- Groady, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25They were going to paint the IE logo on it but were afraid of crashes ;P
- jace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Most privately-owned buses in India get a wash every few hours. Good for business. The only dirty buses are government owned.
- orno, on 10/12/2007, -16/+36"Why is that funny? Why wouldn't "Asians" have heard about Firefox yet?"
In the same way 'Americans' don't know a world exists outside their borders... - ravioli, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Woohoo! Now what we need is one of those fox-eating-the-IE logos on public transport =)
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Indyan you seem to have an exploit on your browser that is posting a link to pallab.net, please check your greasemonkey scripts
- Reed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25and the wheels on the fox go 'round and 'round...

Why is that funny? Why wouldn't "Asians" have heard about Firefox yet? - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -5/+21What an awesome paint job, it looks so clean. Much like the browser :)
- alexp2ad, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19"You just know that site is going down :)"
LiveJournal? I doubt it, they're pretty big...
EDIT: Ah, my bad, the images are hosted externally... - orno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13for all those who still think its photoshopped: http://kalyan.livejournal.com/196167.html
the same guy who took those pictures was india's wildlife photographer of the year for 2005....
AND he just happens to work for the IT industry (although he doesnt like being called an IT professional)...
read his blog for more info and please stfu abt the photochopping - md81544, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Why? It's publicity, of a kind.
Is the Firefox logo open source, like Tux is? - somerandomnerd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13"Is the Firefox logo open source, like Tux is?"
Nope- the forefox logo isn't included in the Ubuntu distro for that reason. (Instead there's a blue globe without the fox.) - kalyanvarma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I'm Kalyan and I "do" use PS. But I only used it to make the pics look better. Check out http://rtns.org/noel/firefox for rest of the pics :)
- Mohan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9In india, this is common place. It can easily be authentic, as people paint lotsa crazy things in buses. I have seen a bus having "www." as a big logo... just "www."
- shaund, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10The guy who posted the pictures is asian.... Obviously they DO know about it.
- eihwaz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11It's cool, but i have a strange felling that it could be photoshopped. You know, Vanishing Point is there just for a reason: putting logos and writings on a bus. And the blogger is a photographer, so he knows how to use PS.
But it could be true too: both worlds behind the Fox are not the right ones (just check your Firefox icon, and see the difference), so it could really be someone in Mysore who didn't exactly know what the logo is, so they did some errors. A Photoshopper would have used the official logos. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6BS = Bharat (India) Stage...
we got our own norms here ;) - Xiol, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1080% of the whiners moved over to MySpace.
Good riddance. - scratt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This happens all the time in Thailand.. The mud flaps painted with a Cherokee version of Stalone always crack me up!
I think they just grab pictures off the internet they like and use them to decorate their busses. - spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Please share your crack with the rest of the class.
- apollo13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5waterdragon? do you know one thing? 90% of this world's software is being out sourced to asia.. come out of your hut atleast once in decade.
- kalyanvarma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hi, I actually did process them in gimp. But I just processed them, did not make them up ;)
- jimshady, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11@Agret: Yeah? Prove it smartass.
- *blu*, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I love firefox too, but am I the only one who thinks of a hippie freak bus when I see this?
- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"While coming from Mysore"
When I first read this I immediately thought it was a humorous term he or she was
using for Myspace.
Cool bus. - TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10hah, that's pretty nifty looking.
- jimshady, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6To those idiots who keep saying this is photoshopped, check the following link:
http://kalyan.livejournal.com/204212.html?thread=1979316#t1979316 - hriwo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6exif info show no signs of photoshop.
I love how people assume everything is photoshopped on here. - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Like this one? http://tecnochica.com/uploaded_images/firefox_eat_ie-792950.jpg
- Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks like the bus is leaking something. Could it be MEMORY?
- pyrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah me too... I thought it was a play on words combining "eyesore" and "Myspace"... But when he said he saw a bus while coming back from there, I was like wtf?
- idiggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lol. One of the comments on the blog:
"this bus is safe and (will) have no crash."
digg. - tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not photoshopped. Buses in India are pretty bad, most of them are bent, if you've ever been there, you can see hundreds of people hanging out of a city bus, and you can see the bus tilts a lot, messing up the suspension.
It's great advertisement. Buses in the US and other countries should have a Firefox logo, it doesn't have to be big like these pictures, but somewhere I want to see Firefox ads. - coustoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6""Why is that funny? Why wouldn't "Asians" have heard about Firefox yet?"
In the same way 'Americans' don't know a world exists outside their borders..."
This is a well known myth, In studies its been shown consistently that the average american is more aware of world events, and other cultures then most all other nationalities. Ask a person in Iraq if know anything about Mexico, or German if they know anything about columbia.
Like Most people each national locality are more concerned about people and events that affect them locally, so a person in Japan would be more aware of things occuring in China/Korea then in other parts of the world. Comparativly Americans for the last half century have consistently looked outwards globally and are more travelled and aware of the world around them then any other group of people in the world - ductions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"The Firefox icon functions as a trademark used to designate the official Mozilla build of the Firefox software. Although Firefox uses open source core software, free licensing does not extend to the artwork. For this reason, software distributors who distribute patched or modified versions of Firefox cannot use the Firefox icon."
a bus isnt software so...? - h4lofourt33n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A reply to the guy who made the asians comment: Asians invented the guy who invented firefox, of course they know about it.
- noella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hi
For you and easyCheez.
I was with the author during this trip .I've taken the latter three photographs of the bus (our car is the jalopy of a white maruti and I'm with the brown half pants ) and put them up after all the comments on shopping .I can definitely the logo was not digitally added.I can't imagine the amount of skill it would require to do something like that..plus the logo is not even exactly the same as the firefox logo.Refer to the backview of the bus and compare.
The bus looked relatively new and washed so maybe thats one of the reasons why there is nothing peeling on the centre. If you notice only the corners are peeling ..and nothing else on any part of the bus..not just the logo area.
Also a point to note is Bangalore is around 140 kms from Mysore so its not too farfetched to have a firefox logo on a bus. - neoknight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5as long as they don't get to meet you, trust me they're just fine.
- hander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mozilla couldn't care less, I imagine. It's not like they are trading on a name in order to promote themselves. Instead, it's similar to if I copied any neat design / picture and drew it on my car. What do you think would happen if you painted a big apple on your car?
- AliV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Surely a link to the firefox website would be a good addition to the picture, toehrwise it will drive past and many people will have no idea.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 And to answer the question of where the logo came, it was a bunch of guys down the street from me at Silverorange:
http://www.silverorange.com/a/news/firefox - milkfilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You live down the street from silverorange? That's awesome! Their PHP toolkit is so nice, great design group. Say hi for me! *heart* I'm always checking their site for updates, think they have a great set of heads on their collective shoulders.
- CubiX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8i don't think it is. it's property of Mozilla corporation.
still cool though ;) - ebmnoize, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5lol
what a loser! Sprays DDT in to your lungs - milkfilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digg hates the ascii heart. doh.
- anirudhvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@oaftobark
That isnt a 'town' -- just a hut in the middle of a highway (we call such things 'dhabas') where you can get food/beverages. Sure, it looks ghetto, but, atleast you dont have to worry about getting shot or stabbed or your car stolen all the time like some places in the US - AeonTorpor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2JAJA, some guys comment on that page "this bus is safe and have no crash." I can't agree more, guy.
- orno, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4hehe thats awesome...that bus is supposed to drive by my house, so incase i ever spot it ill take a few pics myself... or actually, now that i have the name of the company i could also just call them up and ask them if the paintjob is real or not (some ppl claim that its photoshopped over at the original blog posting)...
digg+++++ - Hydraulix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Livejournal is still around? They talk about slashdot being "whiny" but have you see LJ? Anyway, I just remembered that Mozilla Firefox was called Phoenix. And the logo kinda looks like the T-bird logo. Too bad it was never on a car.
- ductions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cor hicks must be proud
