- funknwankles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+76I am disgusted that Bonzi Buddy didn't make the list.
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -14/+66Right beside your fanboy train ticket.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49Actually, I would add the Iomega Zip to one of the all-time BEST products. Sure, they had problems with the Click of Death because the company dropped the ball on manufacturing QA about halfway through its life. But when the Zip appeared on the scene, there were only two options for removable media: 1.44 MB floppies and $100 40 MB SyQuest cartridges. The Zip was $25 for a 100 MB Zip disk. For companies the routinely mailed out large files (like publishers), this was HUGE.
- diggboredmerlin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38I can defiantly agree with the list..Microsoft Windows Millennium......makes me cry just thinking about it.
- Vironex, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38Does it feel good to so rebellious, you rebellious rebel, you? Hey, maybe I can make myself feel superior by pointlessly hating on a mainstream product, too! Yeah! ***** the iPod! Who needs a small, attractive music player that can hold all of my music and then some for a reasonable price? ***** that!
- DolphinGL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33Because the article is dated Friday, May 26, 2006 01:00 AM PDT which is about the time I last read it.
Major repost.
Also because only half of PS3 hate is deserved due to Sony's retarded marketting. The rest is just bandwagon hating from so many sheeple. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35No MSN Explorer?
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33IE6 was definitely worse than ME. Maybe not as a product, but the repercussions from IE6 will be felt for years yet to come. Designers, coders and users alike will continue to be plagued by websites that work in IE6 and nothing else, or work with most browsers except IE6. The last 5 years of IE6 ***** are nothing compared to the next 5 years of IE6 mixed with 7 mixed with capable engines like Opera, Gecko, WebKit/KHTML.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32I like how it says "America Online (1989-2006)" as if AOL died in 2006.
Well there are 34 hours left in 2006. ((Fingers Crossed)) - q3ctf4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32"The Zip drive is on there. Not surprising. That fad lasted a full ten minutes."
Way back in the late nineties the zip drive had its place. Cd burners were expensive and not to mention much much slower. The zip drive was the first thing *closest* to a portable hard drive. It was not a fad but rather a technology that lost the battle against cd burners. - zpuca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29If we're getting into Bonzi Buddy (good call), we should throw in Weatherbug too. It's about on the same level, and that damn chirping infested every dorm during my entire college experience.
- bunni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Wow, I can't argue with that list.
Windows ME
RealPlayer
AOL
SoftRAM
Sony BMG Music CDs - SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27This is an old list (Couple of months at least- I remember seeing it on Digg a while ago)
- somesthetic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26PS3 is neither the best nor the worst tech product.
damn fanboys. - SuperJason, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I went to a Microsoft convention once where the presenter (who worked for Microsoft), told us to rate his presentation on a scale of 1 to 10. 10 was awesome, and 1 was Windows ME. It was hilarious.
- modernhumorist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I'm pretty sure the reason why AOL and RealPlayer are up there is because they affected so many people. If we're looking for actually the worst technology, the list would be full of stuff you've never heard of and would be one boring article, wouldn't it?
So just calm down, take a deep breath, and remember that PC Magazine wants people to read their article. Putting the most idiotic tech products there would be more accurately to the title, but nobody would want to read about The Obscure Obscuritypants released in 1982.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21PC world listed the Iomega Zip Drive as the 15th worst tech product of all time, yet listed it as the 35th greatest gadget of the last 50 years.

***** this stupid site. - mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Defiantly agree? Like, you really don't want to agree, but you do anyway?
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20"I have it installed on my comp."
We know ;) - ajb2015, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19this article is from may, the zune wasn't out then.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Good 'ol Cue Cat.
Your barcode reading abilities made you such a great modding project after your company died. - Bansuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Bearowned,
Great idea with that link. Those types of lists are a nightmare to navigate, they should put their list on the list.
I'll be clicking "print" from now on. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Whats wrong w/ you?
I have it installed on my comp. The cute widdle monkey! - rolfeman02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think he was making fun of the title
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I agree with AOL and Real at the top of the list, but with a caveat that will undoubtedly get me buried. Both were once upon a time great products. Before Netscape and the web really took off in the mid 90s, AOL was my favorite BBS. It was faster, easier to use, and had a more attractive interface than Compuserve or Prodigy. Idiots still hadn't really discovered computers, so it was relatively free of the ignorance that permeates the service today. Except for the hourly fees they still charged it was an enjoyable service.
Early Real players revolutionized audio on the web. For the first time you didn't have to wait for audio to download to play it--even at 14.4kbs. The first players loaded quickly when needed and did one thing well--streaming audio. It was an essential plug-in to have on any Internet connected computer.
In the early years I never had a problem with either application taking over my computer, being hard to unintstall, or otherwise creating havoc on computers. Then both companies became greedy, and their software became spyware laden, system hogging, computer crashing pieces of *****. I think it's important to remember they were both revolutionary at one time though, as a cautionary tale. Nobody begrudges a company the opportunity to make a profit, but when you lose sight of your customers best interests you're doomed to eventual and profound failure. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15"hmm, most powerful console out, HDD with every unit, blu-ray player, linux support out of the box, free access to the gaming network, etc..
I don't see how the best console ever would fit on this list"
and is drowning like a dog with bricks tied to its feet. I think we'll be seeing it on 2011's *worst tech of 2000-2010*, or *Biggest marketing mistakes of the past 10 years* - hankins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12DIVX should have placed higher, imho.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIVX - codyman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13The iPod has revolutionized not on the tech world but also society in general.... go walk down a street and count how many of those white earbuds you see sitting in people's ears and then come back and call the iPod the worst tech... cause if it is, what, 70 million people, must be wrong
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yes but it goes to show the Jobs-less / Pre-iMac Apple verses Today's Apple with Jobs - and the effects he's had on the company
- Sicarul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Regarding Windows ME, i had problems with a fresh install, every time i turned my computer on, a different error appeared, colors swapped, text errors, strange things going on each time i did... ANYTHING...
- TiKoZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Hello there! I can't wait to meet you!
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Just say you didn't read it.
- samste, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10go you.
- posure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I didn't have a terrible experience with WinME, but XP was a huge step above all of the old Windows flavors in stability (even the betas).
- JayRod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Shortly after (Windows) Me appeared in late 2000, users reported problems installing it, getting it to run, getting it to work with other hardware or software, and getting it to stop running. Aside from that, Me worked great."
Sounds like my problems, but I just learned to live with it. I remember messing with system restore but also restored this virus that was wreaking havoc on my machine. - gr8one, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That list was disturbing to say the least. Reading about some of those things made me angry all over again.
- Cole2026, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8WinME, good times. I've never used an OS before that as a whole had a giant memory leak. :X
- vadche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9These guys are retarded
Comet Cursor is the ***** - Miniman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If you count The "(Dis)Honorable Mentions" Apple has 5 on that list.
More than any other company there. - rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7From #17: And in 1989, Apple offered a "portable" Macintosh--a 4-inch-thick, 16-pound beast that severely strained the definition of "laptop"...
I don't think this item belongs on the list, and the statement above is stupid. It doesn't strain the definition of laptop--in 1989 the definition of laptop didn't exist. My dad had one and loved it. He previously had to lug his Mac Plus with him if he needed a computer on a business trip, and could only use it if he had an outlet. And the Mac Portable had something like six hours of battery life! I wish my current laptop lasted that long. I agree that it wasn't a product for everyone, but it had a specific purpose and it served that purpose very well given the technological limitations of the time. - zpuca, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I am now forever in debt to PC World for naming AOL as the worst. If only this publication we're read by the less tech-savvy bulk of internet users who still fall prey to its BS "free hours" promotions.
Also good inclusion of that damned Mac Puck Mouse. That thing was absolutely miserable. - rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Wow i guessed like 6 of the top 10. Not hard since this list has been on digg at least once before.
- combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9AOL had 34 million subscribers at its peak, yet it made #1 on this list... ;)
- dougm68, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"iPod great, white earbuds crap. Worst sound quality ever."

"If we build it,
the lemmings will buy higher quality (more expensive)
accessories."
-S.Jobs
~I'ma lemming and loving it. - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Maybe because it's the most expensive console ever."
I believe the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer cost at launch, accounting for inflation, more than the 60GB PS3 does today.
Also I believe there was a "media peripheral/games console" system in the 80s which cost over $1000 and only had two games developed for it. Can't remember the name, though. - Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6PC World didn't even give themselves an honorable mention.
- gypsyjoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9iPod great, white earbuds crap. Worst sound quality ever.
- posure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What about NeoGeo? That has to be the most expensive console ever if you count the insane cost of the games.
