- gravylookout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This was a good article but I think he left a good story on the table. He barely touched on the fact that digg is addictive and it feels good to digg. Or the ability to draw the attention of an entire community, how these communities interact, and what that means. Digg is an interesting thing and I think we can learn a lot about the future of the internet right here. Not just in what we digg but how we digg.
- DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's also the source of an infinite number of bad puns.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Several friends of mine have landed consultant positions as a result of their connections on Digg". Intriguing.
And yeah, it's the community. Digg group hug? - actionscripted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd disagree. For me, it's the discussion that forms around an article that has been Dugg.
Arguably, that's also why a lot of people never even bother to read the article, and why we all know what RTFA means. - MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FYI, This article was not written by me, just submitted by me. And to quote Digg's CEO Jay Adelson, "“There is a dark cloud around self-submission but the thing is, it makes perfect sense. If you are the author of an article, why not submit it yourself?”
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Groupthink is a lot easier when you're generating the content and promoting it.
- aoflynn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how true and well said especially what was said about once your in you're in for good!
how many times have i heard my boyfreind say "that's it, no more digg for me". and i always say "yeah right you'll be back in no time!"
without fail in two days tops he's right backin there like he never left!
alright....diggity diggity - goldigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Top Secret Method to FrontPage of Digg.
Write About Digg, Hire Popular Digger. Immediate Front Page Sucess. - haggie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Digging an article about yourself, written by yourself, in your own ***** blog???
There isn't a "Mark As Lame" big enough to fully encompass this. It's like masturbating to a picture of yourself while you whisper dirty things to yourself and videotaping yourself.
Get a LIFE! - carlosglz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know you're screwed when, if you don't see every page of new front page submissions, you feel out of the loop, or like you missed something important. I really need to cut down on my digg time... it's cutting in to working hours... anyone have the same problem?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am relatively new to Digg. Already sold on it. And well and truly hooked.
It is a powerful medium and I really think that social networking sites are laying paths to how future generations will not only consume news (as the article suggests) but more importantly, how networks all across the world can and will become empowered to influence how societies interact with each other. Knowledge that comes from sharing and exchanging ideas, thoughts and cultures can only be good for all.
Digg forward. - FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i would think that the biggest draw is the dynamic content. you don't just know what's happening now, you know what's happening now. and now. and now, etc. then, on top of that, the headlines and subject matter is tailor-fit to suit your every desire. and the icing on the cake is that you can be a part of it, too!
it's the ultimate egotistical indulgence. no wonder people eat it up! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1blog spam
/buried - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digging digg (or any other "social networking") stories is just silly.
- johnnyrocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My draw is simple:
LOTS of content.
LOTS of fresh updates. - Soldan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What is not realizing they are morons? alex.
truthfully..most often folks pipe up with bad info or a general lack of information... I have sometimes done so myself..
social news is not a craze it is a logical progression from what has alway been available on the internet.. Usenet is not just for porn ya know..
Actually i think digg has went down hill since expanding... the commentary is becoming more of the drooler variety..than of educated people... however since Slashdot for instance is slower to alot of stories we have to wade through Digg.. - SuckItUp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or... write an article bashing Bush or any other Republican. Best way to get on Digg's front page is to write a headline about how the Bush administration is secretly working with Bill Gates to suppress Linux or how Dick Cheney is on the board of a multi-lateral corporation that is working hard to keep Ruby down. Pop right to the top.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1maybe. perhaps an optimist might view it as being at the crest of something new and exciting. If it helps remove barriers between race, class, creed, culture, then there has to be a major shift on a number of different, and disparate, levels. Right across the world.
I am truly excited. - actionscripted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Get a job at an online marketing firm. Then you can read Digg as part of your job.
- Soldan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It feels good to masterbate.....
I dont feel any tingling feeling from digging... heck.. it might be said digg is a good place to let out your darker side to play.... - trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Digg is adiggting.
- starfisch, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1we're adiggted
digg puns down hard
