- mattdr488, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks like this town is real

Make your ***** signs out of concrete.

- gatorsrule21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who care if its not technology related? i thought it was funny.
and what is the W**k name at the bottom mean? I can't think of any word that the would need to censor that starts with w and ends with k - alexhhhh, on 11/28/2008, -0/+0Wow I thought this was fake because of the last paragraph (cities like Windpassing and Wank On The Lake), but they're all real places. Weird.
Here's a wikipedia article with weird place names.

not digg - masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0rm999: I don't mean to be harsh, either, but sometimes that's the only way to get through to some people. But I'm glad you understand. (For the record, I stay at slashdot because of 2 reasons: generally good comments, and that there are fewer stories and, although some are stupid and offtopic, there's also, by nature, less crap to wade through before seeing a worthwhile story.)
I agree light stories are nice, but tech, news, and funny/light aren't mutually exclusive. Reuters Oddly Enough is proof of that. Just gotta look a little.
As for the mod points, I agree, we need some sort of moderation. I saw somebody propose a reasonable solution, I added a little to the mix. My first idea was that the number of required diggs should be based on the number of active users (active referring to having logged in over X period). Fifteen was fine in the beginning, but then too many people came. It moved up to twenty-five, but that's still too few. Anyway, after this is the original proposition: that people get mod points based on their submissions. Default 0, lose points for stories that get enough reports to bury it, gain points for front-pages. Of course the reports are worth more negative points than front-pages are worth positive points. But the idea is that these points determine how much your digg is "worth".
On the other hand, this would break the democratic, non-hierarchical idea. But it'd be nice to see some sort of rhyme and reason around here. - masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Don't you notice all the different Digg categories on the front page?"
Yeah, in fact, I do. In fact, the categories are, believe it or not, /technology-related/. Imagine that! Somehow, though, I'm missing the "Irrelevant and non-tech" category you seem to be alluding to.
Remember folks
links != miscellaneous
Digg != Fark
Digg != del.icio.us - nOOBert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/08/15/austrian_signs/

Don't you notice all the different Digg categories on the front page? Get over it. - fugitivALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't get to FARK at work, i digg it ;) It's a "social bookmarking" site... not strictly tech, check out all the topics...
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0masterzora: sorry, I didn't mean to be so harsh. I understand what you mean - I left slashdot because the stories were starting to frequently become stupid and offtopic. But it is nice to have a light story like this mixed in sometimes.
Perhaps this site should have a mod point system, like slashdot, to stop people who don't understand the point of the site from "over-digging" crap to the front page - masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ALiEN: apple, deals, design, gaming, hardware, links, linux/unix, mods, movies, music, programming, robots, science, security, software, technology Which part of that is not tech? Also, you are misunderstanding the "social bookmarking" clause of the about. For reference, the full quote: "Digg is a technology news website that combines social bookmarking, blogging, RSS, and non-hierarchical editorial control." Unless krose failed out of an english class or two, no part of that sentence says "non-tech" in anyway. the "social bookmarking, blogging, RSS, and non-heirarchical editorial control" refer to the implementation, not the content. They refer to how the "technology news" is presented.
rm999: Yeah, you probably do. And I also know I speak for a lot of people when I tell people not to post non-tech on Digg. Unfortunately for you, the FAQ doesn't say "Shut up, masterzora", but it does say "Digg is a technology news website". Similarly, the submit page guidelines don't say "Shut up, masterzora", but they do say "Quality Technology Content: Is your story technology related?"
And, I'm not taking a potshot when I say this, but you might not understand where I'm coming from since you guys are so new to this site. In the beginning, when dupes were infrequent and people stayed on topic, Digg was perfect. Having never experienced this Digg, you guys probably don't know why I fight so hard for a pure Digg, but I assure you that it is a good cause. - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I speak for a lot of people when I say shut up masterzora
- masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0"Digg is a technology news website"
If you know it's not tech (or even news for that matter), then don't submit it. Submit it to Fark or del.icio.us, but not Digg.
