- Mapou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm in the market for a good coffee maker. I never realized until today how many different choices were available. Thanks to everyone who provided useful links, personal reviews and suggestions. The pod systems look attractive but since I like to mix my own blends, I would probably go for a more traditional brewing system. This Aerobie thing is rather interesting. Add a USB port and it'll be perfect. :-)
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg, but since your average Joe can barely be bothered to rinse the carafe, I can hardly see a lot of people using this thing. :D
- Vulturejoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this looks like a modernized vacuum brewer, nothing too new
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I feel like it's 3am and I just woke up to someone with a British accent selling me something on TV....
- timuel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll stick with my Keurig, thank you. I refuse to accept that a better cup of coffee can be made =]
http://www.keurig.com/B60.asp - levyjl1988, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This reminds me of the tea from diggnation I got over the internet. Digg anyway...
- appidydafoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Vacuum Brew... Jesus H. Do I need to buy an air compressor and wake my entire floor when I rev that beast up in the morning or what? This invention is equally cheesy and the post is a) a shill or b) ignorant of brewing history.
Btw, 1lb in a Toddy only takes 8 hours, not 24. - silentdud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Missing an "e" in that title?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah well, could be spam. I'm an espresso junkie so, $30 what the hey.
The best coffee I've ever had was made with the cold brew toddy maker though. Of course it takes 24 hours, but you end up with a concentrate from a lb. of coffee. - orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To build a better french press....
- katsanes, on 01/30/2008, -0/+0Holy *****, this is why they're so busy, my wife's anticipating a job offer from Aerobie any day now!
- appidydafoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Uh... wtf? New? Cold-brew methods have been around for hundreds of years. Get one of these: http://www.toddycafe.com/ and use the concentrate for 2 weeks... skip this "invention".
- fennec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dig! Because, without coffee, my day would start sometime around 11:00am.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Aeropress does a few neat things - specifically a small anodized aluminum french press mug that I was thinking would be great for backpacking. This thing looks cool, probably makes a great cup of coffee, but it seems a bit unwieldy. Still, dugg.
- phidong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.aerobie.com/WhereToBuyUSAAnswers.php?aeropress=Y&submit=Find%2BRetailers%21
theres alist of retailers, not many.. heh - MightyMik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bought one...from Locals Only Coffee. I was in the market for a press anyway.
- aznbond, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow! Anyone know where you can buy it? Be it online or in store, the manufacturers site only sells their toy products.
Seems like this has all the advantages of a french press and none of the disadvantages. For anyone who hasn't tried coffee from a french press; please do so. The flavor is just that much more intense. - kingofallchili, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just ordered. Can't wait for it to arrive.
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Notice the research didn't compare vacuum brewing
http://www.aerobie.com/Products/aeropress_story.htm
Vacuum brew is the way to go, for a full pot give the cheap B&D VB100 Infuze a shot (don't try making less than a full pot though).
I think you will be impressed with the coffee, and it's fun to watch! - ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To: Dumbasses Complaining this is Advertising
What do you think is going on when they review a mac, or talk about googles newest 'product' here on digg. I fail to see how this is different. They talk about its benefits and such. Just as they would a laptop or MP3 player. - duprejr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I found the Aeropress on http://www.singleservecoffee.com/ last week and ordered one on a whim. It arrives today. Regardless of whether it is great or just good, it is only $30 so there's not much to lose. I drink more in Starbucks in a two week period and this will help to bring down that cost. I bought it at http://www.coffeebeancorral.com/. Dugg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm just starting to roast my own beans so this caught my eye. Vacuum seems to be the brewers method of choice and while you can get a serviceable pot rather cheaply it seems that for it to function best, you need a burr grinder for your beans, which start at $100 for a low end model!
No thanks.
I might check this out if my French Press ever fails me. - PitPat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1More often than not, anything claiming to be "smoothest, richest, purest and fastest" or some how "best" tends to hit far from those claims. This "article" is not far from simply being spam.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really cannot see this device being better than a vaccum brewer. Those totally rule.
- mbattersby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it just me, or is it hard to take seriously a coffee lover who thinks the Nespresso system is "gourmet coffee at home"? No digg.
- kheiligh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd rather have perfectdraft, which i find from that same site...
- crossers, on 07/14/2008, -0/+0I don't think that this is something new. And the best coffee is the coffee you make!

Maybe they're just being polite :P. - Schda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@crankypants
You can actually get a Burr grinder for about 30 bucks at Target. Don't know if it's the best or not, but I haven't heard any complaints from the person I bought it for.

- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks like it makes a single cup of coffee at a time, or do you just press it into each cup?
Also, if you're gonna use it, you gotta wait around for some water to boil, unless there's some new kettle I'm unaware of that boils in seconds. - cybelius, on 01/25/2009, -0/+0I get my green coffee beans from a place called moncafevert.com
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i woulda put this under "design" but whatev's ..... gotta have my java
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This isn't an AD, this is a totally new "coffee technology", and that is why it is on digg.
Besides, look at how many people are digging the story and actually buying the thing (me too). - MightyMik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my $30 burr grinder (modded by me) will in fact do a fine enough grind for espresso, and works well w/ my recenty purchased Aeropress. Glad i saw this.
- icebaerg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anybody looking to find this in Canada ... www.eureca.ca
- 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@lordsandwich
I agree with your thoughts - that's one of the reasons that Starbucks and others are so popular. The average American knows next to nothing about coffee, how it's made *correctly* and what it should taste like. Most people are under the impression that "good coffee" is a drink that is choked with piles of sugar and other artificial flavorings. They have all robbed themselves of something which is quite a bit more sophisticated (in terms of both taste, and authenticity) than your average Starbucks fare.
Maybe this product will motivate a few to venture beyond the pop cultural horizon to experience something that is much better. - lazur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cold-brewed coffee is the lowest-acid. (I happen to use a 'Toddy') Low acidity cuts out all the high-end harshness, revealing chocolate and other undertones, and allowing you to make smoother, stronger coffee than any heated method. I can see having this around when I'm waiting 12 hours for my next pound of cold brew to be ready.
- kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Also why Dunkin Dognuts is popular too... man their coffee tastes like the smell of feet! Starbucks is usually burned and bitter... the best coffee i've had was at UMass lol...
- drytool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Exactly lazur, I agree that what the Aeropress is best for is making coffee while you are waiting for your toddy.
- MrPhelps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Vaguely disguised advertisement ... no digg.
- tntfrazier, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I found them at www.flagsandkites.com for 29.99
- ddhr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Albertpacino: Please stop using the internet until you learn how to spell.
- ateoto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0MMMMmMmM, Coffee.
- Legionaire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thx for the link, just trying to find a shop that will ship it to the UK and I am all set
- CovardeAnonimo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i seriously doubt this can make a better coffee than an old fashioned cloth filter...
unfortunately, since i live in a sub-developed 3rd world country, 30 bucks is a LOT to me. plus shipping and handling, we're talking about my monthly food budget, so no magik coffee brewing thingy for me anytime soon - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1What is this, slashdot? How much did this ad cost?
- davefaris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wow. I didn't realize Digg accepted ads this way.
- ryan_merket, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Starbucks blows ass... kthxgbye
- appidydafoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0It's amazing how many comments in this thread are just self-congratulatory spooging by idiots who've already thrown down $30 on this "new invention"... give me a break, this isn't what I come to digg for. Maybe if you had some good coffee to begin with you wouldn't be in such a zombie haze, frothing at the mouth over this crap, vacuum brewing or proprietary pod machines.
