his sites are set even higher:

"Naaaaak, you can. Just go to your preferences and choose "undig".
I think he means subtract from the digg's, but that is a dumb idea in my opinion. You can't go and subtract petitions. - Jacob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah well you look at this and you look at the number of hits he is getting a day, and it seems to me that that million is gonna be going into the cost of hosting the site, at least a lot of it will. The only problem I see with his plan was to agree to host the ads as long as he had the site with a 5 year garuntee. (at least I'm pretty sure thats what he said it was back when I first saw the site on digg forevor ago) Other than that it was a great idea, stupid but genious in it's own right I mean anyone who criticizes it is just mad that they didn't think of it first.
- JAFFA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Top notch Alex!!
- Gnascher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0-eeep ... please excuse my terrible typing...
- secretivecoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I wish I was a millionaire. Way to go Alex!"
I bet uncle sam is glad he is a millionaire too. - Aves, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm thinking that the bandwidth isn't really going to be that much over the 5 year period. Sure it's high now because it's news but this time next year, and over the next 5 years, nobody is going to care anymore. I doubt he'll get many hits at all.
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks pretty cool if you stand back and take it all in...
Anyway, I'm glad this guy got his million. It goes to show that any crazy idea can make tons of money.
Start thinking! - Gnascher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@jacob
The page is only 552.79 KB ...that's pretty small.
So, let's assume he's using a hosting plan that gives you 50GB/month of transfer. (I can get you this hosting plan for about $60.00/year) ... then it will take somewhere in the neighborhood of 179,907,585 individual page-views to hit his bandwidth cap. (That's nearly 180 MILLION page views in a month)
I think he's safe ... even for this month while the media blitz is on. Next month, the site will ikely fade back into relative obscurity, and he'll probably be able to host it in perpetuity even on the cheapest hosting plan.
No, this fellow's gonna keep most of his million (except for what goeas to ghe gov't in taxers). - ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For those of you saying he hasn't made it yet, you're ***** morons. Sure the board may not be filled with the ads yet, but if you look, the remaining space says they're reserved or not available. The title is that he's sold the remaining pixels, making his goal of $1 million complete.
- undressmarty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I'm with Flare.
http://undressmarty.com/ - jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"he last 48 hours alone, the site has received over 1 million unique visitor" what a lucky bastard i want that
man i have followed that site and i cant believe he sold so many - Naaaaak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Before recently, I had never heard of this page or this concept. Other than charging a ridiculous amount for the smallest of ads, I don't see why people find anything "genius" about this. If overcharging customers and getting away with it is what it takes to be "genius" then the oil companies are an unrivaled source of knowledge that will lead us to a vastly better existence. This guy is amazingly lucky that other like-minded marketing idiots bought into his get rich quick scheme, but I don't see anything special or cool about this, except perhaps the amazing amount of attention a bunch of uninteresting ads are getting.
I wish there was a way to "undigg" an article. - ebrule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think it's great that he's getting a million, but I still think the people who bought the space are idiots. I think a lot of people had similar ideas, but nobody thought anyone would actually buy space - not even this guy, if you read some of his own comments. Props to him for making a million, but I think this is more luck than genius.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Well Done Alex, simply genious idea... simply and effective... you deserve to hit the $1m mark...
