- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"It sounds like an urban myth but it could be a day in the life of Steve Jobs, who is chief executive of two technology companies that are admired both inside and outside their respective industries: Apple (which makes the iPod and a range of computers) and Pixar (which made the films Toy Story and The Incredibles). Apple made him a multi- millionaire, Pixar made him a billionaire, and the two mean that at the age of 50 he has cemented a unique position as a force in computing, consumer electronics (through the iPod), the music business (the iPod again) and Hollywood."
This article just happens to mention the mac as if it's incidental and doesn't even mention the mac specifically. As if Apple has always been the iPod. Those of us learning to program on Apple II+'s and IIe's take offense. I'd venture to guess that Apple is least of all, the iPod. Dugg the article anyway because it was interesting and a different perspective than I have. - Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here is a wired article dating back to 1997 titled "101 ways to save Apple" - http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/5.06/apple.html?topic=&topic_set=
- meekar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just love the ending. Great article.
- JAWS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SWEet Jesus! The man's not a guru. digg is as bad idolizing apple as /. is for pushing linux!
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think everyone is forgetting that Steve Wozniak was the one who _really_ got Apple going.
- pdlevin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0most exciting guy alive right now: Good/Bad Steve Jobs

i aggree, its great to learn about the products Apple is putting out. - ik0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Truly an amazing and intriguing man...

this is either the most genius, or the most idiotic post ever made to digg. - joehodgson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Proam500, its nice to see people being reduced to homophobic sexists.
I really like jobs' approach, I was a hardened Windows user until I gave macs a proper chance, now I would never go back. - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ bakatrinh
Sure, if i can get a day where I don't hear about windows security issues or IE exploits - X_cell_er_8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Woah, Wait, Did That Guy Say Steve Jobs Runs Pixar?
- rkehn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There have always been rumors that apple was looking into making a cell phone. This, if true, was probably Jobs just look at the crap that is available out in the cell phone market and wondering if they can make a better phone. I’m not an apple computer person but I do own an ipod and I think apple is very creative and they (usually) take the time to do what is right and not just rush to market.
- bakatrinh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can I get a day in digg that doesn't mention Apple, Steve Jobs, or iPod please?
- OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0omg what a genius! He shops for cellular phones!!!!
- jorfro2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i predict a perfect white rectangle phone. Same shape as an iPod, same screen as an ipod......just instead of a wheel, number buttons will be there.
In the center of the back will be a 2 megapixel camera. possibly 1 gb of internal disk space. Mp3 playing capability. The phone will NOT run java. Apple will not say why, or ever address the fact that it doesnt. (linux hackers will create a MUCH better version of the phone using the same hardware which apple with eventually rip off and deem their own).
blhack is my hero. - elmimmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While I do admire Jobs, I do not think you have to be a guru to hate 99% of mobile phones (their design, not their usefulness). Either that, or I am a guru too.

http://digg.com/apple/101_Ways_to_Save_Apple_(Wired-June_1997) - mikataur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing really new here, but what did catch my eye was the journalist's comment on Bill Gates's predictions of the directions technology was headed.
Apparently, Gates's book 'The Road Ahead' makes a large number of clunkers, missing many things such as the growth and importance of the web.
I'd always thought Gates was much smarter than Jobs (for one thing he's 50x richer!) and knew what made the industry tick, so I was surprised that he was being unfavorably compared as a forward thinker.
Interesting... must read The Road Ahead to see how many mistakes it actually made. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A good read and a different look at Steve Jobs.
- zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome stuff
- matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I do not think you have to be a guru to hate 99% of mobile phones (their design, not their usefulness)."
Too true - this spills over into 90% of software today. Engineers and programmers should not be interface designers. - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool article, a shame it concentrated mostly on the iPod (even if it is a great product). I'm glad there isn't any fm tuner within the iPod. it's a waste of space and radio has become a bit rubbish, in terms of content.
- krapsystem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wtf is it "an urban myth" that a billionear ever walked into a store without buying anything? Points for zealotry but crappy peice of ***** article.
- beejay54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There does seem to be a lot of Apple related posts, but remember that this is a public driven news site, so it's obviously what the majority of people want. And I seriously have to agree about the phones out there. I think the only thing that all of us care about is the ability to make a clear reliable call at a fair price. If they are going to go crazy with features they should be non-proprietary computer-interfacing (non OS dependent) features.
- spazzium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good article.
- maddog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0steve, steve, steve....
I bought a different MP3 player, because it had a FM tuner, which I needed.
the ipod mini is sitting in my room. unused. - beejay54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On that, someone should get backing for a cell phone standards organization, if we had a standards base out there we could start targeting our purchases at phones that supported the interface standards. The cell companies would climb over each other to put a shiny standards compliant stick on their boxes. Sigh, I dream to much.
- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow! One of the best articles I've read regarding an insight about Steve. A definite DIGG!!

I'm not so sure that slashdot pushes linux, it's just more like they bash microshaft.
Do i think that microsoft is all bad? NO! I think that trying to get my Mom or my sisters to run linux is a horrendous idea. It requires some DOING to get things to work correctly. IN windows everything JUST WORKS! YOu plug a printer in and something pops up asking you if you want to install it or not.
Do i run microsoft products? No (gentoo), but that is because i need the ability to do low level networking things (think hping).
DO i miss windows....yeah, i kindof do a little.....ACPI does not work on my hardware. I do not have hardware acceleration on my video card because it is made by ATI. My printer doesn't work because there are no cups drivers available for it (i'm gonna get around to writing some here soon i PROMISE!)
People complain because microsoft 'crippled' windows by disabling raw sockets on SP2, but honestly, how many of you actually USE raw sockets? That was a smart move by microsoft. - Polly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"omg what a genius! He shops for cellular phones!!!!"
Yeah, I've heard he also eats, drinks, pisses, and ***** just like everyone else, but when he does it's FAR more exciting and ingenius. They really need an article about that too :( - ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""Can I get a day in digg that doesn't mention Apple, Steve Jobs, or iPod please?"

No no no no! Then it will be linux this or CSS generator that.
I loved the "do I race cars?" self posed question BTW. - hao2lian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"...and both Steve Jobs and the French are full of it."
By insulting both Steve Jobs and the French at the same time, you have UNLEASHED A DYAD OF HATE! - jpturner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Jobs is smart, I'll give him that - the success he has created is from surrounding himself with even smarter people (like the British guy who designed the ipod or in the beginning the Woz). He also knows when to get out and move on, think NEXT and late 80's Apple. He studies trend, fad and French culture, then applies intelligence and BANG!, the next big thing is in genesis (think blue jeans, comfortable shoes and black turtlenecks - an covert Apple design team took months to get that look just right!). Those "Just one more thing..." media events are what jobs is best at - Jobs is the modern day carnival caller, version 2.0.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I had no idea Jobs owned Pixar. I guess now I'm gonna have to boycott them too. It's too damn bad so many companies are evil monopolies like Apple but I guess with people like Steve Jobs and Rupert Murdoch out there, it's bound to happen.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1>Can I get a day in digg that doesn't mention Apple, Steve Jobs, or iPod please?
like it or not... jobs is the visionary that has made computing what it is today. apple is still producing the state of the art computer dispite Microsofts thuggery and theft... he has cemented the revolution in the music industry even if the music industry doesn't want to admit it yet. pixar... thats jobs too. its hard to have a news site in the computing industry without stories about the leader. :D - pupppet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yes, Steve's ability in creating round shiny white objects is unmatched. I've wet my pants just thinking about him.

...shut your pie-hole and step back for half a second and listen to that sound... yes, that's right... that sound... you know, the one that sounds like a thousand jackasses all braying all at once.
What do you call an Apple press conference: a gathering of a thousand potential cult members all waiting to get their heads shaven and their wallets taken. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0.ok this is lame
