- dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1owsome idea
- manatee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I gotta hand it to him... great idea... but I just came up with a
BETTER IDEA! INTRODUCING...
http://www.MillionPennyHomePage.com
I just registered it. I'm going to sell 100 pixel blocks for only 100 pennies... yes, you heard right, that's only $1.00 per block! If you want to reserve your spot, email me at manateemedia@gmail.com and I'll email you when the site is active. - LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this digg just made the guy alot more money. he should give the poster a cut of the money.... better yet to anyone who digged it.
- aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1he wants a millino dollar so badly, lets give it to him! lol. spread this page to everyone you know!
- nevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's my attempt! Let's see what the market thinks a single pixel is worth.
http://www.mostexpensivepixelontheinternet.com/ - Dan?!, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Read the page. It is not all for college. Some is for his parents, and some new socks.
- alextew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hi everyone, Alex here, creator of The Million Dollar Homepage.
I just want to say that the idea that I created the copycat sites is absolutey, completely 100% not true. You've got to ask yourself: a) why would I waste my time making imitations of my own site when I am really busy already? and b) why would I create copycat sites that look really, REALLY BAD?!
Don't you think its more likely that a few people think they can make a fast buck by ripping off my idea? But they won't get very far, because they don't understand the idea properly - and that is to say, it can only really be done once.
Anyway, just had to get that off my chest, but I also just wanna say a big thank you to all those who have said positive and encouraging things about my site :) - wakka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And another one: http://www.zerodollarhomepage.com
Free pixels! - StephenBauer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do you think you would get more attention if you maybe donated some of the money to a charity?
Might be worth a try since University and nice socks don't cost one million! ;) - faxxy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The copycats can go to hell. It's like Microsoft trying to catch to Google with copycat strategies, in a way. Look at Microsoft's virtualearth.msn.com for instance.
Imitation is flattery but the imitators are trying to make a cheesy buck in this case. Would you want the "nickle per pixel" guy to make $50,000 for literally copying another's idea?
If anything, at first, they'll all be starting with affiliate links and spam and then they'll die with nearly empty pages. There's really no compelling reason to visit the clones. The original one is the only legit one in my mind. - JamesW., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Or the original SANDY's website http://www.themilliondollarweb.com
Who was the first one ? - tusaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This makes me laugh.
Original, for definite, yet I feel angry because I didn't think of it first. - manatee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i finally will get off work in a little over an hour so I can tinker away at my blatent rip off of a site. I should make it look like it is from china... give it a real cheap dollar store kind of look
- StephenBauer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Alex, glad to hear you set us straight. There was such a buzz about the whole idea when I read that rumor on another board, I just got sucked in. I should have known better than to fall prey to gossip. Keep up the good work.
- Noticeboard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ooops.... that's http://www.noticeboard.co.uk
- StephenBauer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There seems to be more competition abrewing:
http://www.billiondollarhomepage.com registerd and parked.
http://www.milliondollarwebpage.com registered and placeholder.
http://www.milliondollarpage.com registered (a long time ago) and not parked. - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm absolutely amazed that people are spending $100 for a 10x10 section of a site which is likely nothing more than a fad.
- decay33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think alot of people can do it for a while, it should last a couple years. A new one just poped up. www.milliondollar-homepages.com
- misbrisco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So does anyone think another site can do the same thing? Check this out, this guy thinks he can do it just like that dude from the original site! www.everyonecandoit.com
Thank god for the internet and desperate advertisers! - boombashi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember when that guy started that several months ago - I remember looking at it when it was almost completely blank except for maybe his friends ad. I didn't think it would actually work - the dude is a freakin genious.
- asdf8888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
You'll defenitely need cable internet to make your million$, so here's where to get it:
http://www.comcast-broadband-smart-buy.com/ - Joechang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I plan to build a website called millionclickhomepage.com.
The idea is to try out one of my traffic generating theory by riding the Alex milliondollar storm.
If a member could send me 100 hits per day, he can pick a 10x10 space on my site, so if the space filled up, there's a million clicks per day. Respectively, every member will get multiple hits in return.
The Idea
I always believe, if you share you will have more. Inspired by Alex's Milliondollarhomepage brilliant pixel idea, this website is an experiment of one of my traffic generating ideas.
Simple as it is, if you can send me 100 hits a day, you can pick a 10 x 10 spot on my homepage to put your logo and link.
When the homepage filled up, there's a million clicks a day and you should get multiple hits in return.
Terms
1. I don't accept adult, gambling websites or affiliate links.
2. If a member's input hits continually lower than his space's worth for 7 days, he will lose his spot and it will become public again.
3. A new member could challenge any spot or space any time by sending 200% hits per day per space.
4. Members could use any way to send clicks to my homepage.
If you think this idea is viable, please give me your best suggestion feed backs.
Appreciate!
Sincerely,
Joe - barkley1979, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Listed by category, so you can actually find adverts you want - maybe advertisers will like this idea more? http://www.choicedirectory.co.uk
- camtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, he's making some slow money off of this
- StephenBauer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0faxxy,
I tend to agree. I just came across another one:
http://www.millioneurohomepage.com
It would be funny to see a race escalate between the three: U.K. versus Europe versus U.S.A. - camtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i wanna do this but with a dollar per 10x10 square
- StephenBauer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just read on another web site that the Alex guy is behind some of the "copy" sites. Supposedly once his site is old news, he is going to start some sort of competition between the "competing" sites to stir up a region race and additional page views. I don't know if it will work though. This is certainly entertaining to watch.
- bizzario, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I feel sorry for those who are stealing his idea... JamesW, Penny's and Wakka from above... It's funny...but all the domains registered are much later from the original... also, on James, you are such an idiot, that your FAQ's are copies, meaning if you look closely you will see that you have taken reference from the original page. You must be an idiot, because you couldn't change a key part of the text.
I guess what I am getting at is this... Be careful guy's to all of you even those who steal. Remember, copyright infringment is huge and although many have an idea, one usually follows through with it. Meaning that the one who wins can also win against those who steal in loses, etc..
Anyway, on Alex's site, look at the center, a site called engineseeker bought all of the middle blocks! It looks like they are not stopping, they have been buying it all.
Good luck to all, and good luck with the new pages as well, just be careful if you steal identical content. - StephenBauer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0look what these guys are up to they are offering a free trial http://www.milliondollarwebpage.com/try.aspx
- trimsheenapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Aw man this is hilarious. A guy comes up with an original idea to make some cash and ten minutes later there's like two hundred rip-off sites that miss the entire point as to why the original will be the only one that makes anything. Although the penny guy seems to be doing alright (even if he has only made 400 dollars or so). Yeah sound idea, and I'm again one of those "Ah *****, why didn't I think of that?" begrudging bastards. Don't know if he'll make the million but as of writing he's made over $40,000 so even if he doesn't sell another pixel he's still laughing. Right I'm off to make the $1,216,948.08 Home Page. Later.
- shiseido, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a reaction to the milliondollarhomepage & all other copy-sites there's a new site on the block that kicks some retro-pixel ass! Instead of selling ads they sell FAME! Why? Because fame sucks! Why should you earn fame, if you could buy it?? For some mini-dollars you can get some online fame & get a free Pixel Certificate with it! http://www.famesucks.be maybe nice to get it before the hype! Cheers!
- dasgof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Brilliant.
- tylersavery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love all these original ideas coming out.
Another guy came up with a site where you bid for adspace
It's completly different from this milliondollar thingy but it's still a really good idea. check it out:
www.therichestbidder.com - __anti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really like the idea,
but $1000 for a decent size is simply too much.
Anyone wanna share ?
It is fundable ! - Joec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0millliongirlhomepage, millionpornhomepage,milliongalshomepage.
lmao - big_bad_bob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why such a lack of creativity on all these knock offs? Here's one that should stand out... http://www.linksacrossamerica.com
- __anti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And who ate the link ?
http://www.fundable.org/groupactions/pixels50x20 - manatee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Million Dollar Homepage vs. Million Penny Homepage... who will win first?
http://www.twittv.com/pixelrace.html - dasgof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What about:
http://www.zerodollarhomepage.com/
? - jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another ripoff. But at least I admit it.
http://twentythousanddollarhomepage.com - Noticeboard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.notceboard.co.uk is also in competition!
- onemilpixels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://onemillionpixels.com is in competition...
- shane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great idea. Why couldn't have I thought of that? :(
- theGecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bought here http://www.adgraffiti.com At least you can type a 200 character message for each ad you place. Look more professional and it's 1/2 a cent per pixel.
- Joec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think Alex soon will sold out his homepage space.
So I plan to build milliondollarhomepage2.com, to sale more ad space.
I will make the space resale able and re linkable and my site will last 100 years.
Thanks Alex, you made a landmark! - lemontree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is outrageous, it's an internet phenomenon
http://www.rentapatch.com/ at least it looks better then the rest - wickedmoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.milliondollarmosaic.com
Yet another variation. I'll create an arts related resource around this one, as content has always ruled. I've sold a few blocks already, but if it doesn't take off I'll donate links to art sites and continue with the content. I've worked as an artist all my life, so this site combines my interest and Alex's novel idea which caught everyone's imagination. I don't think there's anything wrong with copying per se, as long as it offers something different or aims at a niche. I also run a dating and ecard site, and there are thousands of those already. - robdisner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Throwing my hat in the ring...
