- winampman2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The RIAA won't sue Google because they like to target the weak, instead of something their own size.

- tybris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the future is going to be so boring...all 'best ever's will already have been found..
- SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks - I went to http://www.adelaider.com/google/
Grabbed the PDF cheat sheet and printed it out - gonna be a permanent fixture on my desk at work. - michal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are also a few interesting tips from Google itself, like using "~" for synonym search, or ".." for numbers range:
http://www.google.com/help/refinesearch.html - TheDarkTipper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Try http://g2p.org/
- Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Actually, this is the best resource. http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/googlehks/
No digg. - bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5When me ***** turns people and tastes like rainbow sherbet, that's when RIAA will sue Google ;-)
- agentgonzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bauglir,
"Index of ..." is the title that apache and other popular web browsers put at the top of a page when there is no index.html (or equivalent file) in that directory. It then goes on to list the files in the directory. Thus, if you search for "index of" as well, the you'll be pretty sure to get a directory listing from which you can download files, rather than a webpage. - quadvods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.altavista.com ... click music... search.
- loveme4iamjesus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is pretty groovy. I've been using g2p.org for a while now for finding mp3's but it's handy to have a guide of all the ins and outs for searching.
This already has the digg effect:
http://www.duggmirror.com/technology/The_Best_Google_How-TO_Ever/ - fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Uhm... Google searches IN those documents for the most part... you are confusing indexing of the actual file and indexing of the contents of the file.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not another "Best _____ Ever" post! Stop saying best ____ ever!
- fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1or you could just use http://search.zektek.com or http://g2p.org
- loveme4iamjesus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I pirate there I am!
No, this is using technology to our advantage. Although I suppose this is kind of like hacking... Going through the backdoor to "borrow" files from a folder off a computer (albeit a public computer - server). - SparkyPine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*SPAM*
...gees - nox327, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1some of these don't even work like the spell:word or maps:
- Rampart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FTFA:
"# filetype:
Does a search for a specific file type, or, if you put a minus sign (-) in front of it, it won't list any results with that filetype. Try it with .mp3, .mpg or .avi if you like."
FTFGoogleFAQ:
"1. What file types are returned in a Google search?
There are 13 main file types searched by Google in addition to standard web formatted documents in HTML. The most common formats are PDF, PostScript, Microsoft Office formats:
* Adobe Portable Document Format (pdf)
* Adobe PostScript (ps)
* Lotus 1-2-3 (wk1, wk2, wk3, wk4, wk5, wki, wks, wku)
* Lotus WordPro (lwp)
* MacWrite (mw)
* Microsoft Excel (xls)
* Microsoft PowerPoint (ppt)
* Microsoft Word (doc)
* Microsoft Works (wks, wps, wdb)
* Microsoft Write (wri)
* Rich Text Format (rtf)
* Shockwave Flash (swf)
* Text (ans, txt)
Google is also scouring the Web for additional file types that are very rare. You may see them pop up in your results from time to time. "
I was under the impression that using a filetype other than any of those doesn't actually do anything. - Rampart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perhaps I am, but if you do a search using any of those filetypes, you will get results that say "File Format: _____" While it doesn't for an 'unsupported' format. It just seems to do some sort of modified search.
try:
songfight filetype:mp3
versus:
mp3 songfight
versus:
songfight filetype:pdf
While it makes sense that google would display pages that link to certain items, and that there would be a way to find them, this doesn't appear to be it. If you can show me a counter-example, that would be great, I really would like this to work, I just can't seem to get conclusive hits. - danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the MPAA will never sure Google, Google will BE the MPAA by that time
- vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so your ***** would be rainbow sherbet flavored people?
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These have been around sense BEFORE google was a stack of PC's with their sides missing...
- coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cheers redyellowgreen, thats a great cheat sheet.
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The RIAA won't sue Google because they like to target the weak, instead of something their own size."
I thought they already have. Aren't they going after YouTube and Google Video for people uploading videos w/ non liscensed background music? Ha! I can't wait. - Legion303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Life just wouldn't be the same without my weekly "how to use google without reading the instructions" guide on Digg.
- Switch22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Worth a bookmark, the Advanced Tips will help in the future. You get better results in google if you type in a phrase and add quotations, rather than a word or words with plus minus and other commands.
- Bauglir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How does searching for "index of" help?
- Bauglir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That makes sense, thanks
- Kahr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My personal favorite is "filetype:torrent", though this does return slightly old results from time to time (depending on what you're searching for). What's most interesting is that legit torrents are harder to find via this method and illegal torrents are most often updated, in my experience at least.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is stolen content. The orginal content is at adelaider.com/google

- devoinregress, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Google search is so 5 years ago.
- Jams, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I accidentally stubled upon this idea (along with "index of" type searches) about 4yrs ago and mailed google. LIttle did I know it was gonna be a big thing (google hacks etc.)
Google thanked me for the info but were well aware of the idea. - woonz, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0The search result in skreemr is not 100% accurate all the time. Sometimes its very difficult to download songs from this site. So i recommand http://www.woonz.com for searching and downloading song. It's a complete mp3 search engine. user can listen to online or can download from this site. it's really amazing. U guyz can give a look in to it. U will love it! woonz.com rocks!

Where is the digg google button? - FCon4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3That has to be the best comment ever. Really.
- MiloMindrbindr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3rofl, personally i was waiting for him to work Wii in there somehow.
- genelmx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It is well written and complete but it may not be "the Best google how-to ever". There are tons of google hacking/data mining sites around but the author sure made it easy to understand.
- CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Title should be "Google for Morons"
- id34, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0A lot of this is old but very useful to have in one place.. not many people realise how powerful Googles simple frontpage is!!!
