"Spam King" dead in apparent murder-suicide.
msnbc.msn.com — The bodies of "Spam King" Edward "Eddie" Davidson, his wife, and 3-year-old daughter were found in an SUV parked in a farmhouse driveway in a rural part of Bennett, about 25 miles east of Denver. Authorities said Davidson was the apparent gunman. What a horrific ending.

- Ottogustavo, on 07/25/2008, -3/+2Stop ruining it for everyone else!
- Asianwaste, on 07/25/2008, -2/+4While I can definitely accept cowardice as a reason behind this (and Russian conspiracy is a bit far fetched), a part of me says that 21 months at a minimum security prison sentence is a bit little to commit suicide over. He made millions and was only forced to pay a fraction of his ill-gotten gains. After his prison sentence he likely had a pretty well off life ahead of him despite being loathed by the public. There seemed to be very little to be gained by escaping prison considering his sentence was so light.
There was a reason why he opted to escape from prison. Someone who'd plead guilty is likely a weak link and is likely to talk about whatever operations he was associated with. Personally I think someone wanted to sever any associations this guy had and silence him before he started talking more. I really think it's possible he was afraid for either the his own safety or the safety of his family and attempted to escape not prison but whatever potential dire threats lay before him.
This can just be evil and cowardice, but things just don't add up to me. A guy with that line of work is bound to have connections with the wrong kind of people.- MtheoryX, on 07/25/2008, -1/+3I see you, too, are an expert in CSI and Law & Order. I concur.

I can never understand when parents commit suicide, why they kill their kids? Its understandable the parents usually can make a choice, but why are they forcing their kids. Just cowards.- XTrek, on 07/25/2008, -2/+74Agreed, the guy should have done himself first...
- yikiad, on 07/25/2008, -11/+27who would he have done second?
- Elranzer, on 07/25/2008, -0/+54That's the point.
- mtschmie, on 07/25/2008, -0/+71My theory - They can't bare the thought of leaving a child to deal with the fact that dad killed both himself and mom, so they take the child with them because somehow that makes them feel less guilty. Does it make sense? No, but then again, these aren't the actions of a rational person.
- Pittance, on 07/25/2008, -10/+5Bah, that makes no sense. I mean just look how well William Murderface turned out. He is now 1/5th of the worlds 12th largest economy, right above Belgium.
- AssJuice, on 07/25/2008, -1/+9He knew the deal, they would drive until they ran out of gas and if they were not out of the Mist he would kill everyone in the car to save them from.....
- bobbi21, on 07/25/2008, -8/+3It's the same rational that most people have toward abortion. Kill the kid to prevent it from having a sucky future. If you're over the edge enough to kill yourself, I think a few year difference in killing a kid and a fetus aren't a priority at that point.
- mordeci, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I would agree with the basic theory - can't bear to 'leave' the child, so they take the child with them. It shows an extraordinary level of narcissism. He saw everything, including his own child, only in terms of how it affected him. He never stopped to think, 'If my father had wanted to kill himself when I was 3, would I have wanted him to kill me too'.
He was almost definitely a sociopath. He knew that there were others in the world, but, to him, we were like video games characters, no thoughts or feelings of our own, only existing in relation to him. He would be so disappointed to find out the world didn't end when he died.
It's no coincidence that he was a spammer, I would bet that most, if not all, spammers have anti-social personalities. - DJCamCam78, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3The wife had nothing to do with it. It sounds like the wife tried to grab the gun and he shot her, then the 16 year old, and then the 3 year old.

- spookyttws, on 07/25/2008, -0/+14And for less than 2 years in minimum security jail and an amount of money that seemed easy enough to pay off for a guy who raked in 3 million. Talk about being near sighted.
- kiwimonk, on 07/25/2008, -1/+5I'm pretty sure the idea is.. You want to end your life, and the only thing stopping you is the fact that your responsible for your family. So your not only deciding to take your own, but your family's as well..
- webweave, on 07/25/2008, -4/+1Family honor. If you loose your honor then you have tainted your whole family, that or he wanted to remove his dna from the gene pool. Either way I'm not crying for a spammer, too bad about the kid but that's what happens when dad is a spammer. I was just thinking that this could have been a murder by the Anti Spam League.
- DangerCollie, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3He got 21 months in minimum security. Camp Cupcake. That's like federal prison lite. A 1/3 less anal rapeage than regular federal prison. He didn't break out so much as walk away. Less than 2 years and he caps his whole family and kills himself? WTF? I mean really, wtf? Did they take away his American Express card? He might have gotten parole before the whole 21 months was up.

- firesphotons, on 07/25/2008, -3/+0Even this guy gets more sympathy than the woman who shot herself and he was a convicted felon...
(opens Wile Coyote paper cocktail umbrella in preparation for impending minus diggs)- josephbloseph, on 07/25/2008, -1/+0That is an excellent point; yesterday there was a discussion where everyone who didn't agree with the label "mentally unfit" was being dugg down, and today everyone is brimming with sympathy, or making sport over the spam factor, both of which seem much healthier responses.
- Pittance, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3More sympathy for his wife and child. A little bit for him. I mean, how depressed do you have to be to go suicidal over 21 months in jail? He probably had enough technical know-how and fame that some company would have hired him to do something legal.
- firesphotons, on 07/25/2008, -3/+0Even this guy gets more sympathy than the woman who shot herself and he was a convicted felon...
- drmobutu, on 07/25/2008, -26/+6It seems to me that we have raised the stakes too high in prosecuting spammers. Spam is a nuisance, sure, but the fine the guy had to pay, plus prison time, seems to me to be excessive, and may have pushed him over the edge...not that it is an excuse, of course.
Personally, I get more annoyed with all the regular junk mail that litters my mailbox, and telemarketers, than I do about spam...why doesn't the government crack down on that?- DCJoeDogaswell, on 07/25/2008, -2/+6because that actually cost the senders alot of money to send out, while spam in email is virtually free to send
- Spire3660, on 07/25/2008, -2/+3The cost to productivity that spam inflicts is a VERY tangible and large number. Not everything is as simple as you make it out. There is more to the total cost then bandwidth+server time. The sheer volume of spam forces companies to spend increasing sums of money to fight it off jsut so their employess can communicate in a somewhat reasonable and semi-safe fashion. This behavior should not be deemed as acceptable because the cost of spamming is negligible.
- staffa, on 07/25/2008, -1/+2Spire, learn to read.
Spam is free to send. That is all he said, he never made any claims about the costs it inflicts on the system. - tattertech, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3@Spire3660 I think you miss the point. The barriers to entry to electronic spam are extremely low, thus allowing just about anybody to do it and be profitable if even one person clicks out of millions of e-mails. This is why harsh legal penalties are needed to counteract it.
Physical mail is rather costly and resource intensive for someone to undertake, and it's much harder to be profitable. The market itself helps limit the amount of physical spam one can get. Additionally, it's much easier to track and hold people accountable for. - EntangledPhysx, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Dont know why Spire is being dugg down, but that is a legitimate case for many companies.
- staffa, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3He is being dugg down for the statement "Not everything is as simple as you make it out"
He is trying to pigeon hole the person he is responding to into a point of view they never made. The point Spire is trying to make it is not mutually exclusive with DCJoeDogaswell statement.
An analogy for you.
Person A says, 'Some birds can fly'
Person B replies, 'You are wrong, it is not as simple as you make it out, mammals can't fly"
While Person B is right, mammals can't fly, they still get buried for being a dumbass.
- staffa, on 07/25/2008, -1/+16He was fined 715k $ by the IRS because he didn't pay taxes on the 3.5 million he earned. That fine was very appropriate, its the same taxes we all pay.

And an ***** apparently, as well.- tman84, on 07/25/2008, -1/+18I just read the article and was thinking "21 months" "21 months in a minimum security white collar resort"? He decided to kill himself because he had deep seeded issues to begin with, most likely with control over himself and anything immediately around him....
The ultimate statement of control is ending your own life, taking matters into your own hands no matter what the consequences for anyone else are.. because all your problems will be solved at that moment
More like The ultimate douchbaggery imo
