- Barackalypse, on 01/26/2009, -0/+21I bet their employees don't get a $150 early termination fee for this, do they?
- inactive, on 01/26/2009, -4/+25Does this mean I'll get reception now? Of course it doesn't.
- TheVirus, on 01/26/2009, -3/+23That's a pretty ***** up thing to do. Lay offs are one thing, but not matching 401k's? That's just cruel.
- zyklon, on 01/26/2009, -3/+22Layoffs are expected, but something that drives me insane is meddling with 401k plans.
- binford04, on 01/26/2009, -4/+22Hi, I'm Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint. Isn't it amazing what these cell phones can do? You can check Facebook, Twitter, even buy stuff.
The best part, we are firing 8,000 people because of our amazing service.
Come on, join us!
/end fancy opera music - MetalHead73, on 01/26/2009, -2/+16You know what else might die out? Family owned businesses who were barely making a living in the first place.
Sure Wal-Mart will survive. But what about my local grocery store? - umbriago, on 01/26/2009, -1/+12You put a dollar from your paycheck into a 401K account, your employer puts in a dollar.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 01/26/2009, -2/+13Not as cruel as getting a pink slip.
- harrisbradley, on 01/27/2009, -0/+10I bet the meeting where they announced this was so quiet you could hear a pin drop...
- santiago1, on 01/26/2009, -1/+11 I'd like to see what's going on with the Sprint executives, are they seeing any backlash from this or are they continuing to enjoy their perks....
- Dumbledorito, on 01/26/2009, -2/+11That's a fallacy. If the entities in our economy were at all given over to some kind of karmic justice, then Bank of America would be a giant smoking crater, and any surviving execs would be in prison. The same goes for a lot of investment banks and other businesses.
Your logic would also dictate that someone who had more money deserved to weather hard times. That doesn't take into account how he got it, be it from hard work or curb-stomping people as they got cash from the ATM. - Trifold, on 01/26/2009, -2/+11I hate that douchey CEO guy from the commercials even more now.
- bradthomas223, on 01/27/2009, -1/+10In five years of selling Sprint in central Louisiana I may have only dealt with a handful of actual honest to god Sprint screwed up the bill type situations. 98% of the time in was aholes who didn't pay the full amount of the last bill and it rolled over to the new one or they went over their minutes or downloaded games or music or ringtones etc.. Oh and of course you had parents with family plans that actually believed their lying child when the kid would say, "No mommy/daddy i didn't download 50 bucks in ring tones and go over my minutes by 500".
And as far as reception goes in central Louisiana Sprint voice quality is far superior to AT&T. I switched to AT&T for an iphone and have had more dropped calls and generally crappy voice service then I ever had with Sprint.
But go ahead and be cool on digg and bash Sprint. - fakeguy, on 01/27/2009, -1/+10SERO + non crippled phones = Great for me...
Bury away mofo's I don't care, my service is great. - qpid, on 01/26/2009, -4/+12http://www.letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=401k+match
- inactive, on 01/26/2009, -7/+14Oh please Sprint go out of business like Circuit City, I'm dying to switch to a better service.
- sgyoung, on 01/27/2009, -0/+6I have no problem with the 401k, as long as the CEO gets rid of theirs, and for whatever % cut at the bottom they do, they do it on top as well!
- borez, on 01/26/2009, -3/+8What's a 401K match?
/an explanation rather that a digg down would be more appropriate thanks. - NoLibertarians, on 01/26/2009, -0/+5That's a shame for the employees. Fortunately my wife's employer went this year from matching 50% to matching 100%. A surprise move.
- Ne007, on 01/26/2009, -3/+8I don't care about Sprint because of the way they treated me as a customer when they had a telephone market monopoly in my area.
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -0/+5And the gap between the haves and the have-nots gets a little bigger. The middle class gets a little smaller. I'm actually more concerned by the rising trend in companies stopping 401k matches. I have little faith that the "temporary" suspensions will ever actually resume in the future. First pensions went away, and now 401k matches. Seems like unless you are some unionized firefighter or cop, it's going to be damned near impossible to retire in the near future.
- davidrools, on 01/27/2009, -1/+5so you'd go to ATT/Verizon/Tmobile? They're none better. You can always "move" to a zip code where they don't offer service to avoid ETFs.
- BinaryDelt, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3My company just cut 401(k) match from 100% of the first 6% to 50% of the first 4%. Every couple of weeks I have a few less coworkers too. It's becoming "the thing to do" in corporate America.
- VaginaDrum, on 01/26/2009, -1/+4At least now there will be even less incompetency. Silver lining, etc.
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3I wouldn't call it 'awesome'. Maybe 'silver lining' but not awesome.
- yacks, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3I doubt Sprint reallly needs to lay off anyone.. I think they are just doing it.. just to trim some fat to make their CEO's more money.. Of course, they will just blame it on the "recession"
- peestandingup, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3"You know what else might die out? Family owned businesses who were barely making a living in the first place.
Sure Wal-Mart will survive. But what about my local grocery store?"
Just like Gibbon's, your local grocer is doomed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tP4yX2rkpBc - roxgod666, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3On the other hand, all the really good rising companies might have just suffered a punch or gone out of business. I don't see how leaving the biggest companies is good. Do you support monopoly or something?
- KMartSheriff, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3Holy damn that is epic.
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -1/+4I don't know about their service but their coverage sucks.
- k8tek, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2Maybe they'll stop spending all their damn money on their Nascar sponsorship now.
- unknownpoltroon, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2Lot of companies are cutting the 401k. What is that going to do to the stock market?
- Zerfram, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2dan@sprint.com
- urzishra14, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2SERO plan rocks.. it does affect me.. hopefully they don't go under.. no ATT in my area.. i'd have to go with crappy Verizon.
- camaroz06, on 01/26/2009, -2/+4This is what happens when your product and customer service suck balls, Sprint was flat out the worst cellular company I ever dealt with. Verizon by far th best, and now ATT is just ehhhh, nothing to write home to. Once m 2 yeas is up with my iPhone I will most likley go back to Verizon.
- fakeguy, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2So true, people don't know what they're doing and blame Sprint. I was a Sprint store and was laughing at some of the things people couldn't understand. I have never had ONE problem. When I call in I know how and what to ask.
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -1/+3I hope they don't notify them using text messages. It'll be a day or so before the text messages arrive.
- h4mx0r, on 01/27/2009, -2/+4I don't know about you but I have better reception than most of my friends who are on other carriers.
- rda1441, on 01/26/2009, -2/+4Just keep calling and causing them trouble. I got out of my sprint contract after 6 months, ETF free, then sued in small claims court for my trouble and got $300 on a default judgment.
I was pretty ticked, but the getting out ETF free part is pretty simple. - yuanzhoulu, on 01/27/2009, -1/+3yea well here in massachusetts sprint reception is crap.
- KMartSheriff, on 01/27/2009, -1/+2LOSE
- fakeguy, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1The only thing that can stop us is if they require plan changes like with the instinct. If that's the case thank god Ive got insurance and will just get a refurb every year. Theyll have to pry it from my cold dead hands...
- xrmb, on 01/27/2009, -1/+2401k = private retirement in USA, usually you pay a few percent of you income pre-tax in there (and can't touch it until you retire), most companies match what you pay up to a certain percentage... like 6%.
So cutting there hits you twice... now its basically a whatever is matched pay-cut, and in the future you have less money again. - AlienSpoon, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1Actually being a former employee on an employee plan (essentially SERO plan but no charge) I left and 2 months later and received a 400.00 bill... Instead of disconnecting the line they bumped it to a plan equivalent and charged me both for the monthly rate and ETF.
- Blasphemous88, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1CDMA providers are almost always behind the curve when it comes to flashy devices. I'll never forget the time Sprint presented to "new" blackberry Perl while AT&T had this for too long to even remember. Verizon at least gets aggressive and can secure deals like exclusive rights to the BB Storm. Sprint's phones are far too ugly to compare with their competitors. Their network quality is typically fine though.
- lexbaby, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1You forgot the "Pretty cool, huh?" line.
- bryantee, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1Ironic or karmic justice that all of these layoffs are going further hurt the economy?
- cubicledrone, on 01/27/2009, -0/+1Wealth for the few. Slavery for everyone else. They might as well wipe their ass on the flag. It would be less insulting than what they are doing to my neighbors.
