- dgblackout, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30to me statements that end in period are creepy. Period.

- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10RSS blends quite well too.
- ZPWeeks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What? Insightful content on Digg?
Wow, it feels like it's six months or so ago. - fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5RSS is just a common format for XML, for people who want a solution for delivering a common format of information - title, description, url, author and date. XML itself is flexible and can be used to deliver information using whatever structure you want.
The future of RSS is to remain the way it is now. Other new common formats of XML will be created to handle other common requirements, and some will be an expansion of the RSS format and even bear it's name (versions 0.90 / 1.0 / 0.91 / 0.92 / 2.0) but they have their own specifications. - RiverBelow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I disagree.
All your base > RSS & e-Mail put together - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Is it just me, or is the inevitable future going to be LSS (Less Simple Syndication)...
- mwolff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The future of RSS is called Atom...
- esquilax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3digg up... it's the truth. RSS has a major flaw: it's not simple. There are too many divergent versions of it; it's not really compatible with itself, and doesn't do a good job at what it tries to do: http://diveintomark.org/archives/2004/02/04/incompatible-rss
whereas Atom actually tries to make some ***** sense: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atom_%28standard%29#Atom_Compared_to_RSS_2.0 - Tetrabiblos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2RSS is definitely not simple, I also believe Atom will very soon replace the good old RSS.
- darkspire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Too bad this article is just a rehash of things that people in various tech circles have been going over for at least the last two years.
- 1view, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The content has indeed been crappy....stuff like The Top 10 Movie Monkeys and 10 Reasons Your Boss Hates You. If I wasn't stoned off my ass I don't think I'd ever come here
- Rosco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I don't want complex crap in my RSS feeds dammit! Keep it simple, that's why I use RSS. ***** it up with this "complex, semantically rich information" (aka AOL'ing it up) is a sure fire way to insure people who love it for its simplicity to stop using it, and create something else.
- milocat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1unless you're burying those crappy content stories you have nobody to blame except for yourself. or do you just prefer to complain? i'm thinking the latter. troll.
- surfing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I predict RSSNA: Really Simple Syndication Now with Ads
Or maybe the CNN version where there is no summary, just "Read full story for latest details." - andrewk21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1A method for delivering rich content to users? Isn't that what we're doing with, the, um, web?
- crpietschmann, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1What about SSE?
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/xml/bb190613.aspx - brandoj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah, RSS is so popular it may eventually become HTML - isn't being stripped-down the whole point?
- mindcrime, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1
So in this post, we look at RSS today and ask if RSS is evolving into a tool for delivering complex, semantically rich information.
Evolving? We've had a way to deliver complex, semantically rich information for a while now, it's called RDF.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resource_Description_Framework
Combine RDF with things like OWL and Dublin Core and you've got yourself quite a platform for delivering semantically rich information...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Ontology_Language
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin Core - milocat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2very thorough...loved the history and the real-world projections it gives. definite digg
- travismetcalf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Interesting post.
- pixites, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1what 'ld you my comment to be; RSS rules?
