- randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18EA should be #1 worst. They have no live phone lines, no email, and the support form on their site is crap. I have sent a dozen messages and still no response after two weeks. I am demanding a refund of my purchase, but there is no one to demand it to.
- psylence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Sounds like mission accomplished from their POV.
- tsf5000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Best Buy is a piece of ***** company. They gave my credit card number to Entertainment Weekly and I started getting billed. When I called Entertainment Weekly's 800 number on my statement, the woman I talked to said I wasn't the first person to complain. I haven't been back to Best Buy since.
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23How did Dell not make the worst list? They get a mention but really, they are the worse than Best Buy or Home Depot by far. In my experience at least.

http://digg.com/tech_news/Dell_May_Have_The_Worst_Customer_Service_Ever - BoneyB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Well they do insult Dell when they praise Apple. If they were to list all the culprits, the article would have to be "the 50 best, and the 500,000 worst companies for customer service"
- crombenevolant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I shop at Home Depot all of the time and have found them to be much better than Lowes (at least in my town). I wonder how much of this is based on a few bad stores vs a nationwide trend?
On a different note, I was really surprised to not see Costco in the top 10. They are amazing. They will take anything (literally anything) back, no questions asked. - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"Cox customer service is NOT to be praised. I was SEVEN minutes late coming home one day a repairman was scheduled to show up (appt was from 2-5, I arrived home at seven minutes past) and they had already left and charged me for a no show."
If they wait seven minutes for every guy like you, then every guy like me who is home on time for the appointment has to wait. They SHOULD move on if you're not home. It's only fair to the other customers. Your loss.
I say any company who shows up at the scheduled time deserves a thumbs up. - JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Dugg down? Pizza haters.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I'm actually glad to see "Papa John's" on that list. Pizza- unlike specific computers or telephone/internet services is something that anyone can enjoy. Besides- they really do have great service.
- psylence, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I dunno, I must admit I _love_ Cox. I can't get enough Cox. In fact, when we moved here, I actively seeked out Cox. So far so good.
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14"But props to Apple for making a unix based operating system user friendly. The open Linux community could take a hint. "
- maybe if Apple had to support more than one hardware configurations, and not the ones they specify, they would have more user complaints - saichele, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11best:

8. Albertson's
9. MCI
10. Circuit CIty - PPoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I was pretty surprised to see Home Depot worse than Lowes. For such a competitive market, Home Depot has to be losing customers because of this...
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Dear spammer,
Die screaming in a fire.
Regards,
Me - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Google has great customer service, in what way? They don't really "make" anything I can "buy" and I can't call them up or talk to them face to face, nor can I go to the Google store on the corner and browse...Google stuff on the shelves. Someone please explain.
- exobyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I noticed GE was on there. I had a flourescent helix lamp that worked for the first 10 sec, the died. I still had the receipt, sent it in with the UPC, and they sent back a cupon for a free replacement.
Lived up to their end of the deal, and I'll probably seriosuly consider them over a generic brand because of the good experience. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I throw in my vote to block you spamma!
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6demand a refund from the retailer, let them deal with EA. If they won't give you a refund then ask for an exchange, then return the unopened copy to another store/after shift change.
- VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7it makes me happy when people recognize Best Buy for ***** service. I worked there for a few months in high school, I was fired because I refused to lie to customers.
These days I keep a warranty plan on my iPod. Whenever it gets too scratched up or a new model comes out, I let it sit in the microwave long enough to fry it and immediately return it for a new one. I've been doing this since the 2nd gen, still on the same warranty plan that I just keep renewing. Because of the way I have witnessed managers at Best Buy demand their employees lie to sell warranties to people who don't need them, I have no moral qualm over scamming them on those same warranties.
But maybe I'm just a bad person. - BigManOnCampus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7No Verizon listed as one of the 10 worst = no digg.
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Is it any surprise that most telco companies are on this list ???
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm surprised CostCo wasn't on their "good" list. They have a decent selection of items, good prices and a no-questions-asked money back return policy. I've yet to meet someone who had bad things to say about them aside from the occasionally long return lines.
- Reziarfg, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14But props to Apple for making a unix based operating system user friendly. The open Linux community could take a hint. Oh, I'm no fanboy btw, I'm still not buying a mac on the basis that every mac owner I've encountered has been a pompous conceited prick. Nothing personal, I just don't want to be seen in that crowd. :
- adharris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5At least in my area Home Depot is much better than Lowes. I recently hurt my primary hand so i couldn't grip anything. I had to get some concrete and lumber at Lowes (it was closest and the patio was going to fall over) I asked for some assistance getting the stuff into my truck. 20 minutes later I did it myself, tearing out 2 stitches. I drove away with blood all down my arm. Good Times.
- SteelGator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The real #1 is USAA, hands down. They have consistently ranked at the top of J.D. Power's surveys for best customer service, and in 2002 they won the J.D. Power Chairman Award for superior customer service.
I've been a customer since 1993, and have consistently received amazing service. There is just no comparison. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Remember PriceRite? Why wasn't that on there?
- converge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4From my experience, I would have the worst as:
1. Dell
2. Comcast
... - actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Cox leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
- bntphoretwunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i knew before i even clicked on the link that aol would be the #1 worst. i have never used them, nor has anyone i know closely, but i've heard nothing but horror stories. also, i work at a call center for a major bank, and close to 15% (seriously) of every dispute that i have filed has been against them and their shady shenanigans.
- sotopheavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I bought a laptop from Dell and there was a really bad problem with the display that happened from time to time. After a painstakingly long process of being on hold and following the instructions to turn off and back on the laptop 2 times... one day I actually managed to videotape the error and asked the customer service person if she wanted to see the problem for herself so her or her manager could replace my new dell. Well she couldn't do that because they "don't have internet access." They told me since the problem was not currently happening that it might be fixed!
I called back a week later when it happened again and finally got them to replace it. They sent me a new one and I switched out the hard drives. It came with a $100 video card for free and I had integrated (Motherboard/*****) graphics originally. I also got a slightly faster processor T2800 instead of T2600
The key when dealing with any company is persistence. Yea it was a pain in the butt, but yea they hooked me up later! - bradford, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Best Buy deserves their position on the list. Poor work environment + pressure to make immediate sales rather than build customer loyalty result in a bad experience for the customer.
Also, no Wal-Mart in the top 10 worst? o_O - cmiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@appetite: i agree. nothing worse than dealing with 'geniuses' and the apple tech support. i realize that macs are made to be user friendly... but that doesn't mean that everyone who walks in with an apple computer problem isn't technically inclined. perhaps their style of service is aimed at their common user... but it drives me up a wall!
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You have got to be kidding me. They obviously didn't survey AZ Cox customers. Worst customer service ever. Their stance is pretty much: "If you don't like it, go somewhere else. Oh, wait, there is nobody else!"
I've got DirecTV and Vonage now, but Cox still has me by the balls with broadband. - appetite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Apple customer service sucks. Their products are good, but if you get a lemon, good luck. I had to send my Powerbook in for service 3 times before they finally got it right. I had to buy a backup hard drive, too, because Apple charges $50 for a backup. Yea, that amounted to a month without a computer and a lot of hassle. I had AppleCare, too.
Good products, ***** customer service. - kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3discount tires gave me a cheap tire that actually lasted longer then one that had cost me twice as much.
but I didn't get any sexual favors, only that stupid, yet tasty french vanilla cappuccino from the cool little espresso maker they had... I would love to have an other... - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cox in Las Vegas blows. after my broadband went down their "tech" first tried to snow me about the problem being with my wireless router, then he tries to tell me that all of my PCs suddenly lost the ability to "connect to the internet" at once, from a virus. When I mentioned that I could easily access other connections in the neighborhood he hung up.
- Supertrout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I should go rotate my tires.....
- nathan1313us, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was a TSR for calltech who was hired by COX communications. I can say that they are in no way a good support company. Most of the people on the phones were either drunk or stoned. None of them new a damn thing about what they were doing. They would hire anyone who new what a computer even was.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The worst list should have been in reverse order so that Apple and AOL show up as POLAR opposites.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just recently I bought a new MacBook Pro from the Apple Store nearby. I brought it home, and after two hours of messing with it I realized it was a lemon. I stormed back to the Apple Store in the rain to complain about how I was not going to send this in and wait a week to have it fixed, I was getting a new one damnit.
So I walked up to the Genius Bar, briefly explained the problem, and they took a look at it. Without even mentioning anything more the guy at the counter called someone in the back to bring me a new MacBook Pro, and an iPod Shuffle free of charge.
Call this a fanboy rave if you want, but there aren't too many companies that provide this level of customer service. - terrya64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very happy to see my employer at # 2. I agree fully. Hardly a day goes by that I'm not doing something asap for a customer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Echoing your statements, Apple must have gotten better because they used to really suck.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt when my PowerBook 165c spent more time being repaired than I did using it during the first year. I gave up and sold the silly thing and upgraded to a PowerBook 5300c. Big mistake.
My first 5300c was dead on arrival. Even though it was obviously under warranty but Apple gave me the constant "but you dont have AppleCare" run around. I went through 2 more replacement machines, each of which fell apart (crappy case design)., each time required hours on the phone to get it fixed. The day after the warranty expired (the original warrenty, Apple wouldn't extend it based on the last repair date, even for just 90 days), I got rid of it.
The only Apple product I've bought since has been 2 iPods. I'm glad to hear that things have improved. - atbnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Really with some places it's hit or miss with customer service. Sometimes you get a CSR who knows what the hell they are doing and others who don't have a clue. VerizonWireless CSRs have always been good to me. They are pleasant to talk to and are knowledgeable for the few things I've had to call them about. I'd also rank American Express up there as knowing what the hell they are doing, even their 1-800-india reps are pretty much on top of their game.
- bugninja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How is Google in the "best" list? How do you even contact them if you do have a problem??
- dotdan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google shouldn't even be on that list. The only substantial fact they gave was that they add new features.
I can attest that they have horrible customer service.. and I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has been kicked out of AdSense without any way to talk to a live employee. - jased, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree on Home Depot, I ordered through them two new doors and openers, to also be installed. When they forget to tell me they couldn't deliver for over 2 months (when no one would be at home for the install) I canceled. They didn't tell the garage door company who keep leaving me voice mails telling me they would like to do the install.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh, what a surprise, it's a list of US companies.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've dealt with Google for years, both with AdWords and AdSense, and other features they offer for web developers, like Analytics and Sitemap.
They've always been pretty awesome; great attitude, always willing to spend time getting everything right that isn't, or giving us suggestions about certain things. They even sent us two free shirts just because. - tofu713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They need to add T-Mobile to this list for good customer service. They've always been kind on the phone, no strange charges... and if something wrong ever happened (like poor reception, etc...) they own up to the problem and issue service credits when needed. They actually consider how long you've been a customer and recognize that when you want a new phone, etc.
No i don't work for them... i wish i did.
not a shareholder/investor... tho i might consider it.
yes i am a customer. - zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"I love Cox", "I actively seeked out Cox", "Cox blows"...
Sounds like you guys have more going on with that company than customer service... -
