- drakia, on 12/15/2007, -2/+53So, did anyone else see the message on Twitters website
"Twitter will be offline this Saturday from 10am to 10pm PST for maintenance."
Maybe the T-Mobile rep was right, maybe it _is_ a problem with Twitter? - brentinkc, on 12/15/2007, -3/+33Rotary telephones FTW!
- nicktripp, on 12/15/2007, -1/+25Twitter is a service where you can constantly tell other people who are your friends on Twitter exactly what you're doing at any given moment, from any given place. Example "dagamer34 is picking his nose." 5 minutes later... "dagamer34 is putting on shoes."
Yes, seriously. That's what it is. - themilk, on 12/15/2007, -0/+22straight from my twitter page: "Twitter will be offline this Saturday from 10am to 10pm PST for maintenance."
- bluscale, on 12/15/2007, -1/+22You're stealing at 56k speeds, yay...
- Soofi, on 12/15/2007, -1/+20A bunch of twits post messages (via sms) about what they are doing at any given moment, so other twits can read it and be informed, like 'I am having a coffee, writing on myspace, wearing no pants'. I guess you'd have to be a real twit to digg that sort of thing.
- dagamer34, on 12/15/2007, -0/+16Someone explain Twitter to me, the site itself is pretty vague.
- GreatToast, on 12/15/2007, -10/+25Welcome to a world without network neutrality.
- Slashriffs, on 12/15/2007, -0/+11Its funny you think they'll actually call you back..
- Markpdotcom, on 12/16/2007, -0/+11Twitter: A pointless waste of time for everyone involved :)
- lieutenantmudd, on 12/15/2007, -2/+12Can anyone explain exactly how they turned it off? Do they block mobile web access? Have they axed the short code? Are they blocking SMS messages from Twitter?
I thought most people on cellphones interacted with Twitter by SMS, so I don't understand why it would be blocked. T-Mobile should like people sending expensive SMSs. - tavisjohn, on 12/15/2007, -0/+9So maybe they started early... Maybe a problem came up before the sheduled downtime... Maybe there has been an on going problem that thy hoped to resolve today with a scheduled downtime, but it needed attention sooner than they planned...
Why does everyone claim, "It is a conspericy!!!!" without any information? - inactive, on 12/15/2007, -6/+14***** twitter
- mehron, on 12/15/2007, -0/+8Spoken from a true Twitter member. ;)
- nicktx, on 12/15/2007, -0/+6I think you're confusing T-mobile with what used to be Nextel, now part of Sprint. Not that I think T-mobile is good but they are on GSM and you can use some of the best phones including the iPhone, as long as they are not locked, on their network.
- linagee, on 12/16/2007, -1/+7So you waste your time entering in text messages into a tiny 0-9 keypad and others waste their time reading your incoming message? And if you don't have unlimited messaging, your friends get charged $0.15 every time you pick your nose? I don't get it....
- latrosicarius, on 12/15/2007, -0/+5Why do you think the information you get next time will be truthful?
- AceTracer, on 12/15/2007, -0/+5You get an error message saying the message was not sent. Or at least that's what I get. Between this and their lack of support for Facebook, how am I supposed to get my social networking whoring on?
- ecidnac, on 12/15/2007, -8/+12Good thing I have unlimited GPRS using T-MobileWeb and a hacked phone that allows me to get to sites other than T-Zones. Sorry, T-Mobile. I'll be transferring just as much, if not more, data on your network -- it'll just be GPRS, not GSM. Until I find out for sure what's up, and decide whether or not I'll be cancelling, anyway.
- kickasspodcast, on 12/16/2007, -2/+6Twitter is annoying and basically useless. It is inconceivable that so many people use it, however myspace is popular, so is J Lo for some reason also. Who knows. Don't really give a *****, if its true, people could pay small fee for services like twitter no?
- s0nicfreak, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3We're all totally jealous of you.
- RCourtney, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3My local fire department (Los Angeles Fire Department) uses it to post incident reports and updates:
http://twitter.com/LAFD - Nothlit, on 12/15/2007, -3/+6Welcome to a world where nobody is forcing you to use T-Mobile.
- kurtwinter, on 12/15/2007, -1/+4From my T-Mobile rep, their server farm got flooded, and a number of services are down for the immediate future, including Hot Spots @ Home, the T-Mo UMA (VOIP) service.
- kickasspodcast, on 12/16/2007, -1/+4I can do a great job tracking gas consumption and mileage without Twitter or mymilemarker.com.
My car comes equipped with an odometer and fuel gage.
fwiw- Microblogging? Really? "LEAVING THE MALL" or "CHANGING MY OIL" sounds like great reading. More like narcissism. As if anyone gives a ***** when you leave the mall. - gordonf238, on 12/15/2007, -8/+10I don't even know what Twitter was until I read up on it. So, it's another social networking site? Geez, what a surprise. What do people do, spend all day on the internet nowadays? They need to go out more, hang out in the wild, climb a tree, and maybe talk to each other using voices, not keyboards. Just how plugged-in do we, as human beings, need to be?
- whoisjonray, on 12/15/2007, -7/+9Just had an 18 minute conversation with T-Mobile's customer service department and no one could confirm nor deny the block on Twitter. I should be getting a call back later with more information.
- GreatToast, on 12/15/2007, -2/+4The $200 cancellation fee seems to create a certain degree of lock in wouldn't you say? It can hardly be claimed the handful of mobile carriers in the US form a free market.
- lotides, on 12/15/2007, -1/+3They all have a fee. It's either agree to their ***** legal terms or live like the amish. Oh, and f-ck you for defending these a-sholes.
- voyvf, on 12/15/2007, -1/+3Well, I would want a wireless connection in my skull, but upgrading from 802.11n to its successor would be a right bitch, ya know?
- coit, on 12/15/2007, -3/+5Why is this guy being dugg down? He is EXACTLY right.
- linagee, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2The police might. Or big brother. Or a stalker. Maybe an advertiser, but now I'm just guessing.
- tempusrob, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2Well, the point is to be a little more substantial than minutiae... I could see it being a useful presence system for a group of people who need to know where they all are at any given time.
- nekochan, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2you have a telephone? i have to walk to the person's house and talk in person
- robfarrell, on 11/27/2008, -10/+12@tmobile ***** You
- tempusrob, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2Luxury! My only means of communication is stomping in more code an hoping the neighbors hear it!
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1Welcome to 2007, idiot.
- GruntboyX, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1For starters, you could actually, hold a real conversation with the person.
- kickasspodcast, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1ftw
- Markpdotcom, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2A typical ***** message you get on twitter all the time. Why do people bother with it? I don't give a ***** if you're feeling "randy", or you're out shopping for new shoes. ***** OFF!
- hifiDesign, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1For what it's worth, I've been able to SEND messages to Twitter. I opted not to receive them a long time ago, because that's just a little over the top, so I can't speak to that.
- rusty0101, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1Just for clarification, it's not a gprs/gsm issue. It's a short code sms issue. Specifically sms messages with a shortcode source number of 40404 are either not being passed through to your phone, or you can not send to them. Whhhhich or a combination of them seems to be up in the air. However as a pre-paid service user with unlimited internet access (Sidekick III) I'm almost more annoyed that I can't receive messages from any shortcode sms source. Someone at T-Mobile needs their head examined.
- kickasspodcast, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1you're a moron, I said services like twitter, not an SMS plan for your phone. Charge 2 bucks per month for everyone who wants to blow up their phone with twitter- fwiw alot of plans already include a certain ammount of texts
- fufuku, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1You shouldn't compare Twitter to something with a nice ass.
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2On the other hand, those of us who don't climb trees to talk to our friends (what?) didn't have to go "read up" to find out what Twitter was. I guess it's a matter of balance.
- fufuku, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1I had no idea what Twitter was either. I thought I was missing out on something cool this whole time.
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2People do pay "a small fee" for text messages, Fonz.
- fufuku, on 12/16/2007, -0/+118 minutes is 3 minutes over their alloted maximum talk time. You got dropped so they didn't screw up their call time averages. You will never get a call back.
- bxblox, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2wtf is twitter...
- jealousjulie, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1I was wondering what the ***** was going on with my tweets last night. I can receive but kept getting "unable to send". This was before the Twitter maintenance. I pay for unlimited - T-Mobile sucks.
