Text Message Saves Men Lost at sea for 22 days

cbc.ca — Three Australian men lost at sea for more than three weeks survived on raw squid and rainwater, and called for help by cellphone, police said Wednesday. The men conserved the batteries in their cellphones by keeping them turned off until they had a strong enough signal to send text messages to family.

I take his comment to mean "That really sucks, how ironic that they were so close to where they started." And it says they were found several kilometers from the island where they started (Murray Island). I guess you don't go far when you drift at sea.

    That's the post that you all dugg down? Why? Whats with all the hostility towards it? He's merely stating how amazing, to him, it is that they were only several kilo's from where they started after all that time... I fail to see how that warrants all the above hostility.

    And I understand that they people might not have been as prepared as they could have been, but they went through something horrible.

  • liuite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1even those with marine radio and compass get lost..I came across a powerboater on Lake Michigan who asked which way to Chicago...normally on a clear day you can see the skyscrapers from more than 50 miles away..the poor soul didn't even know roughly what point on the compass Chicago was from where he departed...I doubt he knows how to read a compass or a nautical map
