- teddyrux, on 10/12/2007, -4/+97:-] I AM KIDDING
:-[ I AM SERIOUS - KingBabi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+93The lack of the word "the" made me want to eat my own hands.
Other than that it's pretty cool and informative, unlike other local news broadcasts. Good for Canada. - pixeleyes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+88At the end...he was talking about Net Nutrality....
Damn it took a while to get through Congress - superdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+79Hahaha how quaint:
"There's not a lot of swearing, or put downs that one would expect to find. There aren't screenfulls of 'go to hell.' "
What happened to us? :( - b3mus3d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71"There's an interesting kind of restraint you can find... there's not much cursing or swearing... not many putdowns."

- Bean945, on 10/12/2007, -13/+71Unless you wanted to see command line porn, it was pretty useless then.
- Hervard, on 10/12/2007, -8/+66I love how it's constantly referred to as "Internet" instead of "the Internet".
- edmdusty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+581993 "I like Internet."
2000 "I like the Internet"
2007 "I like The Internets" - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -4/+59This was back in the days before John Gabriel's Greater Internet ***** Theory
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19 - twilightzone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57He misspelled definitely at 4:35.
- archlich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55For some reason I don't think thousands of jocks would have been on the early Internet talking about football.
"It's not a screen fulls 'of go to hell' "
"It's interesting, because one would think if you are anonymous you would do anything you want"
Yea... that didn't last. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+57That's really wierd that the internet was new in 1993 - wonder what I was using for most of the previous decade then?
- victorc26, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53Boobs, news, and games. A winning combination. :)
- martinus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53the non-geeks and have taken over the internet.
- Beaver6813, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50"I can indulge me passion for all things thai" - Richard somewhere in England
Erm excuse me!? - KingSnorky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+502007 "I like teh Internets"
Spelling corrected. You're welcome.
Sorry, I mean... "your welcome". - Frost9999, on 10/12/2007, -6/+53I know you're not being completely serious, but the video was pre-web days. It shows usenet posts and groups but not the www. I loved the sound of the modem... it sounds like nostalgia to my ears.
- Beetlesweb, on 10/12/2007, -7/+49@cyberdork:
You remember floppy disks?! - kylesherman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41it's called...internet...
- Cyberwretch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35Ahhh, Usenet in 1993. The civilized, polite, text-based international Bulletin Board where one could learn, exchange ideas, ask questions and get cogent responses from folks with similar interests.
Multiple threads with cultural, geographic, religious or intellectual divergent opinions expressed with respect for others' viewpoints.
Then AOL provided a gateway to Usenet and we got spam, flaming personal attacks, rudeness and moronic behavior.
I'm still trying to determine if that was progress. - Karmalary, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37I go back to the days of tape drives. Was even running my own BBS. I'm ancient.
- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38The correct term is "Internets".
Eg. "I'm surfing internets." - baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -8/+41retro nerdiness...
- mflux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34Internet. Serious Business.
- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37Ahh, the good old times. I still remember when the imdb fitted on a floppy disk. I'm old :-)
- MakiNavaja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Fantastic! A very interesting watch/listen.
One funny thing: about 4:30 into the video you see a guy mistype "definitely" (writes, "definately")! Haha The more things change...the more they stay the same, apparently. - reiner15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26not having to remember or learn a whole lot of stuff, because I have Google at my fingertips!
- judgeFire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25"Like Greenland had the internet in 1993...."
They appear to have had UUCP and Fidonet in 1991, which means they had computers and phones. (And why wouldn't they.)

- select, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22"From Stein in Oslo" they say... And show a Swedish flag. I don't think the capital of Norway was under Swedish command in 1993 :-)
- leoedin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Can anyone find any of the groups shown on google groups? It would be interesting to see if you could find "Richard" who liked thai, or the original "What does the internet mean to you" post..
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Actually, YouTube played ASCII videos back in the early 90's. :-]
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Does anyone else think this looks like Windows XP ?:
http://flickr.com/photos/89167882@N00/402035787/ - zadatak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19at 3:30 in the video, there are two computers in the background. One looks like a BSOD and the other looks like a Windows XP desktop (!)
- fotoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Actually the web did exist back in 1993, although usenet, ftp, email, and gopher ruled the net back then.
I remember telneting into that server in Cern, Switzerland with my green on black xterm and poking around the physics site back in 1993 Content was over my head at the time, but the web existed, it just took a year to pick up momentum and then took off like rockets in 1995.
The first web site I built was a replication of the Univ of Texas Health Centers phone help line. Little did I know I should have tried to make some money from that... :)
Not only do I remember floppies, but I remember Civilization I fitting on 1 3 1/2" floppy!! Wing Commander was 3 floppies. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Canadian retro nerdiness! CBC to be exact.
- icoup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20We love our Peter Mansbridge :-)
- nixfu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Wow..fond memories of my first years using the Internet (86-95).... Back then USENET was king, and commerical ads were prohibited on the Internet.
I downloaded all the early versions of Linux over USENET/Dialup.... Linux was about 12 floppys back then. - SonnyW, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19The terrorists have won.
- Zreitan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25This gets posted about every three months... we are so done with this... what they need to do is show this to 5th graders, so they know how lucky they've got it
- Eastlygod, on 10/12/2007, -11/+27Like Greenland had the internet in 1993....
- bIuebonics, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17yea.. i had a version of renegade bbs going, and a hacked majorbbs going. kids these days, they look at you like you have 6 heads if you even mention a bbs.

- david76, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17"I can indulge my deep and abiding passion for all things Thai." - The first Internet Pedophile
- Radan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15That wasn't anything near hilarious. It was just incredibly interesting. I say that is a very important piece of our history. Just think about how fast our technology has evolved in just a couple of years.
