- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22This is a pretty cool picture. It's tech-related because it's a natural feature shown in the infrared spectrum, which brings a whole new view not possible without this technology. Plus, it's neat looking...
- Rocksea24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Found the Glacier on google maps thanks to the info on the NASA page, which says the glacier is west of Yakutat Bay.
Here is the link:

-Cheers - TritoneTerror, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Wow can't you guys catch sarcasm? This guy is mocking people who post "no digg."
- digger_twit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Amazing
- hankyone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Digg is great" = sarcasm
"Digg is great" = not sarcasm
isn't the difference clear!
/sarcasm - parth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7he was being sarcastic, can't you tell?

Seems it was the "Feature of the day" on NASA's site. - arnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Did you read the summary? - Malaspina Glacier, west of Yakutat Bay.
- butch3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3okay...and what do the different colors mean? where's the article for this?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It is dark. You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.
- flickerbrain, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11You do know that Digg is planning on branching out from technology related stuff, don't you ??
- SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well Rocksea24 provided us with a google map

- sovietninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the fractal equation would be too long for non ninja ppl to understand. The bottom right hand corner you can see some Inuit Ninjas attacking a polar bear. Awesome.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks like an Iron Maiden CD cover...
- mikesd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One point of it is that it shows how much the climate is changing. This glacier has receded dramatically as they all have in the last 10 years.
- ggudggid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The point for high-resolution open water would be to see whales. What planet are you from?
- HunterKiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dang, I meant to say "Zork"... although I did spend many hours playing Rogue back in the day..
- m4ktub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now that's pure art!
I loose huge amounts of time just to pick up the colors for menus and buttons in a web page. These guys and the ones that make stuff like http://www.cfht.hawaii.edu/HawaiianStarlight/AIOM/English/CFHT-Coelum-AIOM-Oct2003.html really do awesom work. - godofpumpkins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3if it's a random glacier, chances are google doesn't have high res imagery of it :P I expect it'll be a while before we have high-resolution imagery for even the most random of places. And we probably never will, for open water – what's the point? : )
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funniest comment I've read all day. Congratz.
- AeonTorpor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really don't understand the point of this photo. But i guess it can be chopped up to make a wallpaper, with it's cool colors and all.
- LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the scariest image I've seen in years. It will make a sweet wallpaper.
- dribbled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'nother cool one,
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/imagegallery/image_feature_533.html - Burgerman851, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you missed the shift key once or twice, there.
- HunterKiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hah, I loved Rogue.
- LucasOman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"I WILL NOT MAKE THE TINY ACTION OF CLICKING THE "DIGG IT" BUTTON!!!!11!!!!" - sarcasm
"This is not tech related. No digg." - not sarcasm
Yes, quite clear. - Zzzzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok I don't understand, I looked on various sites to attempt to understand how the red coloring of this image occurred? Ice should give off some infrared light, this I understand, but how is the red coloring so intense? Is this a result of where most of the heat/melting is occurring on the glacier?
Can someone explain in more detail? - arnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Rocksea24: cool, thanks. This thing is huuuuuge.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh, it almost looks like some body internals!
- lykedoctor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is from the "Earth as Art" series from NASA.
Here's a 7904x8512px jpeg of it (20mb), which is 26x28 inches at 300dpi:
ftp://ftpext.usgs.gov/pub/cr/sd/sioux.falls/ImageGallery/malaspina.zip
this would look sick printed out
I have a huge tiff of it, but forget where i got it from. - ben.0081, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't know that ice could be so crazy looking. Sweet.
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sarcasm is the universal language of the internet. Fluency should be a prerequisite.
- Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm surprised nobody has commented on how much this looks like a fractal. I wonder if you made a fractal equation to look like this, how long would the equation be?
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0beautiful
- SgtSmegma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it me or does anyone else see the polar bear drinking a coke in the upper left?
- Sasabune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Highly cool. Looks like some molten metal pouring from the top.
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ask a ninja!
( http://www.askaninja.com for non-cool people who don't know what that is.) - 1111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it looks like a native american sand painting, which are neat :>
- jadez03, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I live in Alaska...anyone know WHICH glacier this is? I could probably post a pic...
- mattrmcg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is ti just me or does this look like a picture of the ending sequence for 2001: A Space Oddessy? Inever quite understood the ending, something to do with multicolored things and an old man in a white room (please explain if you know)
- AnotherIdiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool.
- toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's the Google Earth link: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php/Number/307304
- nazsco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3anyone can spot the place on google map?like to see the diference to the regular spectrum
- andrethegiant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1is this bird's eye view? i can't seem to picture how it looks in reality
- brilliant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SO whats up with that?
Maybe its just me but doesnt the picture somehow remind you of the Firefox logo? - Omni_Infinate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The glacier is obviuosly melting
- magusg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Now my wallpaper, dugg...
