The 50 Websites read most often by the Top 100 Diggers
naffziger.net — Ever wonder what websites the top Diggers are reading? This is a list of the 50 sites submitted most frequently by the top 100 Diggers. Find out which Diggers only submit from one website.
- 696 diggs
- digg it
- avihappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Youtube is the highest. Is anyone surprised?
- Muyoso, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Imagine that, thinkprogress.org is quite high, especially for such a biased political website.
- 81v3d07g0d, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Has anyone else noticed that the quality of stories on digg has serverly gone down hill? before its huge popularity it seemed like a lot more worthwhile stories reached the front page. Now things just lean towards the lowest common denominator, I mean hell youtube is the most visited site for stories, that seems like a problem to me. I don't know, is there a solution to this or am I way off base here? I guess I would consider myself a semi regular digg user, I don't submit a ton of stories or comment on everything but lately I find a lot less stories to digg, but not only that so many more stories seem like spam of one type or another.
- Muyoso, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10The quality of digg has gone down because websites like CNN and ars and engadget and gizmodo are beaten by things like thinkprogress.org. I don't mean to focus only on them, but for them to seriously be #7 in the most posted website, EVERY story from them has to be submitted. Its a small website, esp when compared to CNN, and NOT all stories are worthy of submission. Thinkprogress stories are submitted because of a polticial agenda, and there are a ton of people who artificially push all their stories to the front page. The fact that stories are being artificially promoted is the main reason for this website going downhill.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17"Has anyone else noticed that the quality of stories on digg has serverly gone down hill?"
honestly, these complaints are getting old. for people that complain that digg is no longer tech oriented, those people sure seem pretty unsophisticated technically speaking.
all you have to do is uncheck everything besides "tech" and you have your old "digg" back. of course, what fun would that be, you might miss something you could bitch about. - bobcrotch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12And somehow you cannot connect the political bias on Digg with Thinkprogress? It makes perfect sense. I don't even click the political stories anymore on Digg because it's almost like reading propaganda.
- 0crabby0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Dugg, but noted as inaccurate.
No goatse, or Hamster dance. - ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3In general, with an increase in both education level and general news saturation, there is an increased instance of liberal views. Since diggers are generally well-educated and well-informed, you can expect to see some serious political bias. It's a chicken and egg question, though, as undoubtedly liberal minded people beget liberal news which begets more liberal minded people.
- francisew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I agree with the loss of quality as more people are gaming digg.
I think that there should be some anti-gaming measures, such as decreasing the page rank of “Patron Diggers” with more than 50 or 100 diggs per site.
thinkprogress.org 175 11 jlegum (119)
livescience.com 157 16 starexplorer (104)
nwfdailynews.com 147 1 giantAppleCore(147)
How the “Patron Diggers” like giantAppleCore get through is beyond me. I assume they have some kind of digg network clickers, like the group that attacked slashdot. Perhaps they simply change their gaming tatics whenever digg adjusts, or perhaps digg is accepting donations in exchange for front-paging. I doubt digg will last much longer, I think it'll head in the slashdot direction (downward)... are we all moving on to reddit at some point (or whatever new system isn't yet being rigged)?
ps. It's hilarious that the digg spell check tool doesn't recognize "Diggers" as a word. - fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The list should be called 'what diggers are submitting' not 'reading'.
- iching, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Good list of websites to become aware of breaking news
What? No little green footballs or hotair? I'm shocked I say, just shocked.- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7"Ever wonder what websites the top Diggers are reading?"
No, are they better than me because they spend more time on digg? Do I care what they're reading? - Muyoso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No, you don't understand, its the amount of stories submitted to Digg by the top users. Not what they read. Therefore it shows how the top diggers are skewing Digg's stories.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2okay, yeah, you're right.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7"Ever wonder what websites the top Diggers are reading?"
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Good compilation of sites.
This is why I love Digg!
Keep digging... - kidc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm surprised to not see boingboing.net
- colpridenyc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I'm even more surprised not to see cnet up there.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Why? Boingboing is just blog spam. Link to the source buddy!
- emiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@colpridenyc
The second link is cnet news. - avihappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3News.com is C|net
EDIT: Damn, got beat to it - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's good Ars Technica is in the top 10. That site has some great articles now and then, and good ones to fill the spaces between. All in all it's basically what you'd expect from the list.
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Title is innaccurate, no one actually reads the articles
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3He didn't say "articles" in the title!
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16[sarcasm]Wait a minute... this links to a blog entry with no advertising??? What's going on here? [/sarcasm]
- davenaff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The title is totally accurate. Just to be clear this is a list of the submits by domain by the top 100 diggers. On this list, BoingBoing would be # 125 - perhaps it gets submitted by people outside of the top 100 diggers.
- ZaNkY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I read a nice amount of sites regularly, but If I find a digg worthy article, I always post directly to the source.
For example: Engadget covers Gadget X wonderfully, I link to Gadget X, not Engadget's little blurb. Sometimes however, I will go out of my way to leave a comment on the digg that I submitted listing my source of how I became aware of the topic. - copernic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.dslreports.com/ is always worth a look imo.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hear ya but people on BBR hate digg for some reason
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I could see why Yahoo news is in the top 3 b/c its just as many digg trolls as yahoo trolls
- trekmambo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1lmao you guys should read these two stories...
http://digg.com/offbeat_news/5_Reasons_this_Article_will_not_get_on_the_Digg_com_Front_Page
That one I posted but esspecially the last point on that list strikes me to be real funny in the light of this post. And then the second one...
http://digg.com/tech_news/5_Ways_Digg_Users_Commit_Suicide_Everyday_BWAHAHA

ihatesony.com
3604life.net
bluraysux.org
and
wiirox.com- 00monkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dugg down as inaccurate. no xbox fan sites listed
- gojeda, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2DIGG this article, if anything, so that everyone can see that Rhiannon and snipehack are paid shills for the websites they represent.
- slantyeyed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This story should have be re-named . . . "Visit these web sites if you want to be a Digg Fanboy" . . . digg anyways.
- lysdexia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ LiquidNight: superbly put, Sir.
- Cardiakke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Northwest Florida Daily????
- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5good source (sometimes) for syndicated WSJ content

- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5good source (sometimes) for syndicated WSJ content
- bleedingcyan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4no fark?
- firepig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0to Muyoso and 81v,
i feel your pain but .... i am new to digg and pledge to help upgrade quality. i have a decade of experience on yahoo lists but am new to this game. i have started my own blog and will forward items to this site. i have started commenting here and just received 4diggs for what i said about torture (retired intelligence officer here). i probably read over a 100 news stories a day and will attempt to post one a day. i have advanced degrees in international relations, but my love is freedom. my yahoo list in fact is called stateofliberty. you can join but opt to receive no email. there are quite a few items in the archives, items that will especially appeal to anyone with libertarian leanings. nice to meet you all. my new blog is called firepig wisdom. so far i have written about child psychology, Iraq, and sci-fi books. - hutectro, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1HEY they forgot to put DRUDGE REPORT on that list. dumb ass
- rtphokie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1and we are supposed to care about this why?
- j0se, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1what about myspace.com?
- davenaff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK, so that everyone understands the list of 50 sites better: It is the list of the top 50 sites SUBMITTED by the top 100 Digg users.
It is not the top 50 websites promoted to the front page. Based on the comments and 'inaccurate' buries, I suspect that people are misinterpreting this post.
You can now find the raw data linked on the post if you want to dig in and do your own analysis. You'll also find the list of all the sites submitted recently by the top Diggers. - davenaff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This post was buried at about 630 diggs.
This related post about giantapplecore & nwfdailynews was also buried:
http://www.digg.com/tech_news/20_Diggs_in_30_Days_How_1_Digger_built_a_top_20K_Alexa_website - AndyManCan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How bout Google reader? any and all your rss feeds in one web application. I spend way to much time on 'The Google' now because of this fantastic web application.
- dweiner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think a lot of people will be shocked by these sites. Many would have presumed that 'geekier' sites would pop up higher... but it's the same old mainstream media sites who's content dominates. (Most of YouTube's compelling content is from MSM)
- quakerorts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've suspected that the majority of Diggers are centrist or liberal because I've seen very little of the right wing sites popping up, and I've only been called a "troll" once or twice. ;)
