- TreasureChest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7my mistake, here's a picture of the bare disks:
http://www.plunder.com/TDK-Bluray-Bare-download-869.htm - DJgreenLava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How long do you think it'll be until a 100 pack of 50GB discs retails for $10?
- TreasureChest, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Here's a pic of the disk:
http://www.plunder.com/TDK-Bluray-Disk-download-866.htm - blasphemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Probably not for another 5 years....
DVD R-DL's have been out a long time and are still expensive as hell. A ten pack is like 25-35USD. - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The blu-ray in the cardrige reminds me of the first CD-ROMs that came to the market.
- matts0344, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Considering a 20 pack of DVD+R DL costs upwards of $60 (about $3 per disc) I would guess DL Blu-Ray discs to get to the price you mentioned (10 cents per disc!!) to be about 2012 at least.
- Bushikatagi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think that is a picture of the same media TreasureChest. The article description quotes, "...TDK is the first to market with bare Blu-ray Disc media." Bare. That means no cartridge. Like a traditional DVD or CD is what I beleive they are producing. The cartridge was dropped because of fears it would be too different for consumers and would hurt their chances against HD-DVD.
- SimonX314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where did you find players at $400? They are at least $999 everywhere.
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's cheap. I hope they are contained in cartridges; that would definitely fix the scratches and dust problems on all CD/DVD media.
Waiting till blu-ray R/RW drives come out... - elvis314, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3glad to see these larger storage options are coming out. But about $1/GB...Hard Drives are
- tylerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just bought 100 dvd r from evil compusa for $29.95 nowthats cheap IMO and it had the printable paper on the front too :-D
FTL for shopping @ compusa :-( but I needed them right away - cheshire76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With price estimates of being $400+ just for a player, how much is a burner going to cost?
- xerox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WOW thats expensive. 1 recordable for 19.99?
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can you even buy blueray rewriters yet?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks treasurechest ;)
they look good :) - zouhair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll wait until prices realy drop but I can't wait buying a bunch of 50 GB disk
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ill buy them in bulk and sell them on ebay :P
all diggers should do the same ;) - vandalet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The samsung burner was supposed to be out this month for about $500. Ill wait till i can get it for under $100 like i did with CD burners and DVD burners.
- The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the cost of DVD-DL media is so high is because it never really caught on, at $8 or so a disk, why buy it when i can buy 10 single layer DVD's for around the same price.
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2More like 36cent a gig hard drives; you can buy a 250gig hard drive for $89 at newegg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmmmn, anyone else going scalp blueray disks/drives and then selling them on ebay? Some people did it with the 360 and made thousands.. just saying.
- Frankiedog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember when the first specs came out for a CD-R for your computer. The price range on the burner was in the speculated at the $10,000 range for about the first year. Just like the 10 -12K for the first Plasma screens. Once it hits mass production it comes down fast if the product takes off.
- kalphegor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i will buy a Blu-ray rewriter when it will be $49.99 at the electronics shop on the corner of my street
- Terrx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@jacobbp25
How the hell did you wait out VHS? - CLucas916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it wouldnt be smart, the 360s were no where to be found. these discs will be.
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well DVD blanks now are about 75 cents.
but duel layer are about $4.00 each.
I really could use a 25gig media but I'm not about to pay $20.00 a disk for it.
Maybe the release of blu-rey and hd-dvd media will make DL disks come down to
more normal pricing. - nitroskanker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait... blu-rays need a caddy?
- niknik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DVD-DL prices drop quickly because they were basically just like the "single layer" burners.
HD-DVD basically is also a "evolution" of the regular DVD drives.
Blueray, on the other hand, uses different thicknesses, apertures, etc. Therefore being more expensive... I think they're "hoping" the PS3 to be a success and drive the blueray market forward... or else... Bluray may become the 21st century "Betamax". - corrosive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember when everyone said "WTF $10 for a blank CD? Who needs that?" then it was "WTF $10 for a blank dvd. Who needs that?"
- newevilmind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1omg who cares about HD-DVD and Blu-Ray???
for the last time. - jacobbp25, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Beta || VHS and HDDVD || Blu-ray
I'll wait it out - Nanometre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wait a minute... aren't the PS3s using blu-ray? OMG Game prices soar... It's bad enough paying $100 over here in Aus land.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, the nice thing is that UNLIKE years past, the cost of burners tends to drop quickly these days. Look how quickly Dual Layer burners dropped in price.
This years $500 burner should be $100 in less than a year. Media prices will do the same as the burners take off.
We've come a long way from 8" floppies... - djrbx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Boycott SONY so F*** Blu-Ray
- Spid3y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0um no thanks, i'll wait till it's cheaper
- ejectMedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, almost $50 for the 50GB disk. Who is buying this technology now? It'll be great once the price comes down, but until then...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1$19.99 for a 25 GB BD-R, wow, that's so great. Gimme 15,000 of those please, I'm bored of lighting my cigars with $100 bills.
"It's a Sony" - boycott the f**ing thing. They won't get a penny from me. - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1TDK FTW!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Wow. I would like to get a hold of that. I think it shouldn't be a surprise as technology grows and as the need for mass storage grows, companies like TDK have to find a way to increase the storage media.
