as soon as you no longer support them or their bloated distribution system. i can say i don't have one single rootkitting cd - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Too bad the hords of "sheep" will still buy Sony products.. including the PS3.
They can get away with murder, and no one cares. Too bad. - uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These guys just don't get it. Down with Sony!
- kyote, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2'I'm happy with my Sony digital camera and my PS2. Neither one has burned down my house nor eaten my children yet.'
Key word in this sentence boys and girls? "yet" - ajz8182, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fools! those of you who buy Sony computers or music ever again.
Can you imagine the spy software that comes with a Sony computer???? hfc. - sharedferret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually was at a Best Buy store today and saw them still selling the rootkit CDs, so I called someone over and told them about it, and he took them off the shelves.
- kualla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doesn't Sony realize they messed up and need to correct their actions COMPLETLY? Hmm... maybe someoen should setup a kiosk right outside Sony's store that offers free software that can take advantage of sonys rootkit and then secretly run a DOS attack against Sony. Now that would be a good way to show Sony why their rootkits can be very evil. Sony, I hope karma comes around and nips you in the butt!!!
- dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually get a lot of satisfaction out of illegally downloading music now.
- metacoola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RABBLE SPAM RABBLE.....
now that I have your attention...
I just don't like how people complain about this and still buy ps2's...how bout those nice people who have never let you down with their hardware...Nintendo cares....others don't :^( - clevershark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you buy a Sony CD today, you're just an idiot.
- crawdad62, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can't possibly blame Sony. Well you can and should but there's millions of potential customers out there that don't know a rootkit from rootbeer. I'm sure it wouldn't matter though. If they did have to pull all those discs out of circulation it wouldn't cost them anything. They'd just pass it on to the consumer anyway.
It's either Sony doesn't get it either or they just don't care. My vote is for the latter. - peterlisanti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm the guy who reported this to Consumerist.com
I asked the manager if he heard of the recall and he said yes. I then asked him why there were still XCP CDs on the shelf. He looked at me and said, "They were recalled, but we are still allowed to sell them."
I asked, "Is that the official word from Sony?", and he replied yes.
When I got home I emailed Sony about this through their web-form asking if the Sony Style stores were exempt from the recall
Sony's response:
"Thank you for contacting Sony BMG Online.
Sony BMG has asked ALL retailers to return these CDs, this includes the SonyStyle division stores. No retailer was exempt from the XCP recall request.
Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance.
The Sony BMG Online Support Team
CC2X
John"
I was in the store again today and confirmed that there were at least 3 CDs from the XCP list on the shelves. I tried to pull up the article from Consumerist.com on the Vaios there, but no computer had a net connection.
I wonder if the flagship Sony store in Manhattan still has them on the shelves? - Laughingman234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm gonna buy one just so I can get that root-kit if I ever need it :)
- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1CD's are for noobs. Download is the new *****, no matter legal or ilegal.
- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@crawdad62
I'm betting Sony BMG is playing the "ignore it or stall long enough for the negative
reaction to blow over, then go back to business as usual".
If that is the case, then instead of telling the stores that they should be taking
the CDs off the shelf, we should be recording all the locations where you still
can find those CDs and forwarding that information to your local attorney generals
office (especially if you are in one of the states already suing over this).
We could start with this thread:
@sharedferret,
Which Best Buy location was that, and do you recall which CDs you saw?
I may have time to stop by the BB here on my way to work tomorrow.
So I'll keep my eyes peeled.
- roostishaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^
Same here. If they want my buisness, they need to convince me to buy from them. I don't consider infecting my computer a great selling point. - linkdead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am making an effort to not buy any Sony products, and because of this, I am seeing just how HUGE that company is! I am telling my less informed friends to focus on thier media, put a dent in that branch and maybe they will listen.
- F00b4r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That ***** is disturbing. Looks like automated registration is alive and well.
- colddog15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0when a company has little or no respect for the customer then it time to move on. If you work hard for your money then you should spent is wisely on products that respect your home and property.
- Smokezz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not really a surprise.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't buy CDs, so I don't care! ^_^
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you want this to stop, stop buying Sony CDs.

- HiddenS3crets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0unbelievable
- geeke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I seen a sony mp3 player it looked good but ***** after what they did with the rootkits I said ***** sony and went with a sandisk mp3 player and love it :)
- pwallroth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im still getting a PS3 because I like to live dangerously.
- louisianna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know some of these cd's were reissued without the rootkit on there. Also, there are many divisions of sony - some of them are VERY seperate from the others.
- idesign562, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0makes Gateway look good.
- Wardvark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I went into a sony store a few weeks ago and asked for if they sold root-kits, the guy actually told me to they might, he was of course mistaken and went to find a roots car kit, but funny all the same.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Will this ever end?
- anthonyretro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've seen CDs sold, specifically the new Chris Botti album, mere weeks after the recall. It's like no one took it seriously. Now, I'm not boycotting Sony because I like their other quality products. I still want a PS3. I like my studio headphones. But I'm not going to buy their CDs.
For the people who say to download stuff, you have to realize, when you're a jazz lover, it's hard to find stuff to download. I've wanted the new Joe Sample album since it came out, but where can you download it? Who knows who Joe Sample is? Where can I get the new Chris Botti without a rootkit? I could buy it off iTunes. But that goes against the "boycott." Buy responsibly, make a class action suit. We don't need to boycott. We just need to know how to fight effectively. - MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hello? Can anyone out there, thats NOT in somebody's pocket put Sony in check? Christ!

- maloney_633, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I was going to buy sony head phones today but insted I got the JVC head phones and they are cheeper and sound better.
- Refrag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Stop buying Sony anything. I was thinking about getting a PS3. But not after the root-kit salvo fired at their customers.
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Just don't buy Sony-BMG published CD's, you idiots.
I'm happy with my Sony digital camera and my PS2. Neither one has burned down my house nor eaten my children yet. - rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Just don't buy anything Sony. Yes they are separate divisions of the same company, but when one division has financial problems the others prop it up until they ride out the storm. If we don't bring the storm to all their ports all we are doing is wasting bandwidth. ***** Sony. If you really have to have a Sony product find another way to get it such as trade, barter or other means. If you give them a penny they will find a way to ***** you out of a dollar.
Don't Buy Sony. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They just sent me a poster telling me what cds to get funny *****!!!
- silentauthority, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Boycott Sony. Pisses me off. Go iTMS
