- Akyan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Interesting, not sure I like it myself. I am to used to just looking at the left to find the search results, but maybe I would get used to it after a time.
- Jeral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Agreed. And I'm sure there is some point to the new layout(sidebar integrates with other google apps, like gmail?), but as of now I feel like using the old phrase, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it." The visual representation of a search success doesn't seem to be the case, because in my search, I had a nearly full green bar in images, but no images to show. Still, it is interesting to see what they have planned.
My digg and $.02. - DubbleA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It did not work for me. Maybe FF dosn't allow it? All i got is a blank tab that opened.
Oh well, Google needs to change their interface anyway. - Dracos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The layout may be improved, but Google needs to realize that in 2006, tables are out. If Google would embrace CSS layout and semantic markup, it would go a long way toward getting other sites to do so.
It's not as bad as most sites, but 4 tables plus one for almost every result is surely going to cost them a LOT of bandwidth. - EmSixTeen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Definitely works in Firefox, just make sure it's only one line. For example, I put in:
javascript:alert(document.cookie="PREF=ID=fb7740f107311e46:TM=1142683332:LM=1142683332:S=fNSw6ljXTzvL3dWu;path=/;domain=.google.co.uk")
Not sure if I'd like the change, but whatever, won't bother me much to be honest - As long as I get the right results on a page not bloated to the balls.
Edit: Seems that line got truncated. :( - SalMoriarty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if you use safari, you get that layout everytime.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Google's bloating up. Sad so see.
- helix400, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks, that did the trick for me. I just changed the domain part at the end to say .google.com instead of .google.co.uk, and it worked.
- Frinkahedron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4That's a fancy way of saying dupe. >_>
- rakig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1works on .com, .co.uk and .ca so far. also works in firefox and IE. since this is a "testing" version, i can't fault the green bars under the search types being off, and i do like the concept.
I actually like the new interface. It's more efficient. and i don't see it as bloated. to me, bloated is when "features" or "options" take the place of efficiency, and since i see the first 5 results in full on the new IF, and 4 1/2 on the old IF for the same search (depends on summary length of the results), it in my opinion works better. It presents more information (results for image/news/groups searches), in less space, with more options. Its a good start IMO - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that was really a big dupe! .. we dun need the same story everyday in the home page. why do we have "duplicate story" in the menu of "problem?" ?
- 4ndr3w, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I sometimes get this at random when doing searchs. Anyone else?

http://www.htk.com.br/ - danpsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you are adding a cookie, which is basically what you are doing with this, then there's nothing saying that you are really seeing google's new interface to begin with. This "new interface" could simply be a set preference that you can set now or in the future, and might not even roll out by default.
- vigilanteweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not blown away, but it's a micro adjustment. It seems like relevancy is a big deal for a lot of folks. Personally, if i'm looking for something in particular i generally know what i'm looking for but in other cases i think this would be good.
- helix400, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, only the visible display is truncated. Here, hopefully these instructions will make it easier for others:
1) In a new browser window or tab (not the one you are reading this digg comment with), go to http://www.google.com
2) If you use Firefox, triple click on the line below (triple clicking highlights the entire line, even the parts that go off screen), and then type Ctrl C (for copy).
javascript:alert(document.cookie="PREF=ID=fb7740f107311e46:TM=1142683332:LM=1142683332:S=fNSw6ljXTzvL3dWu;path=/;domain=.google.com")
3) Paste that line into your URL bar, and hit enter. You will get a message box, just hit ok.
4) Type your search into google, and you'll see it. - cbotwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My google searches have been displaying like this for weeks now. I didn't do anything to change it either.
- unikorn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3http://digg.com/technology/Preview_Google_s_new_search_interface
- wingerspoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Stumbled upon this a couple days ago from some other source, and gave it a try. I don't really like the new interface much, just because I don't see anything wrong with the current one. I don't really think it's necessary.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, the green bars were pretty much always wrong for me..
There's a lot of wasted space under the few lines on the left there.. I know they're trying to get people to look at the other kinds of searches but this doesn't seem like the best way to go about it. I hope you can keep the current interface if they adopt this new one! - DubbleA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nope. Must be how i have Tab-browser Preferences set up... and i changed it to google.com too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tried this
javascript:alert(document.cookie="PREF=ID=fb7740f107311e46:TM=1142683332:LM=1142683332:S=fNSw6ljXTzvL3dWu;path=/;domain=.google.com")
yes it is one line.
DOESNT woerk in IE or FIREFOX. Just get the alert message pop up.
ANybody? - wtfunkymonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it works fine, you're doing something wrong.
- dontbejack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yea, I was going to say that I had seen this before, but I don't remember how I got to it.
- bsingin64, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1doublepost
- mtlea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been seeing this for a while now. You just have to be signed in to Google with your gmail ID. Then just do a search from your personalized home. I believe it is on by default (It's called "Personalized Search (Beta)")
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yup. doesn't work for me either.
- bsingin64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is a very good chance that this is a step towards google "WEB 2.0"-ing their searches. I could see the framey look defining update regions ... left column, search results, and ads columns all dynamically updating via ajax after search submission. It would be interesting, none the less, if they did AJAX their search. Considering everything else Google is known for is ajaxed.
- VadimKatchkakov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is probably only working for domestication version becuase is not function on the www.google.ru correction. Perhaps javascript is not function and server is not licking the cookie in my local.
- keithdsouza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this dosent work for me either, any one else whom this has worked for
- norbiu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1you idiot! read the following steps!
- helix400, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Couldn't get it the sidebar to show up on my browser using their instructions...anybody else having any success?
- bguthro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1dupe.
- DubbleA, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Testing it right now...
- BobbyOnions, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0PEEK.
