- hungarianhc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23TWiT is truly one of the best podcasts out there. Gotta love Leo.
Other recs I have would be Cranky Geeks, Diggnation, and Gamespots' Hotspot. - slickfire, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24Leo is the goofiest and cheesiest radio personality in podcasting (obviously coming from television but he was the same way then too) but you help but love him.
Come on guys you are to cynical....i mean I hate 90% of the general public but I'm still a sociable person...give Kevin some credit, I mean he had a passion about a certain concept which is DIgg, and with some help was able to create it which is amazing...I went on a ride along once with a cop and the one thing he told me was that there is a lot of discretion in the field....Which is probably anywhere you look...I'm sure that a good a handful of the pages on the front page are put there by a human.....but seriously who could give two *****....hit digg spy and check out what's really going on. One extra button click and get the real jive...you guys are so lazy and just want to make drama. - Nick_Circosta, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Great Episode, I cant beleave its allready been a year of twits :) lets hope for many more :)
- scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Very interesting interview. I never knew that much stuff was done behind the scenes of digg. Nice job keep it up Kevin and the digg crew.
- alloneword, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18it is the title of the episode of TWiT, TWiT 51: Digg This
But I agree, I hate posts with Digg This in the title or summary. - boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Torrents:

- andyshep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13thats very sad.
- Guder, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15yet another good TWiT broadcast and good diggable topic to boot...
- canyonblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9part of the reason TWIT is seldom is a videocast is because so many different people appear on the show that they often use skype or other VOIP technology to be on the show. it is difficult for everyone to be in the same place at one time to videotape unlike diggnation which has 2 dedicated hosts promoting their buisness model (digg).
- pedronet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeh, TWiT makes for an interesting hour or so each week.
Kevin's discussion on how spammers work on 'gaming' digg was very interesting, particularly his comments on how the attacks have evolved over time. The parallels to wikipedia were discussed; I always find it interesting where some malicious form of monetary value pops up. Of course the designers of email, wikipedia and digg were planning for *appropriate* use and we were all quite surprised when people began to abuse these systems ... but at the end of the day there is some economic value at play which is what drives the ongoing attacks.
Gaming of automated systems is a perpetual part of life for the financial services industry. For years many finance companies have had dodgy brokers (e.g. used car salesman) with direct access into their computer systems and so spotting their attempts to game the system has been critical. This has of course now moved to the online world in more recent years, where it is on a much bigger scale - as PayPal, credit card companies and all of the internet banking sites have shown.
So I guess it's not all new - but on the other hand it's still not easy! Good luck Kevin, in maintaining the balance of usability against security ... - briangig, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9another great one is security now, also with leo..
- scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6By the way I can't wait to see those videos he was talking about of the real time bot activity they were watching, that is something I would like to see. Also a real time map of all the diggs happening would be very cool to watch. It reminds of that video of google hq with a globe turning and spikes of search activity.
- titanass, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8What ever happened to video versions its seems they have abandoned the idea. I have missed every one of the latest releases because I prefer videocasts.
- maverick1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been open minded through this and I'd let cooler heads prevail. I think Kevin was sincere and did a good job explaining the situation. I was a little surprised and dissapointed that it wasn't even mentioned on Diggnation.
- alexdagrate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The title of this TWiT episodes is "TWiT 51: Digg This."
The submitter was not asking you to digg the article, (s)he was just letting you know the title. - xavier42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2great podcast. I was happy to hear from Kevin Rose about 'the scandal'. Those morons at buzz out loud blasted digg and kevin rose the other day without even checking the facts.
- Falc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7i've made this my new desktop... ;)
http://leoville.tv/podcasts/coverart/kevin.gif - Genma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3not saying I agree, but I guess that could have been a simple solution for someone who knew the consequences. looks like people have been real quick to crucify Yahoo and co. for giving up the info, but like they said in the hearing, how are we to know they had any idea of what could have resulted from it. it's a damn shame but people's hands are tied in all different directions, and usually they would rather free the one with the cash in it.
- coldman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I absolutely did, and i'm really up to speed on the news of this....kevin seemed to address all those forevergeek issues within the TWiT podcast and the blog he wrote. my point is this...forevergeek is NOT innocent. they used "digg is pulling our stories" as an argument to their point when (1) they were spamming the diggall queue with the same stories (2) users were pulling those stories b/c they were duplices...
they also claimed that their url was blocked because digg didn't want those stories on their site...when now we know that the url was blocked b/c they were spamming the queue, which is standard protocol for digg mods...they were twisting the truth to make their point. they're just angry bloggers with ZERO sense of responsibility, end of story - b0b0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perhaps if you read forevergeek's perspective and the perspective of others, you might find things different.
- LordStandley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Very good episode. Lots of good information about Digg and how it acts with news stories.
- parth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5This is unrelated to the digg part of the podcast, though it was one of the big issues in the podcast today: does anyone else feel like the TWiTs have it all wrong when it comes to the Yahoo/China issue? They're practically blaming the journalist for not encrypting his _drafts_ of all things! Guys, it's not the same thing when China imprisons someone calling for free elections as when the US imprisons someone for plotting to blow up the Golden Gate Bridge...
- Fantom, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I'd lost interest in TWIT, so thanks for posting this or I'd have missed it. It was worth a listen.
TWIT was interesting to start with and it showed signs of being politically incorrect which I really liked. I don't know what happened but I just stopped looking forward to it. Kevin Rose is always worth listening to, and Dvorak has that cynical insight you can only find in an old fart - and he's a pretty funny guy too. I may just give 'em another chance and check it out again next week. - derjazzmeister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As a result of this interview, I've actually learned how to USE digg. Up until now, all I did was hang out on the front page but since I listened to the pod-cast, I've spent more time looking in the various categories and digging interesting stories to the front page (or burying bad ones). This interview helped me discover more of the "power" of Digg. The whole "digg spy" thing is really cool too. If you've never done anything beyond the home page, there's really a lot of depth to this site and a lot more cool stuff to see!
- mattroberts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think Diggnation has had a new episode since this story broke.
The latest Diggnation eposide is April 20 the story broke that afternoon. Diggnation is usually filmed a day or so before its actually released - so I wouldn't fault them for not mentioning it. Twit is the next best thing, though I too would have prefered it on Diggnation rather than Twit. - mattroberts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I seriously miss systm.... even if they did shorten it up.
- chuckf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Just don't say anything even slightly negative about TWiT on thier comments. You'll be moderated right off. You'll be called a troll and told not to return. Don't question thier motives for not providing a torrent. Don't think that because they say they'll survive or fail on donations and never take advertising that they won't. Don't think that large video files equals higher bandwidth costs. Don't think that when the video is on the audio won't be affected.
Even here, people will just bury this comment because they believe that TWiT is all good.
Don't believe the hype. - recover82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kevin must have forgot to mention the "Check Spelling" button. Or maybe I missed that part of the "epsidoe". :)
- coldman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what's really interesting, is forevergeek. they've been applauded for finding "fraud" within the digg system. whether or not the fraud was true, THEY WERE frauding the digg system by creating dummy accounts to get their story homepaged!!! according to the podcast, they had created tons of accounts under 1 IP and gamed the system for their own benefit. that doesn't sound like "collective wisdom" to me. and after they were caught, agreed to not do it again...they did it again! the plot thickens IMO...it's funny that they didn't mention THEIR OWN fraud activities on their site. this really damages forevergeek's credibility...and their digg fraud statement.
- Deuterium, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8What's there to know about how Digg works.... You put the word "Apple" or "Steve Jobs" in the title and it goes to the front page.
- parth, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10Well he still hasn't fully explained how that story with something like 12 diggs (including kevinrose's) got on the front page, though I suppose kevin's digg would hold a lot of weight according to what he mentioned.
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I never knew about the "thing" that's goin on here on digg (altho im a regular) until I heard that TWIT podcast. I'm just a front page guy, and tend to miss the "censored" articles that's on the backend. Hay...so much for digg.
- PunchMeIBleed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1TWiT is so boring, diggnation is sooo much better. Hearing alex and kevin getting drunk makes my day
- mattroberts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The story that did get some 1400 Diggs didn't make it onto the Top Stories of the Week - why not? Kevin addressed the reasons for the quick Digg conspiracy theories and then the reason why so many of the stories about it got buried - All the explanations were fair and I believe him.
But if you go to to the original story:
http://digg.com/technology/Digg_Corrupted
And then view the most dugg stories of the week:
http://digg.com/topstories/thisweek
You'll notice that the story on Digg being Corrupt is missing..... This may be a glitch from unburying a story - but he didn't address it. In a community very proud of it Policy of user driven control questioning those in the know is a fair way to keep things on the level. Though I will grant that some of the comments towards Kevin and Co. were needlessly personal. - dolby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Can this show great any better?
- thetron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3It was an interesting interview. It's accually new!
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3@titanass
If you're talking about Systm then good riddance. That show had so much potential but they turned it into reader's digest BS.
I was fascinated by the make-your-own-cables show - they brought in a field expert to give a live demo and he described in detail what makes great cables, but when it came down to actually making them they used these transition effects to skip over all the technical stuff! Same thing for the MythTV episode.
It's really disheartening to see Kevin Rose, the coolest guy on TechTV, rebel against his former digs (no pun intended) with a pirate television show of sorts, only to bog that show down with the same detail-phobic common denominator pleasing tripe that he rebelled against in the first place.
Non-nerds would never watch a show about making cable or configuring servers, so why do they have to design the show for that imaginary audience? - Genma, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3it's obvious what the motives _could be_ behind manually ranking up articles, but do you really expect them to give up any real information on how it works? it would be kind of stupid to reveal that while there's money to be made and they're dealing with zombie diggers already. the "big picture" is bigger than you think, so just step back a bit and take a look while it's free.
- remo2012, on 10/12/2007, -13/+7Wow!! I can't believe all of that is happening behind the web.
I digg this podcast too.
This guys are fun to listen to and talk tech with the educational side of an opinion.
http://www.returnofwhatever.com - Flankk, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4You *are* a digg moderator. You are paid by a wealth of interesting stories and relevant discussion.
That was cheesy. ***** you all. - Jeppy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4I have to second that one. I was so in to TwiT when for some reason or another I just got really bored of it. I unsubscribed and deleted all of the TwiT podcasts I had. I used to really enjoy the show but it just got boring for me. I think it might have to do with all of the personal stories and everyone trying to one up the other person. They would get so off topic they would forget what the original topic was even about. Hell.....I would forget the topic unless I listened to the podcast a second time. Maybe I'll give it a second shot.....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3From the article:
"Digg has three moderators, one of whom specifically removes all articles criticizing Bush."
Glad he finally straightened that out! - whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3I just finished the part about Kevin explaining Digg. Pretty insanely awesome stuff.
Here's my post about it... (shameless self promotion? hah)
http://www.whalesalad.com/2006/04/23/kevin-explains-digg/
It would be so cool to be a digg moderator, paid or unpaid. - ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -22/+12It figures my comment would get buried....im sure you will bury this one too.....Im not saying Digg isnt a cool site in concept, but i just think people are missing the bigger picture, but whatever i guess....
- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -40/+30I still don't fully believe that Kevin Rose and others directly involved with Digg aren't manipulating front page stories for one reason or another. I do give him props for going on TWIT and explaining his position, but it still doesn't FULLY explain all of the activity that goes on behind the scenes. I don't believe in this whole "conspiracy" thing, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why Kevin and others at Digg would artificially promote certain stories about certain sites or "topics" to the front page....I'm not calling it fraud, its his site, but still I think we on here have to think objectively about what Digg is REALLY doing and about...
- diargasm, on 10/12/2007, -21/+9How do we know he didn't get this on the frontpage? I smell something fishy.
- smorzander, on 10/12/2007, -12/+0goshers, i stopped listening to twit about 4 months ago. one of the most boring podcasts out there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+5Only three people are hired as moderators. Who are they? I bet it's AlbertPacino.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -27/+11"New Twit is out" is a bad title, I'll digg the one with the better headline. First isn't necessarily better.
