- Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They wont see money from him...
BUT...
If they wanted to screw up his ENTIRE LIFE, all they would have to do is 'cancel' that debt. To the tax man, a cancelled dept equals INCOME! This means that the IRS will be after money from him instead of the ISP.
The IRS is much more insistent. And they dont forgive ;p - caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Email this story to everyone you know...oh wait.
- billizm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sweet. Like the article mentions, the ISP will likely not see any of that money. It is more of a financial death sentence for the spammer. A good example to set!
- Brhine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is not from The Inquirer supermarket rag, theinquirer.net is a UK techish news site.
- olegk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Plan:
1) Start up ISP company
2) Wait for spammers
3) Profit - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Praise Jeebus.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, and the original story is from the Quad City Times, here:
http://www.qctimes.net/articles/2006/01/04/news/local/doc43bb692ac9e86281138542.txt#top
One more thing: Post to the original story, not some blog or other forum. Lame to do that. - snapya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lol PWNED
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't pass go, don't get 200$, and go to jail..
- Blackscorpion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The feel good story of the year.
- Axlrose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why isn't this directly to the Inquirer article?
- solidus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PWNED x11 billion
- AllenS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1***** the economic death sentence. I'd like to see spammers get a real death sentence!
- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Feel good is about all there is to this story.
- Brhine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Make that "This is not from the National Enquirer supermarket rag"...
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Only if he had a million!
- TridenTBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow! It would suck to be that guy. I prefer the death sentence
- chandler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thats cool
- bondg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Speaking of spammers...
I was nosing around in an Outlook newsgroup today looking for answers when I came across a post in which someone honestly was requesting that Microsoft institute a feature into the next version of Outlook that would enable a mail sender to be notified of any and all addresses the mail was forwarded to. And the addresses of all those that this forward was forwarded to. Ad infinitum.
Hey! Yeah! Great idea! Tell you what.....let's institute said functionality and then do a test. In this test, Bill Gates will pay $1.27 for each and every forward you generate. Hey waitaminnit....that sounds like the emails my mom keeps sending me...... :-( - DavisFreeberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a great statement, but they won't have a lot of luck collecting from the russian mob. It'd be nice for them to figure out a way to stop all of the zombie networks, they are the real problems.
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you called? lol. hope it's just the first step, DIE spammers !!!!. btw, /. is a legend. Their users are another thing but human beings
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good luck paying that one off...
- jpyun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+011 billion rofl.

- Pxtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Right. When do we see a similar treatment for NTP?
- spvn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol, sad case...
- Wilcox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It just gives you that warm tingaly feeling inside to know that it has finally happened.
I hope this is a lesson to other spammers in Ioha and the US. - diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good...
- vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg effect setting in...
- AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0***** spammer
- TheCheeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The level of user at Digg vs. /. becomes REALLY apparent when you compare the comments sections on identical articles. Check out the intelligent discussion regarding this matter at http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/01/05/1643220&tid=111. World of difference.
- TheCheeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Drop the period at the end of that URL. Very stupid auto-URL writer if it can't detect the end of the URL...
- teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The spammer may not be paying the court-ordered amount, but he will be paying so many court fees, lawyer fees, and fees to filling out paperwork that he will either be to busy to send spam or will run out of money and be closely watched by the government (The Man) for years to come. I don't know what he has to _not_ do or how much he has to _not_ pay to go to jail, but this guy is so deep in the hole now and only going deeper that I don't expect any make.money.fast messages from him anytime soon.
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
- floorman56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What good is the judgment if they don't have to pay anything or can't get money from anyone? The spammers will just wipe there butts with the lawsuit and hit the "spam more" button. Until SOMEONE has to write a check it will go on.
- mgreenwald, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The enquirer put out the story.....isn't that one of those "my mom slept with an alien" publications?"
Yeah it is but... If you noticed the spelling is different. The Inquirer.
I like the Inq. - NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GG!
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WRONG = "...If they wanted to screw up his ENTIRE LIFE, all they would have to do is 'cancel' that debt. To the tax man, a cancelled dept equals INCOME! This means that the IRS will be after money from him instead of the ISP...."
What the ***** are you talking about? - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"...Other sites are reporting it too.
posted by Aresef (2) at 12..."
Yeah, this just in ...."12, no wait, no 11, uh, 12 Spammers found dead in Data Mining accident...." - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Since the spammer can't pay all that, why don't they just publish his name, address, phone number, and e-mail address?
Maybe some of us would like to forward some of our 'extra' mail to him!
:-) - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"...Drop the period at the end of that URL. Very stupid auto-URL writer if it can't detect the end of the URL......"
Most Auto-URL writers that I know about only react to HARD RETURNS.
So, no digg for you! - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"...It's a great statement, but they won't have a lot of luck collecting from the russian mob. It'd ..."
Could've fooled the Company, then. Collecting money from the Russkies is pretty much a no-brainer. - holiday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Called them and verified... It is True!!! Holy CRAP Digg
- Duilen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe this would deter a few would be fishers.. although, I somehow doubt it.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Economic death penalty."
