- atdigg, on 10/10/2007, -7/+149what's so nice about it? I use "Download Statusbar" extension anyway....
- arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -3/+77I always thought Firefox's "download manager" was its only real fault. It's never been very useful, and usually just gets in the way. This update doesn't seem to help much.
- Proctor, on 10/10/2007, -4/+57Looks the same?
- oojamaflip2006, on 10/10/2007, -3/+50The information icon looks like a nice feature - I often find myself thinking 'where the hell did i get this crap from', when some dancing stripper starts pole dancing on my desktop. I sometimes download useful things too, no really.
- ChrisRX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40I think downthemall functionality should have been added by default.
- tristan55555, on 10/10/2007, -2/+36Straight from the source. Skip the blog.
http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/08/first-look-to-firefox-3s-new-download-manager/ - eplawless, on 10/10/2007, -4/+38Am I the only one who doesn't like it very much? Looks too cluttered.
- timmyallen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25it would be a miracle if you could actually pause and resume in this version of firefox.
- tempusrob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23We're talking about a freakin' download bar and you're worried about CPU cycles and resource hogging? Are you posting from Lynx?
- DeathGod321, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22http://xkcd.com/198/
- joshtj, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18Underwhelming.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Except firefox 3 doesn't come with download statusbar as far as I know.
- Darth_tater, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16DownThemAll is the best FF download manager i have ever used, and it blows the default FF one out of the water.
- falcon1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I dugg you down, but only because I am sick of people saying "digg me down" as a way of trying not to get dugg down.
- omgsoemo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15They added an icon
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - holygram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I am whelmed, at best.
- cvweiss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11It is still a popup! We install adblockers to prevent popups and we install javascript blockers to prevent popups.
Mozilla's continuance to design their download manager as a popup truly makes me wonder if they consider the popularity of the user base created "Add-ons" / plugins / extensions. Doesn't the very common use of "Download Statusbar" among it's users tell them anything? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14Its not suppose to be a lite browser you dumbass. Mozilla has said it a thousand times that its goal is to make a functional browser and not a lite browser. if you want lite then use lynx.
- NerveBand, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Do it the opera way and do it in a tab. That way, its so much more easier to manage and work with and really doesnt get in the way.
- blaze03, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Can someone tell me what the point of the "download manager" is? I've never understood what the hell it's supposed to accomplish. Why would you care about past downloads? All I need to know is the percent status as its downloading and nothing thereafter.
- ryanmct, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13It looks a lot like Safari's download manager, doesn't it?
- Griiih, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9You can do that by right clicking the file and selecting properties on Firefox 2
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Looks like a Download Manager.
One thing that I miss from IE for Mac was that you could Get Info on a download, and change the URL of the download. Very handy when you're trying to d/l something that the browser keeps trying to open up in a window. Also, ALL downloads ought to have the Reload icon. - zzz@tkz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Safari already has the Firefox 3 download manager!?
- Scheissen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I hate how FireFox manages its downloads. That's the only thing I've noticed that pisses me off. I have to use Download Statusbar. What is so hard for the Mozilla team to make a download statusbar option?
- brotherfranciz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6You know what? I'm an Opera "fanboy" but I'm starting to dread my fellow fanboys who come along to news about other browsers and try to force feed the users... I mean, you can look at it from a different angle: don't you hate it when Firefox fanboys come along to Opera news articles and try to force feed us in the comments threads?
The only way to keep things civil is to stick to the topic at hand. That also applies to Microsoft-Apple-Linux and PS3-Xbox360-Wii, not just Opera-Firefox-Safari-IE... - z0l0pht, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I always thought a huge fault was your inability to simply add a URL to the download manager... I'd love to see that.
- cfd339, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The "Download Statusbar" add-in already does this stuff very very well.
- n0c0ntr0l, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I agree, downthemall is by far one of the best download managers in existence.
- aldenhg, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9I disagree. I think that it's nice - it's clean and it does what it's supposed to while giving you all the options your average user would need. If you need more power in a download manager there will undoubtedly be an extension made by someone or you can just download a dedicated manager.
- beatnikwriter, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Yeah, I've begun using the Download Statusbar extension recently and its working out pretty good for me, dont think I'll uninstall it anytime soon.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Can they please integrate multiple connections like download manager apps use? Internet Download Manager, for example. Or Download Accelerator Plus. I hope you know what I mean... Because the FireFox downloader is slow.
- greatcaffeine, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Looks about as useful as IE7.
- chrissycakes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Looks exactly like the safari download manager.
- wafflez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3so when does firefox 3 come out again? =3
- yutt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I believe they are used to manage your downloads.
- homelesssmith, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3where's the clear downloads button? hope the mac one looks nicer
- nimawin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i'm still not a fan of another window popping up everytime i download something.. on an unrelated matter, who uses this Check Spelling button here anyway? IE users?
- brownzilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Alternatively just use Opera.
- donte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No kidding. That seems to be the one big feature that everyone seems to want and I've not heard anything about them actually implementing it. Thank you, Firefox, for ignoring user demand and continuing to bloat your browser with useless features. One of the things I used to like about the browser was that it was fast and lightweight, but as of 1.5 that's not the case anymore (and in 2.0 they implemented frequent crashes which they blame on lack of using windows firewall). I'm sorry but at this rate, you're just going to drive me back to IE. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
- broeks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'm Ron Burgundy?
- ryanmct, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3lets not start up any flame wars that aren't completely necessary.
- SATURN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The "Active" and "Completed" labels aren't necessary. It's not hard to tell which downloads are active. In addition, the "avg75free" in the Completed list is clearly not completed, but cancelled.
- yingjai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3looks same as before... nothing wow about it.
- donte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's not because it's one person's favorite feature. It's ignoring the core user base that has heralded your glories for the past few years and instead of giving them what they want, they write completely useless, bloated features. That's why people are a seeming a little pissy in this thread.
- MedHead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/435
- Yazilliclick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The only way to keep things civil is for people to grow up and be able to accept criticism of the software they use. I don't see how comparing a download manager in one browser to another in a story about said download manager is something that anybody should be getting upset about.
- doubleblack, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I've been using Firefox 3 for a while now, and to be honest I like the 2.0 one better
- ThePixelator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2that was relevant...
- ultrafez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You could just change it from an off-topic comment to an on-topic comment... maybe you wouldn't get dugg down so much
