- deadguysleeps, on 11/08/2009, -2/+110dear digg, i know that ads are important for your business operation, but this dragon age ad is horrible. When more people complain about it on the comment section, the more people will be exposed to adblock plus from other commenters. i believe this is called 'collective intelligence'.
btw,
i wonder what diggers will say when digg change this ad to Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball ? - m4xn00b, on 11/08/2009, -2/+62Is anybody seeing a huge background ad for Dragon Age: Origins?
i dont like this =( - IIECONII, on 11/09/2009, -2/+28I blocked the ***** out of that Ad yesterday with ABP.
...now I see a nice black background...although my Digg-window seems shrunk. - spritom, on 11/08/2009, -1/+24FTA (decrypted):
ROT13
what does julius caesar have anything to do with modern day internet? caesar invented a simple encryption method that became quite popular in usenet newsgroups as a mean to hide spoilers, punchlines and puzzle solutions. the idea is simple: replace a piece of text with letters 13 places further along in the alphabet ("rotate by 13 places" or rot13). the genius of the method is that because there are 26 letters in the english alphabet, the same encryption method will decrypt a rotated text! - shakabrah, on 11/09/2009, -2/+22so true. if you keep your ads minimally invasive i will continue to see them. if you make them like this, i will block everything altogether.
- nerddtvg, on 11/08/2009, -1/+17I knew most of those, but I just had to call it quits at "Before Digg, there was Slashdot." Most here are not new to the Internet and have most likely heard of, if not used, Slashdot before.
Edit: I lied, I went down to USB. That is not the real inventor. That's an actor. - Kronos6948, on 11/09/2009, -0/+15Easy fix in Adblock Plus. Add this to blocked items:
http://cotnet.diggstatic.com/img/skins/*
You'll have a black background instead. ***** the new Diggspace. - Namco, on 11/09/2009, -2/+16There's a nasty bloody guy on the left of my screen and a lame advert for a cheezy video game on the right. This is not right!
- TobiasParker, on 11/09/2009, -2/+15My adblock wont even hit this and i tried dicking around with the settings and everything. I lied, i got it but now it is just pitch black which is almost as annoying.
- r0ji, on 11/09/2009, -1/+14I did this and it worked:
1. Right click, View Background Image
2. Right click, Copy Image Location
3. Go back, and right click on any random image
4. Select Block Image, then select Custom (radio button)
5. Erase existing URL and Paste from clipboard
6. 'Add filter'
It'll be pitch black now, though... - bubbachuck, on 11/09/2009, -0/+11Phil Katz's story is truly heartbreaking
- Kronos6948, on 11/09/2009, -1/+10Add this to blocked items:
http://cotnet.diggstatic.com/img/skins/* - Kronos6948, on 11/09/2009, -0/+8Add this to Adblock Plus:
http://cotnet.diggstatic.com/img/skins/* - PlatnumPlatypus, on 11/09/2009, -0/+7"IS IT COMPUTER RELATED?? THEN THROW IN OUR GIANT DRAGON AGE AD!!!
Why? cuz geeks likes computers and therefore like computer games and therefore will appreciate ad spam."
At the very least have a big-breasted conquerer instead of the Doom-like injured guy. - vpshockwave, on 11/09/2009, -1/+7Dugg for the intel commercial.
- rolf, on 11/09/2009, -0/+6After Digg, there is still /. as well. Digg has a wider range of stories, but /. usually has better discussion and is more tolerant of opposing opinions although it is more centered on "news for nerds".
I wouldn't give up either site. - AnalogAssassin, on 11/09/2009, -2/+8Awright, I just installed ad block plus but I still see this lame ad wallpaper. What am I missing?
- burrdugg, on 11/09/2009, -3/+9DRAGON AGE IN STORES NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- indyGuy, on 11/09/2009, -2/+8Adblock's not blocking it. My eyes - they BURN!
- mgbuddy, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5Oh *****... this is my last view of Digg. This is plain disgusting. Back to slashdot...
- Vektuz, on 11/09/2009, -1/+6in case anyone wants to know the source of it
add this to your adblock
http://cotnet.diggstatic.com/img/skins/* - Metalcard, on 11/09/2009, -1/+6For the annoying background ads, here is a simple GreaseMonkey script I wrote up. Gets of the ad, with or without AdBlock, and makes the background the proper color.
Wont resize the page though, couldn't get around the CSS used to shrink the width. Maybe someone else can get the page to rezise properly.
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/61544 - skinny01, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5The article was cool but I don't want to digg it because of this ad *****. I never want to see this again!
- joerdie, on 11/09/2009, -1/+6Dude, this thread has been derailed by the ad. I'm sure that Rose will be happy to know that all conversations have stopped.
- Necrid, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3no, i don't, it just says: "dragon" no idea what the rest is.
- FelixDrylock, on 11/09/2009, -1/+4liked the article (except the slashdot part and the part where they refer to the actor in the Intel commercial as the real inventor of USB) but I'm tempted to bury this article because of the dragon age ad. Ever since they started coming up (actually, since the WTWTA audio ads) I've been browsing other social news sites more and more. The content here is still my favorite, but rest assured, if this continues, I will leave this site once I find a suitable alternative.
- Metalcard, on 11/09/2009, -1/+4I made a little GreaseMonkey script to get rid of the ad and replace the background with the proper color so its not black if your using adblock. It will get rid of the ad even without adblock to.
Couldn't get the page to resize though because of how Digg used the !important value on the main container in the CSS, but hey, the ad is gone at least.
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/61544 - lordmike, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3Linus Torvalds was right. Freax would have been a much better name!
- gizram84, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1v ybir nany frk
- usman6, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1This means Android's going to be at more risk with it's Open Source architecture.
- catvllvs, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Tried this after doing the above... works well - I get a lovely light blue grey background now :]
Thanks - fandyllic, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1"Cisco System was named after the city San Francisco (the founders of the company worked for Stanford University, which is just a couple of town over)."
Yeah, I suppose if "a couple" equals 8 to 9 towns and 30+ miles. Try googling map directions from SF to Palo Alto. - catvllvs, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Thanks
- deadguysleeps, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2i love collective intelligence
- yaazz, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1255 is 0xFF
256 is 0x100.
A dollar is 100 pennies in base 10, so a dollar will be 256 pennies in hex.
Zero doesn't count in this case although yes, technically it would be 256 possible combinations - Namco, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Thanks, it worked. Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. You probably saved me a lot of time looking through page source. ;-D
- Kronos6948, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1I can't take full credit. I found it on another comment thread a few days ago. I'm just helping to spread the word.
- mGARANDEUR1, on 11/27/2009, -0/+1I'm not seeing it. Yeah I started using ad-block because Digg started putting pop up ads on their site.
- deadguysleeps, on 11/28/2009, -0/+1Digg took it down after diggers did this :
http://digg.com/design/Who_on_Digg_hates_this - MaverickPS, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1On that part about getting a check for $2.56 for finding an error in a CS textbook, i had a feeling that it should be for $2.55. I guess that's because I am an electrical engineer.
Other EE's feel the same? - guabancex, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Thank you, absolute buckets of "thank you"s
- fandyllic, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1I still Digg this article, though...
- bobertoq, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1Send Digg a message about it now!
http://digg.com/contact/ - duk0r, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1Ad block users: Right click on image and add filter.
- DonAlfred, on 11/09/2009, -5/+3"Or that Twitter used to be called twttr"
It should've been called "*****" - RIPtechtv, on 11/09/2009, -3/+1Did I just go to a site that had Spyware protect 2009 try to pop up?

What is Digg?
