twitter.com — This is proof enough that Stephen Colbert is a Digger! Now I love him more than ever.
- 3156 diggs
- digg it
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -43/+252He has mentioned Digg on his show in the past but this confirms it.
- macbwizard, on 05/19/2008, -5/+68The only thing this confirms is that the user Stephen T. Colbert on Twitter watches Diggnation... whether or not this is the real Colbert is another question.
The fact that this twitter user resorts to the technique of following as many people as possible in an attempt to get others to follow him is not something I'd suspect that a big-name guy like Colbert would have to do.- DustinHill, on 05/19/2008, -1/+40It's odd how some people are so willing to believe stuff like that with almost no proof.
- ParticleMan420, on 05/19/2008, -1/+7did you not just see a picture of it on the internet?
OF COURSE its true!?!?!!!!111!! - Tiak, on 05/19/2008, -1/+8http://twitter.com/StephenTColbert/statuses/797557 ...
- EvilFerret, on 05/19/2008, -3/+23What I find more interesting is how so many people refuse to believe somebody like Stephen Colbert goes to Digg or watches Diggnation. It's as if people believe celebs have no lives when not on camera, or or always going to VIP parties 24/7. Believe it or not, they do have semi-normal lives when they're at home. They watch tv shows/movies, surf the internet and play video games just like anybody else.
Of course they're not going to go around advertising what their XBL username is, because they'd get spammed by a bunch of kids "OMFG R U RLY HIM!?" "No u not him" "lol ghey stop fakin"... ect. Same would go with places like Digg and other forms of internet communities.
Just my 2cents,
Bill Gates - bradleyland, on 05/19/2008, -4/+2It's not that we disbelieve Colbert watches Diggnation, it's just that we don't necessarily believe the twitter user in question is him. It's pretty clear by content on Colbert's show that he has a good feel for what is making the rounds on the internet, so it is not outside the realm of possibility that he watches the show. But we appreciate your input, Bill. Thanks for swinging by.
- bradleyland, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1What now!?

- Brutis, on 05/19/2008, -4/+162So I can sign up as Barack Obama and say I watch diggnation and yall will give me a 6k digg story. Awesome, brb.
- Niightwitch, on 05/19/2008, -10/+1Barak?
- nreynolds, on 05/19/2008, -5/+1i don't get it.
- Niightwitch, on 05/19/2008, -10/+1Barak?
- ronk, on 05/19/2008, -7/+4Makes you wonder...is he doing this because he loves it or because he wants the crowd?
- Locke23, on 05/19/2008, -1/+9He has enough crowd anyways.
He doesn't have to show he watches diggnation to get diggers to watch him.
- Locke23, on 05/19/2008, -1/+9He has enough crowd anyways.
- mgoodson, on 05/19/2008, -3/+12this confirms that someone wants alex to think they're stephen colbert so they'll get an xbox360.
why do people digg things so blindly?- therightclique, on 05/19/2008, -4/+3That's idiotic. Why would Alex give his 360 to Colbert? To get publicity on the 'Report? *****.
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Exactly. Giving it to Colbert would cause outrage because it's supposed to be random.
- APDSD, on 10/07/2008, -0/+0Colbert is hilarious! I had no idea though he was a digger! Very cool! http://www.anchorpointdesignsd.com/graphic_design. ...
- therightclique, on 05/19/2008, -4/+3That's idiotic. Why would Alex give his 360 to Colbert? To get publicity on the 'Report? *****.
- AmICoolNow, on 05/19/2008, -13/+5If Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose went on Colbert's show (or vice versa) the universe would probably explode from the awesomeness.
- therightclique, on 05/19/2008, -6/+12If that is how you define awesomeness, you are a huge piece of ***** and i hope you fall on a rake and die.
- loroleg, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Spread branston pickle on no more heroes. I dare you!
- robbh66, on 05/19/2008, -5/+1Breaking: Celebrities use internet sites! HOLY *****! Someone call the press!
Seriously, you losers are starved for attention if this gets you off. - akira117, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1http://www.colbertnation.com/?s=Twitter
Reported inaccurate. - kazimir22, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1i LOVE trolling
- macbwizard, on 05/19/2008, -5/+68The only thing this confirms is that the user Stephen T. Colbert on Twitter watches Diggnation... whether or not this is the real Colbert is another question.
- jiller, on 05/19/2008, -20/+181And I didn't think he could get any cooler.
- 4d669, on 05/19/2008, -4/+70His writers watch diggnation and his writers couldn't get any cooler.
- affanjam, on 05/19/2008, -0/+16Ok he is on digg right now!
http://twitter.com/StephenTColbert/statuses/814622 ... - gmprunner, on 05/19/2008, -18/+4He sure could get funnier...
- tedhead2k, on 05/19/2008, -9/+10Watching diggnation makes him cooler? I think your definition of "cool" is somewhat skewed.
- eng1ne, on 05/19/2008, -45/+7He's on Twitter too, btw. http://www.twitter.com/StephenTColbert .
- mandyvan, on 05/19/2008, -8/+0Yea, and he's following me for some odd reason. Cool!
- therightclique, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2.....idiot.....
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -0/+30I think that's pretty self-explanatory from the submission.
- Roger, on 05/19/2008, -7/+7I kinda doubt that he personally posts there.
More likely some intern from the show does.- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -2/+13It seems like he's a cool enough guy to use Twitter on his own. He mentions some things on his show that I see on Digg. (the Bill O Reilly rage video) I bet either him or one of his writers use Digg regularly.
- musleypope, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Cool enough to use twitter on his own? I wasn't aware that any cool people used twitter.
- mark076h, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3you never know some people put alot of time and effort into some of the heated political discussions that go on here.
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -2/+13It seems like he's a cool enough guy to use Twitter on his own. He mentions some things on his show that I see on Digg. (the Bill O Reilly rage video) I bet either him or one of his writers use Digg regularly.
- mandyvan, on 05/19/2008, -8/+0Yea, and he's following me for some odd reason. Cool!
- dozer2k5, on 05/19/2008, -14/+219He must surf digg as well because he knows of this story 20 diggs in. http://twitter.com/StephenTColbert/statuses/814545 ...
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -1/+71So Mr. Colbert. What's your Digg username? :)
- Ph0biA, on 05/19/2008, -18/+1http://digg.com/users/bbshark
I'm not saying it him, but he just created an account today and his only two activities include Steven Colbert related articles.- Niightwitch, on 05/19/2008, -2/+8My guess is he would not be so vain as to go on Digg and search out only articles that relate to him.
- MavRevMatt, on 05/19/2008, -7/+6http://digg.com/users/stephencolbert ?
Probably not.- souljaboytellem, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1I don't think his favorite video would be Bush lying about something
- 4d669, on 05/19/2008, -14/+13facepalm.jpg
only in digg do idiots actually believe Colbert himself has time to surf digg instead of the already obvious and admitted reality of his writers always reading, writing, researching and thinking everything up for him.- souljaboytellem, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2It's not like hes busy every second of every day, sure his writers go on the Internet and look up *****, but it's not unbelievable that he himself goes on every once in awhile to see what people are saying or blogging about him.
- macbwizard, on 05/19/2008, -0/+39I'd say that Archeologist, the one who submitted this story is the same person who runs "Colbert's" twitter.
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Actually, I'm http://twitter.com/PengXiao. I've been digging for 2.5 years.
- al13n, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I totally expected to see someone making a new account with username StephenColbert and replying to this thread when i saw your comment.
- Ph0biA, on 05/19/2008, -18/+1http://digg.com/users/bbshark
- splobk, on 05/19/2008, -1/+15lol,"Frontpage, I'm speechless!"
http://twitter.com/StephenTColbert - curbstompery, on 05/19/2008, -0/+19After clicking on that link, and the link on the page you link to, I come back to this page. Felt like I stepped through a time paradox.
- craterburnsu, on 05/19/2008, -0/+14That or he just googles himself all day long....
- StephTColbert, on 05/19/2008, -20/+11Obviously this is my Digg name.
- rrbest, on 05/19/2008, -0/+10Steph is a girls name.
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -1/+71So Mr. Colbert. What's your Digg username? :)
- Kupotek, on 05/19/2008, -32/+2Stephen uses Twitter too :)
- MavRevMatt, on 05/19/2008, -1/+11Uh yeah... We know.
- discourse, on 05/19/2008, -19/+6He commented on being dugg via twitter :D
- bbshark, on 05/19/2008, -17/+3Actually, Stephen T. Colbert made me Twitter. It was faaaabulous!!!!
- jmpeagle, on 05/19/2008, -6/+455can someone verify if that's actually him or just someone using his name?
- ABadPerson, on 05/19/2008, -7/+34This someone does have nearly the same sense of humor as Him.
- Tiak, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3...Or just copies quotes from him and intermixes them with calling people "sir" in a passable, but excessive way...
- YesImAChick, on 05/19/2008, -2/+31Verify this one too while your at it http://twitter.com/StephenColbert.
- nickerbocker, on 05/19/2008, -2/+6That one must be real enough for Veronica Belmont to be following.
- ralphthemagi, on 05/19/2008, -2/+41Yeah. Somehow I don't think Stephen Colbert sat down and decided to add 10,000 people to his follow list on Twitter.
Upon further inspection, definitely not real.
http://twitter.com/StephenColbert/statuses/2770347 ...
http://twitter.com/StephenTColbert/statuses/779241 ...
He copies some of the same stuff (over a year old) from the other Stephen Colbert person on Twitter... which probably isn't legit either.- mithrasinvictus, on 05/19/2008, -1/+16maybe jimmy did it for him
- MavRevMatt, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Did you seriously spend the time to track that down?
Find a better hobby man.
- dotlizard, on 05/19/2008, -1/+14it's ok actually. person who does this twitter account totally has the voice down. provides amusement value on twitter, is enough (for me at least)
- audreahuff, on 05/19/2008, -2/+6It's very likely a couple of the show's producers maintaining the site.
- cmw72, on 05/19/2008, -3/+4I'm digging this ... because if it were true ... it would be the ultimate in coolness ...
That being said, I'm skeptical. I got the add notice the other day from Steven T. Colbert and while it's true that one way to get alot of followers is to follow alot of people, I'm more inclined to think that http://twitter.com/StephenColbert has a better chance of being the real Colbert.- substrom, on 05/19/2008, -6/+1prick
- jprez, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1I Don't know. I feel like that one tries too hard and http://twitter.com/StephenTColbert is more legit... has a better feel to it.
Maybe he'll mention it on his show this week.
- bjenidles, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5It is NOT him. Comedy Central and The Colbert Report have officially denied it: http://digg.com/tech_news/Dear_Digg_Stephen_Colber ...
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2Still, I'm pretty proud that stuff on Digg can carry into the real world now.
- bjenidles, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1How is an imposter's Twitter "the real world?"
- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2Still, I'm pretty proud that stuff on Digg can carry into the real world now.
- ABadPerson, on 05/19/2008, -7/+34This someone does have nearly the same sense of humor as Him.
- Cyre, on 05/19/2008, -21/+10Big deal.
- shondell, on 05/19/2008, -9/+15Well digg has become very popular nowadays and i wouldnt be surprised if other famous people use digg too.
- mark076h, on 05/19/2008, -2/+10i think i heard it on diggnation also but Elijah Wood supposedly is a huge digg fan and i am sure there are more.
- jake8689, on 05/19/2008, -0/+11any famous people who use digg please list your name
- ahoyhoy, on 05/19/2008, -1/+20ahoyhoy = Jesus H. Christ.
- trevorh, on 05/19/2008, -0/+12Jesus I have always wondered what the H. stood for and I feel this is an amazing opportunity to find out please tell me.
- Locke23, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Oh *****.. Crap, wait.. can I curse?
*****, I did it again.. sorry man.
Wait, can I call you man?
oh this is tough.
Anyways, how are you? haven't heard from you in a while. - Niightwitch, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1niightwitch = God the Father
- t0x2c, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Jesus Christ...
- timewarp424, on 05/19/2008, -0/+27timewarp424 = Rick Astley
- gannondork, on 05/19/2008, -0/+24Please timewarp424, don't ever give digg up.
- Locke23, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4***** THING SUCKS.. I just got Rick Rolled.
- slifty, on 05/19/2008, -0/+7slifty = Batman
- jazzguitar18, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4jazzguitar18 = bob dole
- sfrench, on 05/19/2008, -0/+11kevinrose = Kevin Rose ... just sayin

- afx114, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1afx114 = aphex twin
- Maver1c, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1maver1c = tom cruise? i swear, my name is not supposed to be Top Gun reference!!
- souljaboytellem, on 05/19/2008, -2/+1Souljaboytellem= uh...duh?
- ahoyhoy, on 05/19/2008, -1/+20ahoyhoy = Jesus H. Christ.
- bob12321, on 05/19/2008, -1/+6Do you have no memory of http://digg.com/users/Albertpacino , One of the top posters on Digg for a good amount of time.
- withoutamartyr, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5Is this supposed to be Al Pacino?
His first name is Alfredo.- Archeologist, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I've talked to the guy. He isn't THE Al Pacino.
- withoutamartyr, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5Is this supposed to be Al Pacino?
- Axon77, on 05/19/2008, -14/+220,000? I missed the latest diggnation. What's the deal?
- Ph0biA, on 05/19/2008, -23/+55Now, if he would just endorse Obama; he would out rank Kevin Rose as the digg Poster Boy.
Either way, He's still my hero =D- alenox, on 05/19/2008, -1/+29You want his character to endorse Obama? that seems unlikely...
- kevinwiz, on 05/19/2008, -1/+18Why the hell would you want him to do that? The show wouldn't be funny any more. In case you didn't know, the whole point is for him to be a neocon
- Ph0biA, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1I'm glad everyone didn't catch that I wasn't making a suggestion, simply "making a note here". On some slight possibility, that he would endorse Obama, the diggers around the universe would likely go into a frenzy and he would be the new "Kevin Rose" of digg. Like I said, I'm not making some sort of a suggestion or anything, just stating something that would likely happen (a prophecy if you will).
- odganarb, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2As a regular viewer of the Colbert Report, and a conservative (not neocon, just the regular kind), I must say that it's fairly evident what Colbert ACTUALLY thinks about the issues that he discusses on his show. That being said, it doesn't preclude me from enjoying the comedy that he presents.
- teh_spazz, on 05/19/2008, -1/+17Why do you have to mention Obama?
- CTK14A, on 05/19/2008, -5/+10We must find him at once. Reply to this comment with haste, Colbert, and ye shall not be mistreated.
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 05/19/2008, -4/+16Right on. Colbert rules. :)

- joshdevine, on 05/19/2008, -4/+13I also find it interesting that Colbert also twitters with Leo Laporte
- sputnike, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3That just confirms that my boss (Leo) is actually a cool guy, not just a guy who pays me to type crap haha.
- leonardoty, on 05/19/2008, -7/+45I KNEW that man would make a great president.
Colbert/Colbert 2009 - xdviper, on 05/19/2008, -11/+6I want to watch John Stewart

- Morte42, on 05/19/2008, -1/+16Or perhaps the writers of his current-events show happen to know that people are on digg?
- chrissku, on 05/19/2008, -7/+7He's a very brilliant comedian. Colbert's brand of comedy and fresh and intelligent. Love it.
- Mediaright, on 05/19/2008, -7/+266Hey kids...don't know how to tell you this...BUT IT'S A FAKE!!!
We've seen these since day one on Twitter. Clinton had one, John Stewart had one, Letterman too. In-fact, there are multiple Stephen Colberts on Twitter! Unless anyone can verify it's the real guy, don't buy into this.- lepton, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1The Bill Clinton guy is funny! And doesn't spam a lot of twitters.
- Cam_86, on 05/19/2008, -1/+119Wow... I thought most diggers were smarter then this. It isnt hard to set up a twitter account with the name Stephen Colbert, list colbertnation.com as the home page, and post in the same fashion that Colbert talks.
- terracottapai, on 05/19/2008, -9/+34Half of Digg thinks 9/11 was an inside job and that Ron Paul still has a chance to win the Republican nomination, so I don't know why you're surprised.
For proof, watch how many I get buried for saying that.- Blandyman, on 05/19/2008, -5/+5Well no ***** we believe it! IT'S ALL TRUE!
/sarcasm
- Blandyman, on 05/19/2008, -5/+5Well no ***** we believe it! IT'S ALL TRUE!

- chimx, on 05/19/2008, -4/+59Not only that, he also uses google.
:-O - bouche, on 05/19/2008, -4/+27you guys are talking about stephen colbert as if it's a surprise that he is aware stuff like digg. I have news for you, he's a real person and has internet access.
- shawnanigans, on 05/19/2008, -1/+12*****!!! Celebrities and girls are not real people and they don't have internets. They aren't real people because I haven't been able to touch either of them.
- Professr, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5You've touched guys?
- shawnanigans, on 05/19/2008, -1/+4I'm a guy and because I can't touch girls I sure as hell have touched myself.
- souljaboytellem, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2@shawnagans- go to a corner at 12 at night, wait for woman to walk up, tell her your sexual needs take her to ally, perform your sexual needs, pay her, go home and go back on Digg
- bouche, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1this isn't about grand theft auto.
- Professr, on 05/19/2008, -0/+5You've touched guys?
- Tweekster, on 05/19/2008, -7/+2I am kind of shocked that someone as famous and unfunny as him would be on digg. wait no, that makes a lot of sense.
- shawnanigans, on 05/19/2008, -1/+12*****!!! Celebrities and girls are not real people and they don't have internets. They aren't real people because I haven't been able to touch either of them.

- solarweasel, on 05/19/2008, -1/+13i don't think it's really him. :
- irvin666, on 05/19/2008, -10/+8He updated it again, "front page? I'm speechless!"
- Kupotek, on 05/19/2008, -7/+1Yeah, how cool it would be if it were the real Colbert.

2. I want the Xbox360
4. Where is 3.
3. Do we know for sure that this is really colbert and not just one of his writers or web guys writing this?- gannondork, on 05/19/2008, -1/+14I think that Colbert can easily afford a 360. Maybe not a PS3, but definitely a 360.
- purelithium, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4Nice.
- gannondork, on 05/19/2008, -1/+14I think that Colbert can easily afford a 360. Maybe not a PS3, but definitely a 360.
- Kupotek, on 05/19/2008, -3/+12We will only know for sure if he mentions it on his show. I challenged him to do so... now we wait...
- staeiou, on 05/19/2008, -4/+10I'm sure that his writers watch Diggnation, as well as read Digg, reddit, fark, etc. In fact, I'm sure that at least one staff member at Leno, Letterman, and all the other late night shows is tasked to see what stories are percolating up through the Internet.
- h4mx0r, on 05/19/2008, -9/+2I want 360 :(
- W00DR0W, on 05/19/2008, -25/+3I can't stand his show, 30 minutes of pure sarcasm and I'm tired of it after the first five.
- flipz4, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3hah...so you watch it then?
- CptSpackJarrow, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1I'd say I hate sarcasm, but I would be being sarcastic.
- Dohko_Xar, on 05/19/2008, -9/+1Holy Bejesus!
- gdagreat, on 05/19/2008, -3/+10submitter sounds like he has a mancrush
- RiMac, on 05/19/2008, -1/+7I think we're beyond mancrush and into manswoon season.
- Tweekster, on 05/19/2008, -5/+0welcome to digg. the people fawning over that talentless hack would be on their knees in half a second if they could.
- jaychuck, on 05/19/2008, -7/+1He noticed it too.
http://twitter.com/StephenTColbert/statuses/814622 ... - hocusposus, on 05/19/2008, -2/+6If this really was his account, he would have mentioned it on the report
- Kupotek, on 05/19/2008, -3/+6There is still no proof that is the real Colbert, and I'm guessing it's not unless he takes me up on my challenge and mention Kitty Safe Network and kittens on the internets on his show.
- kirtap, on 05/19/2008, -7/+2Colbert, I love the bob saget impression you're pulling off, keep it up man!
- MrWally, on 05/19/2008, -4/+5Can someone please explain this to me?
I don't really understand how Twitter works or what it is really, and the link means nothing to me.- omenmedia, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/4/23/
- MrWally, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I've seen it, but I didn't understand it then, either.
- TVarmy, on 05/19/2008, -0/+20Some would call it microblogging. It's a page where you write down small thoughts that can be expressed in a small number of characters (160 max, I believe?). This may sound like a very limited blog, but that's kind of the point. You send in small, stream of consciousness snippets about what your doing, where you are, little random things you came up with, etc. It's also updatable by text message and speech to text service Jott, as well as a few other means, such as widgets so that you can post from anywhere.
Twitter isn't so much about adding something new to blogging software capabilities, but it's more about encouraging a new style of blogging.
Long answer short: It's a blog made up of facebook status messages.- Pyroteq, on 05/19/2008, -2/+5Basically, it's for 13 year old emo girls who think the entire world wants to know what they had for breakfast or how many slices of cheese were on their sandwich they ate for lunch.
Totally useless.

- OperatorS, on 05/19/2008, -1/+9anyone going to a taping soon? before the show starts he takes quesitons from the audience... someone should ask him if he uses twitter/digg and if these nicks are really his
- Niightwitch, on 05/19/2008, -0/+9My guess is if he does use Digg he doesn't use any name that will identify him. When you spend most of your waking life dealing with your popularity, do you really think he'd want more of the same when he comes to Digg?
- chrgrose, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Have you even watched the Colbert Report? Then again, it is satire ;)
- Andrwmorph, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3AHA! CAUGHT YOU COLBERT!

- chokeaduck, on 05/19/2008, -3/+7No clue if he uses Digg but I could have sworn it was the word of the day (or used as part of a word of the day segment)
- cdrj, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4It wasn' t the word of the day, but it was used in the segment once as part of the on screen writing. The bar on the right of the screen said "Can you Digg it?" Most people in the audience didn't get the reference.
I believe it was on the word of the day where he was talking about the guy who was tasered at a John Kerry speech (Andrew Meyer). It may be on YouTube somewhere if you are interested.- Majorcrash, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1It's really a shame that no one got it, because it was a double reference to digg and The Warriors.

- UtopiaInTheSky, on 05/19/2008, -3/+22Okay, it's obviously not the real Colbert. Fake, and buried.
