- JAHred, on 02/13/2008, -5/+149I can't believe Lenovo was able to fit a computer in an envelope and somehow squeeze 3 USB ports into the thing.
- singletrack861, on 02/13/2008, -26/+169Suck it, Apple.
And I am a mac user, before I get flamed. - Raziel66, on 02/13/2008, -10/+139Now THIS is an ultra portable worth buying.
- diulei, on 02/13/2008, -5/+68Most of Apple's achievements aren't really achievements in technology, but marketing.
And yes, I own a Mac Mini, MacBook, and iMac, and more than a few shares of AAPL before you call me a hater. - apollomurga, on 02/13/2008, -8/+65i can fit a piece of ***** in a manila folder but i'm not making a big deal about it.
- jk_baller23, on 02/13/2008, -2/+51Competition is good, better products will be produced. While I like Apple's MacBook Air, I probably won't be buying it because of the limited ports. I think Apple could have made an awesome light-weight notebook, but decided to leave out some important ports in order to make it the "World's Thinnest Notebook".
Function > fitting in to a manila folder, imo. - inactive, on 02/13/2008, -6/+54If you want a durable laptop go with Thinkpads. They have an amazing track record for durability.
-They've been run over by cars
-Left in house fires (big ones)
-Left in the forest over winter, and numerous other whack conditions.........
And STILL came out with all the information on the HD intact. Thinkpads are very durable machines. - sindex, on 02/13/2008, -12/+49But Macs are still better, because Steve Jobs says so, right?
- frieddonuts, on 02/13/2008, -2/+32Using TWSS is a privilege, not a right. Use your powers wisely.
- pintomp3, on 02/13/2008, -4/+32yes, to boot. that's what the HD is for.
- fyrehart, on 02/13/2008, -2/+29My 4G EeePC also has 3 USB ports and fits into an Interdepartmental Delivery folder.
- banmaster, on 02/13/2008, -5/+30Thats ironic coz that exactly what apple did.
- cledford, on 02/13/2008, -0/+21Manila folder's are so last week - it's an envelope this week. Sheesh, tools.
- warriorscot, on 02/13/2008, -2/+21They were making kick ass laptops for a while before Apple were(when they were with IBM not Lenovo), and they actually came close to being worth the ultra high price tag unlike the apples as you not only got more features but the things are about as indestructible as a normal laptop can get.
- lordtyros, on 02/13/2008, -1/+207 hour real world battery life doesn't come free.
- Innisskillin, on 02/13/2008, -7/+25Sweet! Not like an apple sweet though. Like cotton candy sweet!
- 31213121, on 02/13/2008, -5/+23And if you install OSX Leopard on it using this guide, you'll have a fast Macpad Air!!!
http://osx86.thefreesuite.com/ - mattvogt, on 02/13/2008, -1/+183 USB ports AND an optical drive. And just .15" thicker than the MBA
- undaunted, on 02/13/2008, -3/+18$2,744 for only 1.2 GHz? I recognize that a bulk of the price is for the solid state but at that price, I'm surprised they couldn't have gone with a faster processor.
- acatzr800, on 02/13/2008, -4/+19So you're saying it has 2 more usb ports, an ethernet jack, and what looks to be an optical drive? How come that was so hard for the Air? I bet it'll cost a good $500 less too.
- DemDude, on 02/13/2008, -1/+15Both the MacBook Air and the Thinkpad have full size and standard layout keyboards. Also, the Thinkpad even has an integrated DVD-Drive. RTFA
- Lane, on 02/13/2008, -4/+18Yeah but can it? oh wait IT CAN!
- chuffdogg, on 02/13/2008, -3/+17but if you RTFA you will see that it is more than the air, smart guy. Engadget links to mossberg who lists the price. It starts at $2,500
- ncc74656m, on 02/13/2008, -10/+24And all before Lenovo bought them...
- V1ncent, on 02/13/2008, -5/+18Wow, they could fit the optical drive in theirs, Apple.
- killtherebel, on 02/13/2008, -1/+14I just bought a Lenovo T61P and it has by far the best build quality of any laptop I've used. I have had zero problems with it. It's a beast in terms of performance, great screen, the best keyboard of any laptop, and doesn't look like a toy. It has slightly better specs than a Macbook Pro but cost me about $1000 less. And it has a right mouse button! Maybe you just need to send yours back.
- yevkasem, on 02/13/2008, -0/+13you're afraid of breaking a thinkpad in half? you must be afraid of vaporizing the macbook air then.
- halfgook, on 02/13/2008, -4/+16how much will/do these retail for? thats a sweet package.
i'm a mac user. this thinkpad > air. anyday. - xtc46, on 02/13/2008, -2/+12according to jobs...his sticky brown stains smells good.
- ravan46, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10But how much is it?
- ncc74656m, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10I'd rather have the Eee, thanks. Well, unless you're giving it to me for free. Then I'll take the Air, sell it, buy an Eee and a regular laptop. =D
I know, I won't win brownie points with the Mac-fans, but aside from its slim size, what does the Air offer? Not much for the price by comparison. You can get the (still pretty slim) Dell Latitude D420 for less and you don't have to buy the multi-bay separately. Also, the old Latitude X300 was pretty slim, and it was the same thing, except with more ports. - jlmillstein, on 02/13/2008, -1/+11and a HD the size of an ipod nano to boot.
- briLo, on 02/13/2008, -5/+15That's the beauty of it......it doesn't!!!
- LLLSecretChimp, on 02/13/2008, -2/+12Yeah, but have they been shoved into manila envelopes?
- negativefx, on 02/13/2008, -1/+10Thinkpad: realizing that a laptop is meant to be durable and perform well, not look purdy next to your ***** iphone at starbucks. FFS eat ***** and die.
- negativefx, on 02/13/2008, -1/+10Also, how much is the apple one with a solid state? $3G or so? Do you normally ***** out of your brain, or just feeling under the weather today? Multitouch = gimmick.
- MacParrot, on 02/13/2008, -0/+9I agree with you. The MBA looks nice, but is far too limiting especially considering its premium price. I think I'd rather have a nice refurbed MBP with optical drive, all the ports and replaceable battery but I'm more interested in performance than how light or small something can be.
- glacius99, on 02/13/2008, -3/+12So they rounded the corners? Whoo!
- warriorscot, on 02/13/2008, -4/+13Apparently the Boys at Lenovo didn't hear cause they did both, but they have been at the laptop game longer and were better at it to start with.
- killtherebel, on 02/13/2008, -0/+8those holes are for liquid to come out of in case you spill some over your keyboard. Thinkpads are actually designed for accidents.
- MuDog, on 02/13/2008, -0/+8It also comes with a 64GB SSD which costs $1k to add to the MBA
- negativefx, on 02/13/2008, -2/+10+ Not Apple product.
- Breepee, on 02/13/2008, -1/+9I think that's his point
- banmaster, on 02/13/2008, -3/+11Go back to jerking off over your Steve Jobs photo collection!
- dan222555, on 02/13/2008, -0/+8+1 ThinkPad
- banmaster, on 02/13/2008, -3/+11You never had an iPhone then...
- banmaster, on 02/13/2008, -1/+8Don't make me laugh. Apple are notoriously secretive about upcomming products, the first anyone outside apple knew of the Air was at mac expo. So what you are basically saying is that Lenovo were able to design and build a new notebook from scratch in under 2 months. Get real. These things take ages (sometimes years) to get from drawing board to production to shop shelves, especially products like this where the manufacturer has to re-tool whole production lines for it instead of using the previous generation's parts for it.
Anyway, the original poster of the "Get this Apple" comment was referring to the 2 extra USB ports, ethernet jack and optical drive that apple refused to put into the air. Face it, this is just a far more functional notebook than the air will ever be. - xtc46, on 02/13/2008, -0/+7I have a Lenovo T43 and the thing is solid as a rock. I have dropped, knocked it off tables, etc (mostly to see if it would hold up) spilled water on it. Macbook Pro's and the T series thinkpads are the best notebooks you can buy as far as price v. preformance goes.
