- JoeF8577, on 03/03/2009, -4/+510Dear TPB, Per E Samuelson, & Carl Lundström
Thank you.
Love,
The Internet. - Brentnauer, on 03/03/2009, -5/+266Needs more Chewbacca defense.
- gingerboy, on 03/03/2009, -0/+255I'm sure a torrent will be available before the official release of the verdict :-p
- mrwoody, on 03/03/2009, -1/+196I am very curious to see what is going to happen with the verdict. I think that TPB is going to win this one, because the persecutors proved that they are just a bunch of idiots. But it will be interesting to know what will happen in the rest of the world.
- mclewell, on 03/03/2009, -2/+188April 17th for a verdict? I can't wait that long!
- wolfing, on 03/03/2009, -1/+126I'm just scared that 6 weeks to make a decision is six weeks for the RIAA or whatever to pass some checks under the table to the deciding entities.
- StupotAce, on 03/03/2009, -6/+104That's not how it's done.
- zantos420, on 03/03/2009, -2/+100Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, [approaches and softens] does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.
- Xeniv, on 03/03/2009, -2/+92Remember when they took Napster down and then a whole bunch of better programs became available to download music? If they take down TPB (which i think they won't) that's probably what will happen. Something else will just be there to take its place.
- Sublex, on 03/03/2009, -6/+90Someone needs to make a movie on this trial.
- ctpmn, on 03/03/2009, -2/+84If you strike them down now, they will become more powerful then you can possibly imagine!
- 1longtime, on 03/03/2009, -1/+82FTA:
"Nilsson again argued that TPB operates legally in every sense. The site is open in nature and it is the the site’s users that decide what content TPB tracks and this is not a decision made by the operators. Every site in the world could link to copyright material, he argued. This is not a TPB problem, this is a worldwide Internet problem, he noted."
I can only hope that the TPB operators will not pay the price for the entire (broken) digital distribution system that we call "The Internet."
Only a loss in the courtroom will wake up the major distributors that, in short, they're DOING IT WRONG. Thanks for risking everything, TPB, you're the only sane voice we have left. - ObeseSnake, on 03/03/2009, -1/+78"I fixed the Pirate Bay from inside the courtroom..." LOL
- twiztidsinz, on 03/03/2009, -3/+70Hopefully they DO try it...
And DO get caught...
I think that's one of the best things that could happen, even more than a "Not Guilty" verdict. It would fully and openly show that the RIAA/MPAA/IFPI/etc are all corrupt. - greevar, on 03/03/2009, -1/+62"persecutors" I see what you did there. :D
- GrammerPants, on 03/03/2009, -0/+49There is already better places out there then TPB. TPB may be large but it has the worst search engine, and the site is very slow.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+44I love TPB, but I'm forced to agree with the search engine complaint - I can't count how many times I came up with "no results" for a given search only to Google it and be redirected to a TPB torrent with the same exact search parameters. The torrent will even have all of my keywords in the title -.-
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -0/+44But the Judge? Does he understand it all??
- netneutrality, on 03/03/2009, -1/+43TPB can't lose this, simply because the prosecution's case is so hilariously full of holes.
- esteskid, on 03/03/2009, -2/+42no we love torrents, and hate your comment
- AdmiralAcbar, on 03/03/2009, -4/+41Dear xprojects,
I don't mind men and women who work to innovate and bring good entertainment. I just don't want my money going to lawyers and people who didn't contribute to that entertainment. I also refuse to pay for things I don't want, and the entertainment industry needs to learn that it can't just keep pumping out *****.
Love,
Pretty much all of digg. - alecks, on 03/03/2009, -2/+35It's so funny how not too long ago, so many people thought TPB was invincible. Even TPB itself thought this and taunted the industry every chance it got. I always thought this was stupid as it is ultimately a losing battle. Even if current laws provide them a safety loophole, we and TPB sometimes forget that the people we're fighting are those with the power to change the laws.
Worst yet, if laws can't be changed, the internet and it's policy makers may slowly start implementing more and more safeguards in the future, leading to a very restricted and DRMed internet.
I hope I'm wrong. - nbcaffeine, on 03/03/2009, -1/+32It does NOT MAKE SENSE!
- Tape99, on 03/03/2009, -0/+30Yes and then we can Pirate it.
- t2t2, on 03/03/2009, -1/+30Steal This Film crew were shooting the trial, see pre-vid:
http://www.stealthisfilm.com/trial/ - Maudrid, on 03/03/2009, -3/+27Torrent freak tends to be a bit optimistic. But I hope all the charges are dropped.
- Biscuitz, on 03/03/2009, -4/+25After reading that, I believe the defense is strong on this one.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+21It should be just like "Twelve Angry Men," but with pirates.
- ZinkFloyd, on 03/03/2009, -1/+21"This is a worldwide internet problem"...
This is not a problem, this is a blessing, dear sir. - drewfusb, on 03/03/2009, -4/+22i loved torrenting stuff until i started moving into the content creation end. now i love sites like hulu that run an ad. pleases me to know that writers are getting royalties.
but gotta love torrent sites. they made content sites like hulu happen. now, though, it seems like hulu is getting shows pulled back because its so successful. i think im going to go with direct marketing of material via iptv. thats the wave of the future.
anyway, yeah tpb! - Dubbard, on 03/03/2009, -0/+18No, there isn't.
- TrevorBelmont, on 03/03/2009, -4/+21No such thing as "barely controlled anarchy".
- Trifold, on 03/03/2009, -1/+17Swedish trials don't have a jury. And it's a legal trial, not a moral trial. And you're an *****.
- ironclyde, on 03/03/2009, -0/+16Wouldn't those same rules apply to Google? They can potentially link to copyrighted material and they profit immensely from ads on said pages.
- Target91, on 03/03/2009, -0/+15ahoyhoy,
Which book?
During the X-wing series he's off with Han Solo fighting Zsinj.
During the Koornacht crisis he was either with his family or trying to rescue Han solo.
And at the beginning of the New Jedi Order series he got killed off.
He fought at Endor and probably stayed a week or two for victory celebrations, but he never lived there.
I'm taking this too seriously aren't I? - nerdherder, on 03/03/2009, -0/+14You've obviously completely missed the rest of the trial. The prosecutors show how stupid they are almost every day of the trial.
- eqisow, on 03/03/2009, -0/+14They have said that TPB will continue operating even in the event of a conviction... so it will be interesting, to be sure. They also say that the site is nearly raid proof now; hopefully that won't be tested.
- greevar, on 03/03/2009, -0/+14The internet is not broken. Rather, it is unregulated. The internet is a tool and therefore, cannot be blamed for those who use it. The origin of the internet was a decentralized network that can continue to operate despite the destruction of any part of that network. That was developed by US defense department. The internet continues to function exactly as it was designed. It's the way people use it that has changed.
The profitability of so-called "intellectual property" is contingent on the IP holder's ability to control it. Thanks to digital media and the inherent openness of the internet, these people no longer have any control over who gets to possess this media. They fail to realize that it's already out and they can't stop it. Fighting piracy is an futile effort and the media corporations need to realize that and start figuring out how to use it to their advantage instead. - MrBabyManSTFU, on 03/03/2009, -0/+13English *****. Do you speak it?
- eqisow, on 03/03/2009, -2/+15Does anybody know why the verdict won't be delivered until April 17th? Seems kind of arbitrary...
- Ihomeinnovator, on 03/03/2009, -1/+14Looks like a win for the pirate bay, as the defendant stated, you can simply type "torrent" in on google and get the same result, just less concentrated in information...
- ctpmn, on 03/03/2009, -0/+13He wants more time for the RIAA, MPAA, and IFPI to sweeten the deal.
Learjet anyone? - Ford_Prefect2nd, on 03/03/2009, -2/+15Any person who says digg me up or down gets dugg down, you could have told us the secret to life the universe and everything and the results would have been similure.
- compgeek, on 03/03/2009, -0/+12People sit and say that waiting basically 6 weeks for a verdict is slow justice. Yea right in North America sentencting could be 3-4 months away. That point aside I think TPB will win this one they had STRONG defences and the prosecution was weak at best.
- TheHayze, on 03/03/2009, -0/+12It says "Due by April 17th." So maybe we'll see it sooner? I dunno why the Judge wants to take 1 and a half months to think about it.
- Flipperbw, on 03/03/2009, -0/+12IF the prosecution wins, it's a failure and condemnation of the court system because the "evidence" presented and the manner in which it was introduced is pathetic.
And who remembers lokitorrent?
IF the prosecution wins, and TPB is shut down, we will probably see a repeat of what occured when lokitorrent (and suprnova, and napster...) were shut down: a brief period of absence and then a tenfold resurgence of substitues, often better than the original.
And for the meantime, there's still mininova. - KlogereEndGrim, on 03/03/2009, -0/+12verdict is 1½ month away.
BUT LET'S DONWLOAD LIKE IT'S 1999! - CoD4, on 03/03/2009, -4/+16You know what that means, download like crazy tonight!
- mescad, on 03/03/2009, -0/+12How could #4 be implemented? TPB has no way of knowing which torrents might contain copyright content. The only way to put that into practice would be to discourage clicking on any link.
- Ikus13, on 03/03/2009, -2/+13Don't know why you're being dugg down. You're right.
