I'd rather look for a job that I enjoy doing. In my case it just happens to be tech. Lucky me. - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Then isn't that truly proof that they are the hottest jobs? :D
- draegloth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Well, I firmly believe there were no brains involved in this article, so sure.
If you look at their top job in america article, they list the director of technology at ELECTRONIC ARTS! I guess high tech slavery is a good business to be in... - plamoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, I had a job where i did 3,4,5 and 6 and got paid 8 bucks an hour...
- atariby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What a crappy article, no digg
- Thurloat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5sweet, i fall under 3,4, 5 AND 6 :D friggin eh go me!... looks like i wont have trouble finding a new job :)
- TeKoverride, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Lame... These are the same ''hottest'' jobs on every other list.
- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What happened to chemical engineering?
- Ifligus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"If you're looking for a job that's here to stay, here's a counterintuitive piece of advice: Look into tech."
Counter intuitive? Did you not get the memo about the tech boom? - zirtbow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Most of these are IT related... I wonder if they should have said "The 10 fast-growing jobs (In India)"
- KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually Hawaii gets A LOT of rain.
- DevlinD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@MrKite
You seemed to selectively miss the part where it goes on to say that only ***** work is outsourced and any development that is core to business strategy will stay in house.
Guess you WILL be holding on to that job for quite some time...as will I :) - Lzygenius, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Am I the only who thinks that this was a no-brainer?
- jumjum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I spoke to a chemical engineer that makes $80k a year. That's almost entrepreneur money.
- TeKoverride, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes indeed but I would to see this list get a bit more diverse, maybe a firefighter, professional athlete, demolition man, stripper.. you know, things of that sort.
- DevlinD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ah forget Iran, your friendly neighbors to the north in Alberta will happily rape you at the pump for your money.
- kidlinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Tech? Right.. Some of the best, most abundant, most stable well paying jobs right now are trades. There is an enormous dearth of tradespeople these days, most notably in western Canada which is growing at a rediculous pace. Huge construction projects have come to a halt or have been scrapped entirely because of the lack of labour.
As a tradesman you can work independantly, set your own terms, and it's possible to see six figures. And these jobs can't be outsourced.
Why trades are constantly overlooked is a mystery to me. When I was in high school, I wish they'd been presented to me as a post-secondary option. - walugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"If you're looking for a job that's here to stay, here's a counterintuitive piece of advice: Look into tech. "
That sentence embodies the whole article. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought it was funny that both software writers and college professors are on the list.
College Professors make about $51,000/yr.
Write Software in your underwear at home. $76,000/yr
Hmmm, What to do? - black13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeck ... i notice in many of the tech job descriptions. they say must work long hours on weekends. so i wonder really what is "real" wage. if you making 60k but your working 60/72 hours a week. no thanks. i want to find a job where i make enough and i have some time for myself.
- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2that took a whole five minutes?
- bmson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In US...
This does not have to be the case in other countries. - ryanknapper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"And if you're looking for a raise, think about this: According to economists, jobs that are the most in demand are also the ones that usually see the highest growth in income."
Well golly! Didn't see that one coming. Thank you Owen Thomas, Business 2.0 Magazine online editor, and Rob Kelley, CNNMoney.com staff writer! - Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd like to see a list from 5 years ago and see how they did. Ya these are all no brainers...jeez tech field and medical...hmm..
Writing this is a hard job. "Let me see in 5 years..Network Engineers and Nurses will be the hot thing" Like being a weather man in Hawaii. "It will be sunny and warm today", Tomorrow "Sunny and Warm" Day after that..... - SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as a Software Developer, I'm grossly underpaid :(
- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think ryan is looking for a phrase like "sack of *****"
- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1almost, but not quite. by and large, it's mostly impossible to move your company's network or database overseas. bloody load of good that does, you see. all the employees computers are over here, so the network or db admin has to be here too. plus, you've got your security guys. you can't have joe blow in hyderabad handling security for your server in san jose
- banjk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey! I'm number 13...whee!
- adnauseam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a list of so called "best" jobs, all of which are under 75K and riquire nites and weekends....count me out. :P
- sickaltima, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
another story on 10 hot upcomming careers
http://www.jobsnake.com/articles/index.cgi?openarticle&8551&Ten_Hottest_Careers - carlvjack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RE:adnauseam
You have to move out of your parents house sooner or later :) - daltonvoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Fastest compared to what?. No growth? Job growth will fall off a cliff in the upcoming years. The United States is in the eye of an economic perfect storm. Everyone needs to wake up. Things are not good.
- Run4yourlives, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those of us old enough to remember the eighties as they became the nineties know the big issue with trades: they come and go with the state of the economy.
All of what you said is true, but keep in mind one of the first places to get hit in any recession is construction. You'll need to save some of those six figures for the down-times. Not sure what the near future holds for say, Vancouver (with the Olympics and all). - rjohnson99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool for me.....so far I am 1,3, and 5 at the same time.
- Dudemullet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny how all these shall I say "nerdy" jobs are on top of the list, it makes me pretty happy since I too could fall into categories 1,3,4,5, and 6. Reminds me of a shirt that says "You'll be working for me soon".
- Borramakot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Most importantly, retiring baby boomers will deplete the ranks of experienced tech workers, leaving openings for up-and-comers."
How many baby boomers work for google? Microsoft? IBM? - Bara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heh, add China to that too soon enough.
Bara out - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The "hottest job" has a weak salary, If you want real money head for Technological Engineering, weather it be computers, robotics, or anything technology related.
- jgarland79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Network systems and data communications analyst is on top because those are the guys that make the VoIP magic. Right?
- Kablakistan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Glad to see college instructor on there. I wouldn't have expected it.
- MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, but did you read this?
Pros:
• Independent consulting work is a possibility.
• There's intense competition between businesses for the best software developers, which creates more opportunities and higher pay.
Cons:
• The project-oriented nature of the work can mean evening and weekend work.
• Software development work is increasingly being outsourced overseas.
"Software development work is increasingly being outsourced overseas."
So I guess you won't have that great job for long lol - Obsydian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Where are the comments? Interesting read. I'm surprised with the physical therapy one. I know the medical field is often expanding, but I never thought about that field. Lord knows we have enough psychologists already too.
- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1all the open tech positions i've seen in the DC area confirm what i read in this article
- ryanknapper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This doesn't surprise me. With Americans getting fatter all the time, they'll need someone to keep them going.
"How do I unfat?"
"How about you stop eating crap, you fat @#%?"
"No! Now move my legs around." - OfARevolution23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Good news for me. In a few years I'll have my MIS and hopefully by then the demand for database administrators will still exist.
- groffhibbitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well, college professors probably get laid, and the guy sitting home in his underwear never even sees a real women (even if they guy goes in to work to do his sw job).
- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0No wonder most of my college professors are idiots, and half don't even speak English. Why am I paying $27,000 a year again?
Bara out - Bara, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I got paid 11 :D
Bara out - Veretax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Isn't this a dup of an old article? I could have sworn I saw a much better column on this on the same site just a month ago. http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/top50/index.html The order may be different and this one may be in a slightly different order, but most of the same jobs are on that list.
