- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11A great place to house the 15 year helicopter model.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Amazing. Its like something straight out of Myst.
- bdeisgn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9You're right, it's floating in midair. None of those wires are attached to trees at all, nope. It's magical.
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8You mean "No Homers".
But they're allowed one. - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Awesome! Just like the Ewoks! ...wait...
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8it's a HOUSE in a TREE. better? I digg it!
- discoloda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Now if i can only figure out how to get in... there must be a clue somwhere around here...
- Raldikuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was thinking the same thing, but I'm guessing it has to do with the fiberglass shell... Still seems outrageous.
- pype, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9for 45 Grand it better have a gold-plated 'No Girls Allowed' plaque
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Imagine trying to get into that thing when you're drunk....scary.
Pretty damn awesome though. - YoctoYotta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hah, follow that link . . . if you think $40,000 is a lot, that's not even for the one they show in the articles picture. The one in the picture STARTS at $150,000. I'm unsold.
- svidrod, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9i don't see how that costs $45,000
- patrickweber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm waiting for the poor soul who incorrectly connects it to a tree on the side of a mountain.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'd rather build a DIY treehouse, it would be more fun to build, and way cheaper than that.
- leptonbill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The guy probably isn't producing them at a rate that would allow for a cheaper price. It's just like any cottage industry like this, theres probably a considerable amount of manual work that has yet to be automated as well as parts that are not mass produced leading to a fairly high cost.
- bdeisgn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Hahhahha. It's expensive for 45K...wow, that sky sure is blue for being blue.
- stalinvlad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3$45000 is what I pay my maid, per a week

The souths new mobile home? let's see a tornado ***** with this bad boys. :) - ah802, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It doesn't, the unit pictured is over 100 grand... he's selling fiberglass knock-offs for 40k
- Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2anyone else see the inside and think of a hobbit hole?
- dan.grover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, look at the Eyrn one -- how can it possibly be that big? It's barely as big as the guy getting into it in one picture, and it apparently has like two floors or something.
- leptonbill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Could you imagine a colony of spheres? Once they make bridgestunnels and bathrooms it will be AWESOME!
- darrenford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Have you priced spiral staircases ?
Treehouse: $3,000
Staircase: $42,000 - ojk007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saw this on a travel show, a few nights ago.
- Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did anyone else think of Morrowind when seeing those things?
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With some long sticks I could make it a really big pinata :)
- thecolorme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ya this is cool but EXPENSIVE! I saw it featured on Discovery Channel's "Daily Planet" a few months back.
- brownb2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This will be fun, they'll be out camping in it one night (or just leave the kids in it cos they're "safe"). That night a bear figures out how to climb the steps to it.....
- dropkick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember seeing a show about this on HGTV or one of those type channels w/ my girlfriend. Very interesting house.
- dielawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1daaaaaamn i want one
- Oxidizer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For 45k$ you get an interesting tree house, but for just 180k$ more you can build the worlds most expensive Newton's pendulum.
- lama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://www.freespiritspheres.com/products.htm
- everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this should be bigger. i mean, it's nice inside, but not a whole lot of leg room. though that's the only thing about spheres, the bigger the flat room oyu want inside, the bigger the whole thing has to be.
- maks327, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If this treehouse is a-swingin, don't come a ringin! (the doorbell? I dunno)
- KarmikTrance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats been around a while. You could build one of those for like.. what 6k? You could do the fiberglass yourself with some type of epoxy.. Build a shell out of wood and canvas over it then paint the epoxy and let it dry, vwhallah. Go to a junkyard and steal some old RV furniture, clean it up and modify it. You can get custom made pieces of Lexan so those window's wouldn't be real hard.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wonder if it comes in silver...

(If I were an Ewok, I'd watch out...) - orangecstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a sphere, Eryn, on my property. It's the one that we use to showcase freespiritshperes and let TV Crews film. I cant hope to explain what a wonderful feeling it is to be in a sphere and leave the "real world" behind for awhille. It truly is an amazing experiance. Yes, they are expensive, but they take a lot of work to build and put up...thats why the fibreglass ones are being built...and also why people like us are renting them out by the night...that way it's an experiance most people can afford.
- unclewilco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0old news...but they are great. technically not a shed, but we allow all sorts.
http://www.readersheds.co.uk/readersheds/share.cfm?SHARESHED=464 - Dugout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm. Brings new meaning to the word "Podcast"
- orangecstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you want more photos? www.orangecstar.deviantart.com look through my gallery...there are quite a few that i have taken.
- gmwatkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Give me 45 grand and ill show you a treehouse! You can't even (comfortably) get a lady friend in there. Talk about an outrageous price per square foot. I'll give it 64 sq. ft. usable....that come s out to 703$ per sq. ft. So that is roughly the same price as a 3 million dollar, 4000 square foot home. Imagine what you could do with that....
- everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i was just thinking that! it's like the start of the village of riven. that's an awsome design.
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Tree house located in British Columbia - gorgeous country.
@digitalgopher: this is a magnificent post - I'm in awe of both the setting and the engineering of this sphere. The additional pics are great.
And for desert? A gallery of witty, smart-ass commentary to make ya laugh.
I love Digg. - Mushroonaut, on 07/11/2008, -1/+1Poor tree.
With all that setting, it should be set on a pole or something. - offcamber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What tree-hugger could afford that?
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That was my first thought as well. Myst - ahhh, how I did love that Windows 3.1 game :D
- max22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey, I know this guy! My stepdad works at the same shop complex that this guy builds his spheres in. He's a pretty cool guy.
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Without an external vented bathroom, it is just about worthless. I don't much care how much money it is.
Cyborg
