- gullyben, on 11/21/2008, -2/+45whenever one of my friends tried to type this girl's name into his phone using T9 it turned into "slut."
easter egg courtesy of a broken hearted T9 programmer - NathanielJ, on 11/21/2008, -2/+28Some interesting ones, but I can't help but wonder how certain entries like #44 made the list:
"44. X-Men: David Hayter: David Hayter, who wrote the film's screenplay, appears toward the end as a police officer who gets killed by one of Magneto's goons."
That's about as interesting as any of 60 pieces of information that can be found on any movie's "trivia" page on IMDb. - logiksan, on 11/21/2008, -1/+19All those little things on DVDs and they can't mention that Memento had hidden the entire movie recut in chronological order on the second disc? That's pretty much the mother of DVD easter eggs.
- douglasr007, on 11/21/2008, -0/+16What pages?
- bokononrock, on 11/21/2008, -1/+17dugg for one page.
- AssistedYogi, on 11/21/2008, -1/+13I wouldn't call half of this list easter eggs. The fact that Judy Nails is reference to "Judy is a Punk" isn't an easter egg, it's just a cool reference. The ones where you have to go out of your way to do something to see something else, those are easter eggs.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+10Saddest one i ever saw was a Borland C++ 4.1 (Not the C++ Builder series), where it shows a photo of one of the developers who worked on the product but who died before it was released.
The Excel flight simulator was pretty cool/ - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+8They have the guy from Morrowind who talks about naked liches and where to find them, but there is another guy named "Rolf the Uber" on an island somewhere in the middle of nowhere. You can talk to him about a bunch of stuff that never made it into the game, like multiplayer.
- oldhick, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5He had to get to 101 alright! We know that the key to a winning blog is the odd numbered list.
- V1ncent, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5Article way too long for the ADHD Internet ag--LOOK COOKIES
- Rhendal, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6Where's Adventure on this list?
- Ruqsaq, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4no it was spy hunter hidden in like Excel 97... its not on the list... also the Castaway easteregg with Zemekis saying there was a satellite phone in the FedEx box all along is not on the list.
- spikewilbury, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4The Aladdin Mickey Mouse ears wasn't just for decoration. On the Genesis, if you made his head line up with it you got a free life. Yes, I had Aladdin on my Genesis.
- Groady, on 11/21/2008, -0/+451 is wrong. There is a clock with someone hanging off it yes but explicitly Doc Brown, no.
- JakeyG14, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3I'm pretty sure half of the people who own LBP own this as they get pissed off at the loading screens (icon for initial loading screen and sackboy for level loading screen) and start randomly button pressing.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3No love for the Half-Life 2 garden gnome?
- theOster, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3Winamp - 902 RPM
- danhauk, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3Could also be a longer name as some letters don't appear if not in sequence but you continue typing.
I have a gay friend named Stefan and each time I would type his name the "a" wouldn't register, but if I kept typing the "n" would appear, making the word "Queen" - JakeyG14, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3*inserts your mum's name*
- Elranzer, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2How do you access that one?
- Skeith3294, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2why didnt they put the easter egg of a certain other super hero running on set as a gag. its in one of the menus you press left and a rose symbol appears. its pretty funny.
- iamnobody8614, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2Valve kind of hands you that one by making it an achievement to send the gnome into space (annoying as hell, by the way, dragging that damn thing through pretty much the entire episode).
- FalseProphecy, on 11/21/2008, -5/+7Easter isn't a one time thing, Mr. Poster man.
- bzaks, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Only 650 :-(
- elfprince13, on 11/21/2008, -2/+4without reading the list. Excel Flight Simulator. and didn't Word have a racing game at some point?
- Jektal, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2A little tiny one I noticed the other night: In Little Big Planet's initial loading screens you can press X to make the sackboy (or other icon, depending on the loading phase) jump.
- Cyborg326, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2The wow pop culture references aren't easter eggs. The secret worlds on the other hand are, like the emerald dream, the islands and mt hyjal (with the sign). videos are on youtube.
Also for the GC there's multiple alternate jingles that will play, I think it has to do with the number of controllers that are plugged in. - ZeroCubed, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2The Mac one doesn't work. Is it all version of Mac OS X or only a specific one? (I'm on Leopard)
The Firefox one was nice hehe. - fedak, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2This is dating myself, but the coolest easter egg was in the apple II verson of karateka:
The Apple II version came on one apparently single-sided disk. As an easter egg, a second version of the game was placed on the flip side of the disk. If one put the disk into the drive upside-down, the game played identically to the first side, except that the game was displayed vertically flipped. According to Mechner, this was done as a joke, causing naive users to call tech support and ask why the game was upside-down. Invariably, they would receive the reply, "take the disk out, insert it right-side up, and reboot".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karateka_(video_game) - mizatt, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2The Excel "Hall of Tortured Souls" was one of the cooler ones that I've run across

(1.8.1) - CrushThemTorg, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2I couldn't watch an X-Men movie knowing David Hayter wrote it. I just imagined every line being read in Solid Snake's voice.
- cassaffousth, on 01/01/2009, -0/+1Thanks to "Related by keywords" I have found it's duplicated from http://digg.com/software/The_101_Coolest_Easter_Eg ...
- TPain07, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1my 2 favorites:

what in the blazes?????? - Nidy1, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Surprised this one didn't make it from Halo: CE.
http://www.eeggs.com/items/47394.html - Jektal, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1So, the s must have come from 7, which also gives us p,q,r,s
Seems plausible, plenty of 4-lettered p, r, or s names I suppose. I think we can ignore q.
The l would be from 5, which just gives us j,k,l, a bit more limiting for a second letter, especially all being consonants
The u from 8, also allowing t,u,v, which is troublesome because by now we really need a vowel....
And end with t, from 8 as well.
What was her name? Plut? Pluv? Pkut? Rluv? - cassaffousth, on 01/01/2009, -0/+1http://digg.com/software/The_101_Coolest_Easter_Eg ...
- CrushThemTorg, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Antler!
(Mac nerd points for whoever gets this.) - Philbert, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1A lot of these movie ones aren't really easter eggs. Just a little hidden thing in the movie. Now controlling the cursor on the DVD menu in an unexpected way to make something happen is another story. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within has a bunch of these cool DVD menu easter eggs.
- svivian, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1There are tons of easter eggs on the Simpsons DVDs. All listed here: http://www.simpsoncrazy.com/dvd.php
- Akaziel, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Okay so they mention the X-Men movie DVD but don't mention the Rose?
One of the menus, I believe under special features, has a rather conspicuous rose design along the side. If you click on it, you get a blooper outtake. It's where the X-Men are all running into the base of the Statue Of Liberty, and just as they stop and someone's about to say something dramatic, someone dressed as Spiderman comes running in behind them, stops, then pretends to get all embarassed. "Whoa...I am totally in the wrong movie! Sorry, guys...sorry..." and he backs out of the set, as the entire cast is in tears laughing. You could tell none of them knew it was going to happen. - Elranzer, on 11/21/2008, -1/+1Download anything from Wii's Virtual Console, and if you get Fire Mario as the status bar animation, you can make him shoot fireballs with the A button.
- TheInformer, on 11/21/2008, -3/+3Any list of video game Easter Eggs that doesn't have Atari's Adventure in it isn't credible.
- robish518, on 11/21/2008, -0/+0Buried for the inclusion of nearly 40 movies in a list about software easter eggs... your video games list didn't include any from duke nukem either... you suck!!
- Elranzer, on 11/21/2008, -1/+1"GameCube: Different Jingle: Plug in four controllers, hold down all four āZā buttons and turn on the GameCube. A different jingle will play when the logo appears."
... is also inaccurate. You can do it with only one controller plugged in (still hold down Z). It doesn't work on the Wii, as the Wii bypasses the Gamecube startup animation. - ncapone, on 11/21/2008, -4/+2Dugg for Marathon
- rockon4life45, on 11/21/2008, -3/+1that halo 2 one is interesting i wonder if there are any other halo easter eggs sense bungie at least attempts to keep some of them under of wraps
- Defiant001, on 11/21/2008, -4/+2Very cool winamp easter egg, I ended up playing that for a while. I got 993 rpms as my highest, anyone able to get higher?
