- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -22/+130krystyl?? what the ***** kind of name is that? did the parents think it was cute to give their daughter a stripper name? i can understand crystal, it doesn't look like it belongs on a marquee under "3 DOLLAR LAPDANCE TUESDAY", but 'krystyl'? just look at the word. wtf is wrong with parents today?
- HenvY, on 12/31/2007, -2/+85Sprint's new customer? Did I miss the breaking news report on that one?
- RIMberry, on 12/31/2007, -6/+56Sprint has 3 plans:
1. Unlimited Usage = $59.99
2. 40MB Usage = $39.99 + $.001/KB for a max of $99 a month
3. No Plan = .03/KB no maximum amount per month
Judging from those 3 plans we can eliminate plans 1 and 2, that leaves plan 3.
It's obvious someone just didn't add the plan to her account, go into a Sprint store and get it straightened out instead of posting this nonsense on the internet to get your 15 minutes of fame...
Buried. - sbetchel, on 12/31/2007, -2/+42Must be the new fad. I've already seen like three "$xx,xxx.xx bill from phone company" articles in the last 2 weeks. /bored
- bittermang, on 12/31/2007, -0/+35"Why haven't cell phone companies figured out some way to prevent these huge bills?"
Because John from Accounting keeps saying, "Look, if we can just get one customer to pay one of these bills, we'll be set." - blatantninja, on 12/31/2007, -2/+30Sprint has some of the worst billing practices of the industry. To say they are incompetent is an insult to the incompetent. In 1998, I received a bill from them for just over $400. I was a bit shocked to say the least. Upon inspection of the bill, I found that outside my normal charges, which were about $60 a month, there was one call that accounted for over $300!!
The call in question was reported as having lasted just over 13 hours.
I called Sprint and figured it would be easy to get them to remove the charge. Obviously I didn't make the call as I explained to them:
1) The call allegedly began while I was in class (about 8 pm) and did not end until about 11:30 AM the next day which would have meant that in addition to skipping class (yeah, did that more than one!), I would have had to stay up the entire night on the call and then shown up to work 4 hours late (our just chatted on my phone during the morning meetings).
2) Even if I had a desire to talk to someone for over 13 hours, my phone had a maximum battery charge of 4 hours and had a well known defect that resulting in the phone over heating and turning off if you tried to talk on it while charging for more than about 10 minutes.
So not only would it be unlikely I would make this call, it was simply physically impossible.
Their response? Pay the bill and if they discovered it was incorrect, they'd credit me back!
NO WAY IN HELL. I fought with them for about two weeks, and they threatened to disconnect my phone for non-payment. Finally, I got someone that wasn't a complete idiot and they agreed to remove the charge. - littleodie914, on 12/31/2007, -4/+29Why haven't cell phone companies figured out some way to prevent these huge bills? Attach red flags to any bills over $2000, or something? It just seems ridiculous that this issue has gotten so much press, but still continues to happen.
- nsummy, on 12/31/2007, -3/+24Although its too bad she got the run around, she should call Sprint about the bill before writing the consumerist. Wouldn't calling into customer service be the most logical step before writing a huge rant about an obvious mistake? Sometimes I think that site is really grasping for straws with some of these complaints.
- hayzeus, on 12/31/2007, -1/+204. The Platinum Pro/Gold Plan = $300.00/minute. Mainly exists so you can impress your friends.
- Lesh, on 12/31/2007, -5/+23The thing i pity her most for though is her name. Krystyl? For God's sake, what the ***** were her parents on?
- monkeyrun, on 12/31/2007, -2/+18They should limit those bills to address within the Beverly Hills area though.
They'll probably never notice the difference. - Rahodeb, on 12/31/2007, -2/+17They've renamed it to the "Chihuahua in a handbag" plan. Sprint will send a copy of your bill to all of your friends on scented paper.
- Rahodeb, on 12/31/2007, -0/+10Hmm, Krystyl, what could they possibly be on...
- ilves7, on 12/31/2007, -2/+12yea, it does come off as the parents just not knowing how to spell.
- bcarl314, on 12/31/2007, -0/+9How to deal with Sprint...
I've had Sprint for a few years now and here are some tips I've found over the years...
1) NEVER EVER EVER extend your contract. You want a new phone? Pay full price. Sure, they'll offer you a $200 rebate to extend your contract, but the reality is they will charge you a $200 / line fee to cancel before the 2 year extension. 3 lines? = $600! Simply buy the phone outright. It will give you a lot of flexibility later on.
2) Sign up for the minimum term only. They DO have a 1 year term for your initial contract. They don't tell you this, but they do. Once you're out of that 12 month period, you have a huge negotiating position with them because you can cancel FREE AND CLEAR! ;)
3) BEFORE calling customer service about an issue, ask yourself, "Are you going to cancel if it's not resolve?". If so, call the bank / CC that's running your charges FIRST and put stop payment or do not authorize on your account for Sprint first. If you do cancel, all too often they just charge you $200 / line without checking if they can. And getting that back is a PITA!
4) EVERY TIME I've talked to a "Customer 'Care'" representative, I always get the "I'll take 1/2 off for our mistake.". When they do that, call ***** and say you want to cancel your account. They immediately transfer you to their "Customer Retention" department. These guys appreaently have god access to the billing system because they're the only ones that will give you 100% back. The first question they ask (EVERY TIME) is "are you going to cancel your account if we can't help you today". There is only 1 answer to this "YES"!
I know this sounds like a nightmarish company, but I've been with several cell phone providers over the past 4 - 5 years, they're all the same. I've learned the Sprint system and how to make it work for me. I offer these as tips to other Sprint customers. - EdwardsNH, on 01/01/2008, -0/+9Hey whitezombie, STFU, that's my cousin's name... oh wait, she did work at a stripclub a couple of years ago... Nevermind
- MikeCerm, on 12/31/2007, -4/+13Instead of Jane or Mary, what if you spelled them Jaiyn or Mayree? Would that make them more creative?
My name is Mike. It's boring and common, but I'm glad my parents didn't get creative and name me Myke. - jxself, on 12/31/2007, -1/+9She was obviously not provisioned correctly in the Sprint system... Nothing to see here... Moving on...
- sstidman, on 12/31/2007, -0/+8Well, if you are an aspiring model / designer, you welcome any opportunity to attention whore yourself.
Here is her "hire me I'm a model" web site: http://www.krystyl.net
Some of those pics are SCARY. - mwalker05, on 12/31/2007, -1/+9since when did billing mistakes become newsworthy? i am getting an extra $10 more off of a rebate than advertised, should i make a video for that as well?
- diadem2, on 12/31/2007, -0/+8I had something similar too with sprint.
They didn't sign me up properly for the plan I asked for and billed me per kb instead of a flat rate.
They then canceled my service becuase I didn't pay my bill the month(s) prior. Since it was my first week, I wasn't a customer the month prior. I didn't pay my bill the month prior becuase there wasn't a bill the month prior - this was my first week with Sprint. They didn't care becuase "you can always view your bills online." Wrap that around your head for a while.
Eventually I walked into a sprint store and they took care of everything. The outsourced coustmer service obviously didn't give a crap, but the salesmen in the normal stores did. - RIMberry, on 12/31/2007, -0/+8Also judging from this we can assume she used her broadband card for around 72 hours if her 14k modem statement is somewhat correct.
- cdawzrd, on 12/31/2007, -2/+9"They sent me a new broadband card, and it the speeds it gave me were in a 14k modem speed, which is about a dial up connection speed or slower these days."
...what? - Jon20usa, on 12/31/2007, -1/+8So do I win the prize for second largest Sprint bill?
http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sprintbil ...
http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sprintbil ...
As you can see from the second image, Sprint eventually corrected the error but how in the world could they have made that large of an error? - ColorBlind, on 12/31/2007, -6/+13I think the underlying question here is why should there even be a "per kb" charge? Whom or what does it effect if i send out 5kb or 5000kb over a copper wire?
The communication industry can burn. - inactive, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6Again...it is VERY easy to avoid getting into a contract with a termination fee. Simply don't expect to get a free $250 phone every two years.
Anybody (incuding you) who bitches about contracts and then demands to have the latest and greatest phone with features you don't need for free is a hypocrite. And a moron. You have to be a real idiot to think that a company can give away $250 worth of goods for free with no guarantee that the receiver will rmain a customer long enough for you to recoup your money. - nthitz, on 12/31/2007, -3/+9She says she did if you read the article
- EBAR, on 12/31/2007, -4/+10Next time you might want to try reading the article first.
- Thuktun, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6Krystyl myth?
- NJank, on 12/31/2007, -1/+7it wouldn't make them more creative, but it would make it more likely to appear before the words "does Dallas".
- Pahtcub, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6I just wanted to show you the envelope so you know it's not a fabrication or a joke, because it is impossible to put anything but a real sprint bill in that envelope.
- viniciusfontes, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6First of all, it's not copper wire. The air is used as media, and that alone narrows the available band.
Second, if everybody starts transmitting (and receiving) more and more data, the carrier will need larger links to support all the simultaneous transmissions.
So there is a big, huge difference between sending 5kb or 5000kb. But they do charge abusively, mostly because they are (currently) the only ones that can provide an Internet connection on the road. I hope WiMAX change that scenario. - justconnor, on 12/31/2007, -1/+6Repost.
oh, wait, no it isn't. it's just the SAME STORY WITH A DIFFERENT PERSON.
we get it, people are getting screwed over by the mobile broadband service. - Vash265, on 12/31/2007, -1/+6Well, if they spelled it Mayree, I'd question their reading comprehension abilities. As for Jaiyn...I've seen stranger names.
- danarama, on 12/31/2007, -0/+5it's not real that's why she made a youtube video and told a blogger and got dugg to the front page before actually dealing with sprint.
- Rahodeb, on 12/31/2007, -1/+5"almost as much nonsense as your worthless reply, moron"
sweet irony - NJank, on 12/31/2007, -1/+5you'd rather see them be the cause of malicious corporate intent?
- bwa236, on 12/31/2007, -1/+5what were the doctors thinking when the parent(s) asked them to put that name on the birth certificate? I am sure he/she laughed inside
- scyon, on 12/31/2007, -2/+6You know, the girl is actually cute. She has good hair, a great body, a name that reminds you of a stripper and an otherwise cute face. Why should people have surgery just because they don't look exactly like some super model that you'll never date?
- pendrachken, on 12/31/2007, -5/+9I dugg you down... but who is acting like the douche?
- surfing, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Her dad wanted her to grow up to be a stripper.
- duihomer, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4She's extremely annoying. Maybe she should edit out that full minute of dead air at the end of the vid before so proudly proclaiming that it was "created - directed - edited" by herself. Dugg down as lame.
- sg1fan, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Wireless network card... I read the article quickly, and skipped the pity video of the dumbass whining about her bill. Still, no one has posted the entire detail of her plan. Without the fine print, it's just another case of stupid consumers being caught by these businesses. There are always fine print, and hidden charges and little things they hope no one will notice.
- danarama, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Internet stripper name.
- staxofmax, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3With companies with millions of service subscribers, there is bound to be more than a few billing or account management errors.
- hmunkey, on 12/31/2007, -2/+5Sprint is so ***** stupid. They put you by default on a non-data plan and charge $0.10 per kb downloaded or uploaded, and then they put On Demand info on your background so you get charged without having a chance to stop it. I downloaded a $1.99 ringtone and was slapped with a $10.00 surcharge. At the end of the month I had received $80.00 in charges for retarded *****. It took hours with customer service to get my money back.
- Mo0man, on 12/31/2007, -2/+5I think Jayne is a fine way to spell it
- blackinthmiddle, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Obsessed with another man's penis?
- phylo, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Anyone else see the phone number from the bill? 925-852-9694. Hope it wasnt hers! But she did cancel the service so I guess it doesnt matter.
- boredsam, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Sprint billed me twice for my phone, so my first bill was over $600. It took them 3 months, of me calling twice a week, to get me a refund.
