- dimmerswitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Updated: It's eBay
- DiggChainey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I heard a rumor that Pligg will also be acquired for 4 million.
- samsoniter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9great. get ready to start seeing eBay pages while you're stumbling around..
- marketnet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Yeah, looks like ebay is going to acquire StumbleUpon. Maybe they'll integrate Ebay items into stumbleupon and let you agree or disagree as to whether or not the ebay item is good or not.
- marketnet, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Looks like ebay is acquiring StumbleUpon for $40 - $45 million. Maybe they will integrate StumbleUpon into Ebay and allow you to agree or disagree on ebay items.
- Alucardbsm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I'm officially going to stop using stumbleupon.
- Nekko17, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Why is everyone being so dramatic about this? In the long run I predict the majority of people won't even know.
- 40bslove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You know its better that its ebay, they are less intrusive than aol , i would have understood your cries if it was aol , they have a more than proven record of ruining product's, take for example winamp . So far so good its ebay not aol, so before you go jumping off, wait and see how thing turn out. Personaly i like the updated site a lot better than there old site, the improvements in the last couple months have been very nice.
- eurokc98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I love StumbleUpon but eBay hasn't really shown any innovation nor do they improve any of the properties they acquire. Skype, Paypal and the others are relatively unchanged since they were acquired.
This sucks.- kaykfrink, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5I didn't know Skype was bought by eBay. When did that happen?
- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5when you were living under your rock. sorry, couldn't resist.
- SickFinga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
But I have a feeling Ebay will screw it up.
- Fraff5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15R.I.P. Stumbleupon Awesomeness
Another great thing gone to waste by a large corporation. :/ - bendedavis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I used to use StumbleUpon for a while, it was pretty cool. It'd be sweet if Digg had a plugin like that where you could just digg pages up or down and post comments on em.
- koolaiddude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1that might be the greatest idea iv seen in along time? Surprised something like this dosen't already exist.
- Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3This is like Apple buying Digg...Or did this already happen?
- Volred, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2What is this? Just another takeover move to acquire more assets, and profit?
When companies are acquired by larger richer companies. The acquired company loses its innovation, drive, and any creative ideas.
Lets assume that Mac had been bought out by Microsoft..... If Microsoft kept it as a computer company, we definitely would not see iTunes or the iPod or any of the other cool products that Mac is creating.
Large corporate buyouts are bad bad bad.- Quakes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Umm.. Apple IS a large corporation. And "Mac" isn't creating anything.
- dreicher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I fail to see how this is "bad bad bad". As a software-engineer, I say its the "circle of life".
1. Bright people find a need and fill it with new software application
2. New software application is found useful by Joe Public
3. New software company picks up market momentum, continues to innovate
4. New software company gets bought out by larger entity, bright people are rewarded for their work
5. Big software company lets new acquisition whither
6. Bright people innovate on shoulders of original concept with new software application

- deathseeker25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I also don't like too much the idea of eBay acquiring StumbleUpon: the freedom of choice, publishing content and even social bookmarking quality may reduce and it will become one more of eBay's marketing engines. Well, that's just myself dreaming a little bit, but if eBay acquired StumbleUpon they want something in return. And they will surely get it.
- TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I was hoping for Google to get that one. :-(
Eric Wilson- VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -1/+4Erik Wilson = Douche
- Zaldor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using StumbleUpon for 2 years now, I hope that the fact they got bought doesn't change anything... or I'll be discontinuing my usage of SU... no more "tap. tap. tap."
- jumanji69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This sucks... I bet ebay will shutting down the pr0n categories. Yet another reason to hate ebay
- nathanwalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Oh man, now stumbleupon is going to suck.
*uninstalls the extension* - mikesherov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sometimes companies are acquired for architecture that runs the site. I think they'll probably keep SU the way it is, and just make another SU that is for eBay, like an eBay stumbler.
- makmenace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0According to TechCrunch.com, the actual deal is believed to be worth $40-45 million. I'm actually surprised that eBay would make an acquisition this small. It seems more like a Yahoo-type acquisition.
- dixit13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Stubleupon has great potential and its already a popular site ....than y sell it?...hmmm....but for somewhere around 70 million, its pretty much OK sell it off!
Websoup--> Believe me or not "Sharing" is the one common word which you has and you will find, behind the each successful site (past/ future). -- http://websoup.blogspot.com/2006/01/most-promising-things-on-internetnext.html- SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's the right time to sell it. Mozilla is implementing a somewhat-but-not-quite similar service in Firefox, so they can't be sure they'll stay relevant for long. Sell it while you're sure it's worth something, invest that money wisely, and never worry again.
- pitfallharry, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I just heard eBay's also buying your mom.
- dixit13, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Stubleupon has great potential and its already a popular site …Y to sell it??.....hmmm....But for somewhere around 70 million, its pretty ok sell it off!
Some interesting posts --> www.websoup.blogspot.com - skored, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Supposedly it's just a rumor - I just saw this:
The blogosphere is abuzz with rumors that eBay is acquiring StumbleUpon, but they're "just rumors," Garrett Camp, one of StumbleUpon's founders just told me on the phone. "There have been rumors before and that's what they are now," Camp said.

- BigDaddyBucyk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0 i like ebay and i like stumbleupon, maybe they'll go together like porn and wanking?
- 5hinmyoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2great. i hope su adds an "ebay" category to the toolbar that branches off into 1024 different product categories, so i can finally stumble old xboxes and socks.
