- exoendo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32I am 21. Male. Earning a degree in political science. I dont' keep a blog cause blogs are dumb, though i'll probably become a hypocrite soon enough and start one against my better judgement. Basically I am a kid with too much time on my hands. I think that's what most active diggers are like :)
- TeraByteTyrant, on 10/12/2007, -22/+2girls on the internet? where?!

- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There was a survey awhile back that got buried for being an ad. It was pretty funny as it's likely Kevin Rose's only buried submission.

- jmuchrisf, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2I'm the exact fit of all of that. Wow, doesn't surprise me the average person at Digg is like me.
- se7en, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9We're all clones. Living in the matrix. Fed canned stimuli.
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Bet you didn't know people were making MONEY off of your time and energy.
Web 2.0 is another word for "free marketing data". - gringuitica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I love Digg, but I'm also a chick that makes nowhere near $75k and I'm not in IT or Tech. I do blog, however... w/e.
- duncantuna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would be surprised if the avg. household income is anywhere near $75k. Are there people making $75k or more? Sure. But there's a boatload of teenagers on Digg that make close to zero, which would bring the average way down.
- version01, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1What do female internet users read anyways? careful research can probably profit millions.

I can't believe there aren't more women here. I'm heading over to iVillage. - Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Uhh, raise your hand if you clicked on that link.

- heretic24, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13 of 15 articles on digg's page right now -- are about digg.
One of the others is written in childish text-speak: "u can upload the pic that u want on the cover and u can write also the title".
The others are, well, links to vaguely techie-related articles, some interesting, some not. And a bunch of idiots are writing comments like this one about them.
How many billion is Digg valued at again? And should Google, Microsoft, or US Steel buy it?- thejaysta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Out of all IT geeks - I like DBA's the best.....don't ask me why, but there is something about a geek that can cut sexy SQL.......

- jmholloway, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I am a girl!! *waves* Im 19 years old, and getting a degree in information science and human computer interaction design at Cornell. And I love video games... ;-)
- venir, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2and if you're hot, that makes your the ideal woman ;)
- frielander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, she is pretty hot, especially for being so into tech.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm 14, female, into C++, Linux, video games, and all that other geeky stuff.
I say there should be more geeks in the world. Come on, geek-girls, you've got to agree with me, geeky guys are hot! - Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm 16, female, into making websites (when I am not lazy) and learning about all things computer related!
Geeky guys are sexy. :D
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7> 18-39 * 64%
So I take it the other 36% are 13-14? - buk110, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0I'm border line on the statistics.
I'm an engineer, have a blog, but just miss out on the house hold income. But then again, I'm only 22 and make 51K a year fresh out of college. So I guess it's not all that bad - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Other than not being male or not being in IT, I fit the stats.
- cyclotron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+388% 18-39 *
Gee, wide enough range. I want to see how many under 21, how many 21-25, how many 26-30, 31-35... This large of a window doesnt really say anything.- Milo_Hoffman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I would say 13-24 would hit 99% of all comments.
- Milo_Hoffman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I would say 13-24 would hit 99% of all comments.
- Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16We all know 18-39 really means 13-22 and $75k+ means ~$24k+. There are too many ignorant, illiterate mother-***** on this site for those to be true.
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, they probably get that information from online surveys promising a gift or a chance to win something. How many people fill out that information honestly? Not many... they just want the gift at the end.
- shadekeiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Is this supposed to be surprising? :D
Although...I'm female, 16, don't have a job, and probably won't end up being an engineer anyway. Although i do have a blog.- Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -1/+868/m/va

- hodyoaten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+294% male? Is this just the way it is -- women just aren't interested in technology?

"noh their jus dum as fuk"
You can't even spell right, buddy. Poor you.- tony4moroney, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2clearly he was being sarcastic.
- Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Yah. Good one. You got me.
- MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How do they know?
- glucoseboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Uhh, where did these numbers come from? Did anyone poll us?
- jtrost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's what I was thinking. I don't ever recall a demographic survey.
- kimzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember taking it ages ago.
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4I would like to see more females on digg, are females just not in "tune" with technology as males? why are their less females? Is learning not appealing to them? I bet if it was about "paris hilton" or some other garbage, they would be all about it
- MalTheObscure, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's interesting to see these statistics. I'm in the elementary education field, and I've recently been asked to put together a project for the local Boys and Girls Club that will encourage girls to make more use of the computer lab they have there. I've been reading about the subject recently, and although male and female students do comparably well in science courses, females are much less likely to pursue science when given the choice. I don't understand why girls don't show much of an interest in science and technology, I've always loved it. (But the Paris Hilton comment is way harsh)
- Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Males tend to be more facinated with things that engage their minds. Girls tend to like things that engage their emotions. Men want to know HOW and WHY something works, girls want to know WHAT it can do for them. Not that they aren't capable, but to most girls whether or not Linux can be installed on a wireless router is as useless as a second cornhole. However, I believe that if technology and science weren't dominated by males from the get-go then we would definitely see a higher technological engagement of the female population.
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Congratulations, digitallysick - you've managed to encapsulate, in one sentence, why more women don't bother participating.
There are fewer females (they are not "less" female, unless you mean to suggest I am somehow less female for working in the tech field and reading news about it) because there are fewer women in the IT industry. But those numbers are growing.
Chauvenistic ignorance from men keeps most of us technologically-inclined women out of the discussion ring, though. We don't have the time or patience for it. - Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Men pursue this kind of thing because it makes them feel manly and women don't because it doesn't make them feel girly. It's a simple yet vicious and unstoppable cycle.
- karch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Obsidian, YOU are right. And it's even more of a vicious cycle since men prefer girly women than smart, intimidating, nonsubmissive girls.
- politech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2saska 'what many women perceive as "Chauvinistic ignorance from men keeps most of us technologically-inclined women out of the discussion ring, though. We don't have the time or intelligence for it."
there fixed that for ya.
/snark - Eriatarka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These sexist stereotypes are enraging. I'm surprised that you're all so confused as to why more girls don't participate in technology. It's exhausting having to constantly defend yourself in your field of interest.
- McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So many people are acting like the 18-39 age isn't realistic. I'm sure that is fairly acurate, it is just that the other 12% (most of which i'm sure is under 18) are the ones who bother to do 78% of the commenting. Most people with any brains are busy making their 75k+ and don't even bother to read these comments.
- Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And that's why these statistics are meaningless without information on how they were gathered.
- Wiggles2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone else think the front page moves much faster now? (i.e. more front page stories )
- vspazv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dangit. I have to be in the 99 percentile... I'm quitting my job and getting a degree in historical languages just to be different.
- TheKillDoctor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You've heard of a couch potato?
I'm a Digg Potato
(and I do have enough sense to leave my own basement) - supergeorgina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Female, 20, writer/artist/lovevidegames. Also probably really weird, I just realized, for having Digg as one of my daily visit sites.
- math20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+08.5 million uniques per month * $9 cpm * 3 = $229,500 per month!!!
That's just for the top 3 ads. - Milo_Hoffman, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1The new DIGG sucks...way too much political *****, and way too much left wing crap.
Back to slashdot for me...its been a nice run but its clear that there is a shark tank in the parking lot. - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+139/M/WFT
- Lemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's one Digg statistic I've always wondered about... What percentage of front page diggs have the first comment modded down to -4 or lower? I'm guessing about 80%
- nikkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1female computer science / engineering / math. Desert Combat for the win.
And I wish there were more of us. But, I know what the distribution is in my university's department. Can't expect the real world to be that much different.
Females, represent!- nytsua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gotta agree same in my computer engineering department pretty close to real world. From a comment seen below, lets just avoid the stalking.

- wyngnut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Nice to see all the "women" coming forward. Digg is going to be the next place for myspace type stalkings.... Gotta love a place where the ratios are as ***** up as SoCal.
- mjenkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"94% male? Is this just the way it is -- women just aren't interested in technology?"
I don't know about that...I fit all the statistics in that page except for the gender
38yo Female IT Executive, got my own blog for my travelogue and I make a very nice income...
I also create websites for fun (Webby-award nominee a few years back), guild leader in DAOC, CoH and WoW, and I spend just as much money on technology/gadgets as I do on jewelry and manicures.
Oh, and I'm newly single....party time! - whiterajah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Another one they left out is % still living with their parents :)
- fooplex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IOW, 90% of you should not be here and are just procrastinating on projects that are taking much more time than they ought to. Go back to work!
- ogletree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I fit that description to the T.

- elfhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm 21, female, majoring in electrical engineering, and interested in computers, video games and programming.
- ubergmr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+152% IT professionals, developers or engineers, so thats why we have such high quality comments here on digg.
- thejaysta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess i'm in the 6% of the female Digg population.....I'm 28/ have a B.Sci (Comp.Sci) and lurve my geek toys!
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ha, I'm officially old. I'm actually a bit surprised at the household income. Almost two thirds report income of 72k or over. Pretty impressive stat: lots of folks here who like tech and have the l3wt to buy it.
And, judging by the comments, this thread has now made a record for the number of comments by women, and probably represents a significant fraction of the female digg readership. - wdarling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Huh. I guess I'm in the minority here. As usual.
At my work, all the head IT people are women. Yay. - lotusleaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"God gave Noah the rainbow sign, then he said it's the fire next time"
- mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So you mean to tell me all these ads that I luckily rarely notice cost $800/wk. Interesting. Really love how digg continues get bigger. I can remember back to those last TechTv days where they let Kev go and now he can just sit there and laugh at them.
- RIPtechtv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With the power of spyware could we have got these stats. I remember when I would come home and watch tech tv every day. Man do I miss it.
- alexa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man...am I the only over 40 woman on this site? So sad......C'mon, there have to be more of us who are in tech.....
