- takeyourmedicin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2golden palace will probably end up swapping the generator for a porshe or something ridiculous
- pfunked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Probably not fake. We played this game in college, called "bigger or better". Every team started off with a paperclip, and we saw who can come back with the best thing at the end of the day. We ended up with refrigerators, trampolines, and a swanky old console TV.
- saifrc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If "Link's Awakening" serves as any guide, this guy should eventually end up with a magnifying glass. And possibly a boomerang.
- dreaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"golden palace will probably end up swapping the generator for a porshe or something ridiculous"
exactly! - evand22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1like that... only real. i think.
- Braedon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Totally Digg it.
That's awsome, I hope he can do it. It would be an impressive feat to say the least. - noodhoog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why on earth would this be fake? I don't see any of the stuff listed as being unrealistic.
As he gains popularity and fame people will offer more and more elaborate stuff in trade just to get to meet him and be a part of the story. If he wasn't on the web, I doubt he'd have got that generator for the barbeque. As someone said, that damn casino place which buys everything for publicity will probably swap him for a porsche or something though. - dieter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude has an adventurous spirit and if he comes out of it with a house - good on him. /dugg
- itaylor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting... going to have to keep an eye on this one.
- acardboardbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like a plan to me. diggin it.
- Odwalla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to do this at the end of E3 conferences I was working. I'd start with a T shirt from our booth and easily end up with a handful of games. One year I managed to snag a set of pewter Babylon 5 ship models. The following year I made it all the way to a full Act-Labs force feedback steering wheel, pedals (w/ clutch), and gate-shifter combo.
- shackbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's either goofy or really smart. He'll probably pull it off too with tons of publicity to go along with it.
- heartless_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0/em waits for obligatory copy cats. Funny I just watched the movie Copycat on early morning TV.
- Arvin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hans im Glück is preferable. And I hated that story.
- myskja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If he swaps the doorhandle for a door, does he then have to swap the door for a doorhandle...? Could end up in a loop there :)
Anyway, I suspect he at this point only get to swap things which people wanted to throw away in the first place, so his plan may soon come to a halt when he needs to swap some useless thing for something a bit more expensive. - wbrendel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone else think "this bloke" is really Martin Sargent? This _really_ seems like something he would do.
- hipsterelitist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can start a blog of my idiotic adventures and not only will they be validated, but will get tons of press! I can get away with whatever I want! It is American dream!
- Golbez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im looking around my classroom wondering if I can trade him something for his generator, or, can I start a trade up program of my own here at school.
- Squill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is so damn stupid, people will do anything now a days for internet publicity. No digg for me, I will not fuel the publicity.
- capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not exactly science / technology related, but interesting anyway. I'll give it a digg.
- doant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we did this whit the scouts when I was young lots of fun we called it the apple and egg game. but we did it allot after a while people in our town where like no I don't have anything to swap just as last time. its nicer to do it in strange towns. we always where to shy. a dig for me.
- dannywsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's hilarious. It falls under the principle of 'one man's junk is another man's treasure'. Why wouldn't someone trade a coleman stove for a doorknob if the he no longer had a need for the stove and really wanted the doorknob? I think it's a great idea and I'll definitely be watching this man's progress.
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0doorknob to Coleman stove? not likely.
- belac88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this really is a complete waste of time...some of these things are funny...but this is too much
- zinob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmm i could really use a generator, to bad i recently cleaned my basement.
- noodhoog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0btw, does this make anyone else think of Katamari Damacy, or am I just mad? It's something about the whole thing of starting with a small object and working your way up gradually to bigger and bigger ones.
- PGvildys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0During freshmen week at my univ someone started with a pencil and got up to a solar car. At another university they started with a pen and got up to an industrial crane. It's not that difficult to do given time.
- capajc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd digg it it he were more than 5 items into it.
Post it again in a few weeks/months. - pacmansyu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This guy rocks. I think its pretty damn cool. I hope he gets his house or island or whatever.
- Brutal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so he hasn't managed to trade away the red generator since September 24? Doesn't sound very promising - but I'll be keeping track with his site anyway.
+digg - opticsnake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I expect he'll be inundated with offers by the end of the day for outrageous trades because, like many have already said, folks would love to get in on the publicity. Yeah, Golden Palace will probably get in on it and trade away that Pope-mobile that they bought. It's a great idea. I'm hoping he succeeds.
Digg - DaviDK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nah he would give up at the stage he traded something for a porsche. Everyone has their price.
- PlaidPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is an awesome idea, in my opinion. I may have to try this sometime.
- nugget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is stupid...
- ylocav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Err the last trade was in September and its now mid November.
most of the trades happened in July, then a 2 month lull until the last one at the end of September. it's a lot easier to find someone to trade something virtually worthless (paperclips and pens) than it is for something somewhat valuable generators). sure, he's got a ways to go... but I'd be willing to bet someone in Louisiana would be happy to trade a recently acquired boat (via hurricane) for a generator. - aliks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Err the last trade was in September and its now mid November. Sounds to me as if the shine has worn off the idea and the website.
Back to the drawing board! - avtomat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is awsome. It's the next 'million dollar pixel' site... Yea, just a gimik, but it gets the job done. And now that it's hit digg - if his site doesn't go down (probably won't since it's blogger) - he's jumpstarted his next several moves.
This is great. +digg - Wolfman~K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no way, I just offered him a trade, lets see if he takes it.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love gimmicks!
As long as I don't have to pay anything, the more ridiculous the better! - wired4christ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0he'l be on tv tonight nov 9
- Jasoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's like the guy (Myth) who asked everyone he met for a single penny and ended up funding his college education.
- Pile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It has less to do with the value of the trade as it does finding something that's of value to you that is not as valued by its owner. In our obsessive consumer-centric society, this is easily accomplished. We throw away valuables every day because we're convinced that we need to constantly "upgrade."
Then there's the vanity factor. The more publicity this thing gets (and I'm guilty of promoting it as well on http://www.bsalert.com ) the more likely anyone who wants to share in this guy's fifteen minutes of fame will work out an interesting trade. - JzLosman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would totally trade a pen for a paperclip, they are both nothing of value to me therefor equal trade.
Good luck my man, Good luck.
PS - I got a bag skittles you can trade me for. - tomerdean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I wouldn't give a pen for a paperclip.... fake....
- nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How about swapping full size images resized by HTML for images shrunk down with photoshop?! (Web pages 101)
- ScottyTee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Great idea, I take my hat off, but could one of the many many programmers and designers on here perhaps design a sexier site for him? :D

http://www.caseypicker.com - Incognito, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I hope that generator blows his current house up.
