one thing I love about high school girls is that as I get older they stay the same age
/high school senior - bittermang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+59This headline is some kind of devious trap. I don't trust it one bit.
- noobeffect, on 10/10/2007, -2/+57"I"m Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC."
- Rosamilia, on 10/10/2007, -5/+52IBM, go ahead and take a seat right over there
I'm from dateline NBC.. - mozzep, on 10/10/2007, -4/+49yea, because it would be creepy if you said, "/ 50 year old man"
- 10goto10, on 10/10/2007, -2/+43Call me sick, but my inner geek and my inner pervert high-fived when I read that title
- getrealnow, on 10/10/2007, -3/+36Today girls, we are going to learn difference between the female and male connectors, and how they are used in harmony.....
I wouldn't know - tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -1/+26Still doesn't beat the Russian sex camp.
- ChristianMagic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20The description makes it sound like we're preparing these 30 girls for later use.
On a side note, am I the only one who finds it funny that some girls using the internets is news? (I know how rare it is but it's still hilarious) - EuphopiaB, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20Why is the lack of women in the field an issue?
I'm all for giving people equal opportunities, but is our goal to eventually have every field, classroom, and building filled with exactly the correct proportions of race and sex? Maybe ( oh my God ) women, biologically, have a reason to be less interested in the technological fields. This doesn't mean we should discourage them or anything, I just don't see it as a "problem". I mean we aren't checking to make sure 13% of each classroom is black. - ani625, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16ibm = no pics , i guess
- 89vision, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Wait till you try the hex brownies they made!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I'm not a sexiest, but what does binary wristbands have to do with technology? Girls are never gonna learn anything from that.
- SSCrow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14And then a Class on Master and Slave Drives.
- Narwaffle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Don't know why, but the first thing I thought of was this. http://www.homestarrunner.com/tgs11.html
Go figure. - Gir53457, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I dugg this article, so does that make me a pedophile?
- SharkyTech, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I on the other hand, am sexiest...
(leave out the 'i' next time, to avoid misunderstandings)
Also, how does pointing out the stupidity of wristbands at a technology camp make you sexist?? - knutert, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I for one feel that the workplace atmosphere is a lot more pleasant with at least some females present (not just because of the obvious reasons...).
Also, females often have a slightly different perspective on things than males, which may be important in work related matters as well. - Mitchbones, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Why do we need to get junior high girls excited about technology? Programming/Network Sys Admin is a mans job.
- kickelephant, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I'll bet ten dollars that you are single.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Most likely they learn binary in the process, or at least what binary is. Also, I doubt the entire camp is devoted to making bracelets and second life projects. "Fun" things like that are included so they have a good time, they are trying to draw them into the industry not drive them away.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I like having some women in the workplace, it kind of balances things out. Its not a problem though, I mean no ones "checking" to make sure there are an equal amount, this is just an opportunity for them. Im sure there are male tech camps out there as well.
- Xanium4332, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5let the digg votes decide.
- MoofTheStoof, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6No. Women are sorely underrepresented in technical/scientific fields of study in the US. Programs like this are helping correct the problem. (Of course, sci/tech itself is under attack in the US but it's by the same people who'd like to keep women barefoot and pregnant so this helps on that front, as well...)
- bodd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5being from the UK I'm not sure how old junior high is but I think the key bit here is 'JUNIOR'.
- xenixninja, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I agree. Let them choose by themselves.
And to knutert and eyefork, I would like you to work at an office that is dominated by females and tell me if you still like it. Women at the office is nice, they can manage to keep most of the monkeys quiet and cut down on macho talk.
But, if there are too many women you will, trust me I have experienced it myself, you will have a working place bombarded with drama, rumors, silly disputes and so on.
Yes, we men can be silly sometimes, but we try to be professional at work. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4JAIL BAIT
- cyberdash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'd say this story will do well just because of the first two words in the title.
- 15thPD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5You had me at "Teen Girls Play."
- cdmarcus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Read the summary... it says "junior high school girls"... nice one, toppgun :)
- sdaf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4.. coming from Mr. Assman :/
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Junior High School, also known as Middle School .. is usually grades 6 - 8. (ages ~12 - 14)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I really don't know about this one.
- arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The only reason this story made it to the front page is because the title says "teen girls". The story itself isn't even that interesting.
- ruthless34, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That is not being geek. These are giving geeks a bad name.
The name for that is dork. - ruthless34, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Why does money have to wasted to teach these girls when they won't do anything useful with it in the future?
I'm sick having all the resources to force girls into technology. If they don't like it leave them alone. You never learn until you want to. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Hopefully theyll remember to plug in their xboxs.
- razrielle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbQzoAYYoPc
- wirerat1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7This is a good marketing/advertising move on the part of IBM. It will get a knee-jerk positive response from women and everyone in education. The funny thing is though, why do we only care about encouraging women into fields like technology? I don't see us up in arms about the fact that there aren't enough males in the education system. Oh wait, that's right, men are deviants and can't be trusted. I hate this feminist society we've crafted over the past 30 years. It is unfortunate my son will be denied opportunities merely because we feel compelled to silence the victim mentality of the modern feminist. More grievous atrocities created by our society would include slavery, the mass genocide we conducted against American Indians, but for whatever reason, we need more women in technology. Yeah, that's best.
- rohan2kool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3geeky girls coming back to making bracelets and their silly tea parties. that is what makes this story sexist.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I'm all for equal opportunity; but we are presently building a Generation of Ignored Boys. We are encouraging girls -- are we encouraging boys? We build special camps, designed to their sex -- are we (honestly) doing this for boys (thats sexist!).
We have swung the pendulum so far that we are actively disadvantaging boys.

/Admiral Akhbar. - ruthless34, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Sir, I could not agree more with you. Our society is being pussified.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Its good because it brings more females into the industry, its bad because I cant go to the camp. I want a bracelet too eh
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I think they should totally be learning some C++ while theyre there.
- RaptorNv25, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Buried as lame.
- jtb4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1what the ***** are you talking about? laws about pictures of girls..... did you mean laws about children or do you think somehow girls are more protected by the law than boys?
- jtb4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd hit it.
