Damn you misleading American media! - forthex, on 10/09/2008, -1/+57What's the point of >100mb speed internet if you can't look at porn?
- dvsbastard, on 10/09/2008, -1/+36As a keyboard warrior, I do not approve... Anonymity on the internet is what allows me to act like a big man... :(
- c0mputar, on 10/09/2008, -1/+36Just like when I used 90210 as my postal code, I will use Jack Bauer as my alias.
- jdog2050, on 10/09/2008, -2/+33I live in South Korea, so let me explain.
About 6 months ago, a TV program called PD Diary purposely mistranslated a segment about Mad Cow disease. That mistranslation got spread around the korean internet and riled up millions of Koreans (the station the broadcast the segment is virulently against Lee Myung Bak).
Korean "netizens" as they call themselves, really are horrible. It's like 4chan and Barren's Chat in WoW: juvenile, uninformed, and yet oddly powerful. Just this past week, a famous korean actress killed herself because of net-comments implicating her in someone else's death. Also, a gay actor killed himself and his blog was immediately flamed with tons of anti-gay comments.
More than any other country I've ever been too, net commentators have a huge impact on *daily life* in Korea.
However, if Lee Myung-Bak thinks that this is the answer, he will indeed be destroyed.
Also, as to the "manners" classes they've proposed...absolutely stupid. The entire issue with Korea netizens is that you have a country of repressed overworked people who have to cow-tow and watch their behavior all day. - Chompy, on 10/09/2008, -0/+30Old people who don't understand the internet try to regulate it, news at 11.
- aznpwnzor, on 10/09/2008, -1/+30now i'll know who's owning me in starcraft
- truspect0r, on 10/09/2008, -0/+28Ok what's your name and address because I'm scared that you might be a terrorist.
- rukeypoo, on 10/09/2008, -0/+26so 16/f/FL won't work anymore?
- Chompy, on 10/09/2008, -0/+26See, there was this war..
- beemer325, on 10/08/2008, -1/+23I wonder if other countries will adopt a similar policy?
- cdigioia, on 10/09/2008, -2/+21***** U U ***** PUSSY ***** COWARD!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll BEAT UR ASS!!!
! - Azerael, on 10/09/2008, -0/+17It also means that the online douchebags can find you.
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -3/+19Millions of Koreans share the same name anyway.
- hectord27, on 10/09/2008, -2/+16how do you say "goodbye 4chan" in Korean?
- homesickalien, on 10/08/2008, -2/+16The article isn't too specific about the type of rude behaviour that is upsetting their government. If they want to see "rude" they should look at some of the racist comments on Youtube vids.
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -2/+15Terrible news!
- collution, on 10/09/2008, -0/+13I can see the identity theft cases piling up already.
- Sendai129, on 10/09/2008, -0/+13The only way this would have any chance of working is if every country agreed to it...but then there's the matter of enforcing every...single...website... And if even one country didn't enforce this bill everything would be undone. A simple proxy and voila, you're anonymous again and off flaming and swearing in no time.
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -2/+15***** puh-leeze.
- Azerael, on 10/09/2008, -1/+13You honestly think terrorists are going to be following these laws? Do you honestly expect terrorists to follow ANY laws? These kinds of laws just inconvenience those of us not constantly plotting the imminent demise of western civilisation. Besides being just another pointless, unjustified invasion of our privacy, having to use our real names online also makes identity theft/stalking etc. several orders of magnitude easier.
- jeffsback2223, on 10/09/2008, -1/+13The US tried that one already, and it was kicked to the curb. Even the one who presented the bill thought it was a waste of time to attempt to outlaw anonymity, so I doubt we'll try it again.
- Sendai129, on 10/09/2008, -0/+12CREED SUCKS! I HATE YOU! AND I HATE THE BAND YOU LIKE!!!
- CptGreencoat, on 10/09/2008, -0/+11*GULP*
- Jonmad17, on 10/09/2008, -3/+13I know it was a joke but some people don't know the difference between North and South Korea. South Korea is a republic. North Korea is a slave-state. You should read this article written by Christopher Hitchens

Just because American passed stupid laws such as the Patriot Act doesn't make us a dictatorship. South Korea passed a stupid law, that is all. They should not be compared with North Korea. - charliecharlos, on 10/09/2008, -1/+11You want to say that to my face?!?!? That's right, didn't think so. Because me and my boys here would ***** YOU UP!!!
JERSEY REPRESENT!!! - Drahkar, on 10/09/2008, -0/+10The logistics of it are impossible with the way the Internet is currently designed. The cost and overhead to implement would be staggering.
- JCPahl, on 10/09/2008, -2/+11Ohmigod racism? Are you serious?
- paulishuku, on 10/09/2008, -0/+8Oliver_Clothesoff.
- Awspire, on 10/09/2008, -0/+8Those were girls?
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -0/+8Are you guys from YouTube?
- CptGreencoat, on 10/09/2008, -3/+10That ***** is whack.
Even with masks covering half their faces, Asian girls are still hot. - collution, on 10/09/2008, -0/+7This is coming from a guy named "fragileKnight."
- Brododium, on 10/09/2008, -0/+7*touché
Unless you mean tusche: a black liquid used for drawing in lithography. - Awspire, on 10/09/2008, -2/+9So rude! I love it.
- Azerael, on 10/09/2008, -4/+11If these laws get in place...
Step 1: Anon gets your real name.
Step 2: Anon knows everything about you.
Step 3: ?????
Step 4: Give up at life, because they wont let you live it. - Sendai129, on 10/09/2008, -0/+7작별 4chan
-Courtesy of Google Translate - inactive, on 10/09/2008, -0/+7Yes - The major flaw of these types of laws is that it seriously ***** up the REALLY important parts of anonymity online.
- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7he can't speak of them, they're unspeakable
- RedRummy, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7It'll never work... you can't control the internet. The only people who think you can, are politicians...
- JCPahl, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7Are you sure you want to risk pissing off Jack Bauer, though?
- SissySlapParty, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7"See, there was this war.."
... Yes??
AND???
You can't just leave us lying in suspense like that. - Cherubim, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6Sound just like Digg.
- gubbie, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6Would this have anything to do with the Korean model who was harassed by online "fans" for being gay and committed suicide?
- Tbyrd073, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6Sounds like they need to stop looking to 4chan for advice if they are committing suicide.
- NomortaL1, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6what kind of unspeakable acts do you speak of?
- cpsutcliffe, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5Yeah, that really narrowed it down.
- daengbo, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5I live in S. Korea and have for about four years. This is just an attempt at censorship, not curtailing libel. Libel doesn't matter. The regular media gets away with it all the time.
The tone of the interviewees says it all: they want to control behavior, not content.
Long live freedom!!!
Oh, and
@DeathfireD -- Suicides aren't caused by rude behavior on chat boards. They are caused because mentally ill people tie ropes around their necks, jump off buildings, or take pills. - wexmajor, on 10/09/2008, -1/+6No, they passed a fascist law. They should be compared with North Korea. You people are WAY too soft on this *****. It should not be acceptable.
- gbhall, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5You laugh, but I doubt that will be the case if this suddenly happens in your country...
