- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Have you guys even read the comment? It's somebody's MOCKUP based on the new Gmail logo. Someone may as well have just pulled it out of their ass.
- teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3if it ain't broke don't fix it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
Needs more COWBELL - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's reasonable, but it's not better I don't believe. The lettering is a bit funky (look at the E and the O), the shadow is too close to the word and gives it a more fuzzy look, especially where they removed the bottom bevel. The Google logo as it is now is pronounced and it stands against a background well (but I could see using this new logo for single-tone print since it's sillohette compatible).
Nice try though. - ericpp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In a couple years, gradients will be just as annoying as bevels are...
- Warpling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks good small, but bigger, its kinda too "photoshop tutorial lookish" if that makes sense to any of you.....
~Ryan~ - gab00n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They basically just hit it with a sledge hammer.
- jamiem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The white on the gradient is a bit too strong.
- Sudha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont know, but nowadays am feeling digg is becoming a place where even a small fuss about google goes big even it has no worth at all.... :-(
- SirNuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's too light in parts and doesn't stand out enough from the white background.
- exclipy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The trends of design have been rather interesting through the past 15 years or so. Windows 3.x was basic and flat. Windows 95 made everything look 3D and beveled. XP and Vista seem to be going for the flat (supposedly "sleek" look). The same story has played out on Mac and Linux DEs, as well as on the web. Even on hardware - from the black, square Ataris to the curvy, white SNES to the black, square PS2.
The fact that people now like this new Google logo for being flat, over the more sophisticated old one, exemplifies this trend beautifully. - Jamminpotato, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3furthermore i thik the old one looks bteter, the 'new
' one is kidna falt and unappealing - Wreckk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That redesign is pretty lame...
That crap gradient isn't much better then the ancient google bevel. - spadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not really a gradient, it's more of a color blend. I think it looks a little more like all the "Web 2.0" logos showing up lately.
- troublemaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the older one. The new one is too.. "flat".
- ScottDaMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Current logo is better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This just in, My front yard grass just grew another .000000001th of an inch. :)
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Two things, firstly it's a MOCK UP. This is not google's real new logo. Secondly, it's crappy and no better than the original... Look how messed up the right edge of the O is.
- Mediaright, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe...it's ok, I guess. All the guy did was take off most of the bevel...non-story. Undecided if it's really better or not.
- sam54m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't see a different. when I read the title I thought they were gonna change those goofy colors and go with a better logo or even change the font. Google's logo gotta go.
I wonder when they will hire a designer to help them out. - zone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i don't quite like it.. there's something wrong with the yellow "o" and the "l" looks weird with that dark gradient.. the gradient itself too, cuz the direction is not the same in all the letters.. and i don't see what's up with that.. it's not bad.. but it has some issues...
- m0ngoos3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I COMPLETELY agree with Jamminpotato... The new one is incredibly unappealing
- aggrorobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This isn't the "new google logo" -- it's someone's speculation based on the gmail logo. "Inaccurate" was added for a reason!
And if you actually look at the mockup on flickr, it looks so amateurish there's no way you could digg this even as speculation. - diggerdong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it still looks like a 2 yr old took a box of crayons and wrote google.
- pranay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For a moment, if you imagine that the new logo was the old logo (and the old logo was the redesign), you would see that you like the original even more now.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the old one better and I see no problem with it.
- BrenBeers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The logo has gotten better. No longer does it look like a pile of crap
Now it looks like a pile of pooh.
At this rate in another 12 years the logo will look like a pile of garbage. I will be dead and long gone before the google logo looks good. - poorlilrichboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who cares just give me IMAP on me GMail dude!!
- phuqju, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet New Google Logo???
WTF
IT IS THE SAME LAME THING
google has no creativity just like MS - glitchp-udd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm particularly fond of this alternative logo, previously on digg.
- gooddoggytreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not an official logo, some guy just made it due to the new GMail logo. Doubtful that Google will change it's logo.
- nostgard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy crap that's ugly.
- picknslap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If that was true, it would suck balls.
Viva nostalgia! - spoonman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most people out there wouldn't even know it was different.
- grawity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool.
- patrickloggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...and yes, I know the shadow might be too sharp and the edges are ***** up. I did this in about 2 minutes, it's not a big deal.
- patrickloggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK.. to clear up some stuff...
I made the logo. I posted this story yesterday, it only got 46 diggs. This guy obviously reposted, I'm not complaining.
This IS NOT an official Google logo, as people have said. I just changed it to match the new Gmail effect as an experiment. If you don't like it, it doesn't matter, don't complain about it, go to google.com.
And I'm really glad Kevin Rose dugg at least the original story. Diggnation anyone? :P - glitchp-udd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*****.... http://digg.com/security/Government_Surveillance_Google_Logo
that alternative logo. - suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0perfect, google designs like a 1999 aol pirate group
- cbdgr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0old current one defintaly better
- spling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's so ugly. I'll be dissapointed if this turns out to be real.
- billmania, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good for google, now they can blend in with all the other boring logos out there
Great, now their stock will surely go back up to $400/share - junesix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's the Google typeface (http://www.identifont.com/show?HF) - roll your own Google logotype mockup!
- burningheretic6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The new logo is very slick. Too bad www.google.com has the old crappy logo.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So they changed the logo. Big deal. Rest of their site still looks ugly as hell.
- gaius_baltar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks like what the Apple menu apple went to after 10.4... with earlier versions it was shiny and 3D and how it's flat and gradient.
- Dummies102, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wtf, poster? you can't just post speculation and insinuate that it's fact.
- raptxt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i like it, simply as always but quite better.
it's still google style anyway. - Cheeze_Head, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old one is better
- mrhaines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, I wish I could hire their graphics designer

What is Digg?
